Just invented a new saying and I quite like it

Very random, but Just got in from work, hungry & bothered. Something annoyed me, so I said to myself, "oh shit off" and I must admit I quite like it, I will be using it in the future.
What are your new words/sayings you've invented & taken a liking to?

But what does it mean?

Means “totally”

Also say “fail snail” for a minor inconvenience
“fail quail” for something bigger and
“fail whale” for a disaster

stayathomer · 19/07/2025 09:35

Ha! You’re claiming this one? Don’t think so
imagine if it were actually the person who came up with it, I feel like going down an mn rabbit hole but haven’t time this morning.,,

My late mum would never swear but would was a huge Jilly Cooper fan. She punched the phrase ‘flock off’ from one of her RCB books. It was the something to do with an Archbishop as in ‘oh tell him to flock off!’

Totes ma goats

I like this one but it's not new and is actually explained on dictionary.com!

OldWomanInACardigan · 19/07/2025 09:42

My late MIL used to say "Muck off".

I know someone who says "Piss yer bollocks off"

Davros · 19/07/2025 09:43

DD invented the word “discussment”, cross between discussion and argument

rainbowstardrops · 19/07/2025 09:43

I didn’t make this one up but I was on a thread the other day talking about posters with hairy hands aka trolls and a poster described some people as whackaloons! Really made me chuckle!!!

EveryKneeShallBow · 19/07/2025 09:46

My son once told me off for putting a kids play tattoo on “all skiddiways”.

UrbanOasis · 19/07/2025 09:49

We sometimes call fried eggs flat eggs because that's what our DS once called them as a small child. So not boiled or scrambled, but flat!

DH and I have lots of silly phrases. One that comes to mind (because I had some yesterday) is that we call cottage cheese 'fromage cottage'(to rhyme).

Edited

We call it that too! Thought it was just us! Yet here we are, cottaging with you... 😄

In our house they are called splat eggs.

Youngest ds (aged 7 at the time), when a friend of mine asked him if he was looking forward to something (he wasn’t), searched for a diplomatic response and came up with “Well, you can’t always hope for the best”!
It’s become something of a family motto over the years!

My son once told me off for putting a kids play tattoo on “all skiddiways”.

That reminds me of my grandma using “all backsyforwards” for back to front.

Katkins17 · 19/07/2025 10:04

Calling my hubby a ‘stink hound’ for no reason, other than he annoyed me…. The fact we both found it so funny and random, broke the tension and annoyance was forgotten!!!

BlueandPinkSwan · 19/07/2025 10:09

Grubsy Muncklechops, h calls me this when I eat toast or crusty bread. No matter how I try the crumbs go everywhere when cutting or tearing the stuff.😳

Even better

ssd · 19/07/2025 10:15

If someone is annoying you in Glasgow they are a pestafuck

Noshadelamp · 19/07/2025 14:07

Tomato ketchup is called Jamie t in our house after I accidentally got it mixed up with Tommy k!

YelramBob · 19/07/2025 14:12

'Fungry' or 'fungrover' for when you're so fucking hungover you could eat a scabby dog 😂

MsInterpret · 19/07/2025 14:20

Appreciating Shit Off 👍

Gary Barlow is forever "Graymond Wilson" after DD got mixed up with an author.

"deeks" for decaf tea

Tried to make a colleague's "shatknackered" work but it's a birrova mouthful when you're tired anyway.

Caught myself saying that I was 'Starved to a crisp' when i was very hungry recently (my brain having merged 'starved' with 'burnt to a crisp).

I like it and want to use it in future.

I also made an effort to get 'J-Po' to catch on in my household as a term for jacket potato, but everyone' rolled their eyes and I gave up.

Everything about this I just love! I love eating J Po's as well

Oh I love J-Po, stealing that. My friend used to say chez bez tez for cheese and beans on toast.
Chez Bez J-Po is nice too.

MissyPants · 19/07/2025 15:10

I also used to call my partner "fungus balls" when he had jock itch once and wasn't taking it seriously
