Ideas For Small Fundraisers At A Charity Event

A friend is organising a fundraiser for a local charity. It is an evening event, adults only and will be an entertainment act eg tribute band/comedian type thing. She is looking for ideas, apart from a raffle, that can be used to raise a little extra during the event. The only thing I can come up with is Top & Tails, where people pay a pound and then choose either heads or tails in a coin toss and get eliminated, with the eventual winner taking half the entry fees. Does anyone have any other simple suggestions for similar things, which don't require a lot of money to arrange/organise and can be done easily on the night?
Tia.

I recently asked for ideas for things that sell well at craft fayres-- these are ideas of things to buy and sell, rather than activities to do, but you may find some of the ideas useful. A few people mentioned lucky dips and food items.

If someone would bake a cake you could do guess it's weight. Name a Teddy. Put 100 names on a 10 x 10 grid and people pay £1 to pick one of the names on the grid. They wrote their name next to Teddy name. At the end put all 100 names in hat and pull one a name. Winner gets the teddy bear.

The quickest and easiest fundraiser at an event I did was pass a bucket round for loose change. Have it announced that it's coming round. Assuming people will have cash with them it's a matter of choosing your time, you need people well refreshed and relaxed but not spent up.

Tombola or lucky dip. If you phone around shops / businesses quite often they have items to donate.

Are you doing any food? I was brought up in Lancashire and a 'pie and pea supper' is virtually compulsory.

If you are doing food then you can charge for an entry ticket that includes the food. Depending where you are if there is a sweet centre you can get samosas fairly cheap and sell for £1 each. The last time I bought some they were 25p each to buy.

Is the place licenced? Many years ago I went to church fate that had a stall set up by the local home brew group. They were not allowed to sell alcohol but you could give them a donation and they gave you a 'free sample'.

Something in a jar, usually some form of sweets (or a mixture) people pay 50p or £1 to guess the number of sweets in the jar, the closest one to the actual number wins the jar and contents. Count them before the evening or buy one that is pre counted.

You could do different jars, sweets, pickled onions, golf balls, nuts... you get the idea.

Art exhibition? If you have a local artist or an art school let the artist / students display their art and if it sells you take a cut.

Thanks everyone for all your ideas, which I will pass on to my friend. As far as I know, the event is being held in a hotel so there will be a licensed bar and a ploughmans supper is included in the ticket price. Any more ideas gratefully received!
