I'd appreciate ideas for things that sell well at craft fayres. Things you are interested in buying, ideas for price points etc.

This one is for fundraising for a group I support, it'll probably mainly be adults and families attending the weekend fayre. I imagine items selling for <£5 will do well.

I can knit, crochet and sew. I've done wedding calligraphy in the past and I've a couple of months to prepare.

Ideas, pictures and links to Pinterest pages etc are all welcome.
💕 Thanks in advance 💕

Wrapped lucky dip crochet items.

I like unusual things that I can gift up to £20. Things that are very well made and made using nice materials.

I’ve bought Christmas tree decorations that were personalised while we waited.

I also like functional things, sets of coasters, foldable shopping bags, nice makeup bags

IMissSparkling · 15/07/2025 21:13

I'd maybe buy a cake. I wouldn't buy anything handmade as I think it's all just tat that ends up gathering dust. Sorry.

caringcarer · 15/07/2025 21:15

Lucky dips for kids always sell out. Buy felt pens, colouring books, stampers etc for about £2.50 each sell for £5.

seedlings and other plants do well, nicely boxed and packaged homemade/grown goods - jam, apple sauce, fruit, eggs , baked items like brownies always sell for me.

ninjahamster · 15/07/2025 21:24

Is it a Xmas one as reindeer food always goes down well?!

I quite like jewellery, candles.

SeaGreenSeaGlass · 15/07/2025 21:28

Thanks everyone.

I think it'll take place early in September. @ninjahamster do you think this is too early for Christmas-themed ideas?

You could knit hats for babies and kids - in a nice yarn you could charge more than £5.

Crochet key rings are great - double as Christmas tree decorations. Say £3 to £5

You could do some cards with your calligraphy - you could have a few Happy Birthday ones maybe, leaving room for you to write the name in on the day. Maybe £3?

You are very talented!

Anything well-made and sensibly priced will sell, honestly.

I remember girls going mad for hair scrunchies one summer school fete. A woman had made them from scraps of cotton from her dressmaking. Each one unique.

September means you can do Halloween and autumn stuff. Pumpkin decorations, gorgeous door wreaths made of crochet leaves and things. Crochet tiny ghosts, they could be in different positions or holding things to make them fun and interesting (York ghost shop inspired!). You could sew Halloween trick or treat baskets.

make pumpkin spice fudge?

ninjahamster · 15/07/2025 21:37

Slightly early for Xmas I think.

My daughter made gorgeous Halloween garlands one year so that’s an option.

JDM625 · 15/07/2025 21:38

I didn't sell them, but did some little crochet hairclips for my god daughters similar to the pic. Fairly quick to make and could easily be less than £5 for a pair. Could also be tweaked to be a Christmas or Halloween theme.

A work colleague has a side line doing weekend markets. Over the years, she went through various phases and things. From new born baby 'cakes' (made from nappies) to Christmas baubles and keyrings. He most popular items were hand made candles. She converted her garage to make them! She didn't use cheap wax which can have toxins and used natural fragrances. I'm not sure how popular candles are for a one off purchase, as don't use them myself.

Bespoke baubles given your calligraphy experience might be an option?

What about some DIY crayons- different names, or a load of different letters of the alphabet- sell individually/ make up names as you go
Some small craft kits- ceramic or wooden type ornaments with small paint pots
Bird food mixes
Some little make up bags- can use for cables etc
Pencil cases- with some nice pens in them
Crochet worry worms, pumpkins, small wreaths
Bluey and bingo or the like
Sew- Hair scrunchies, aprons, make up bags, small zipped pouches, head bands
Calligraphy- could do some prints- or even examples of names etc- and could make to order

Rina66 · 15/07/2025 22:02

I like the crochet animal bookmarks, fold up tote bags for handbag (people will use these too on the day, you can sell a bag as an add on!), adult Christmas bibs, cards, little candles for the downstairs loo, kids Christmas stocking fillers….

I’d buy Christmas decorations or key rings but the idea that leaped out at me was the hats. I’d love to buy home knitted hats IF you could make them and sell them at a decent price. I would pay a good price but for a fayre/ fair where people don’t take as much money (although get a card machine and you’ll smash it !) the price would be key. But I’d happily buy 4 as gifts. In fact if you tale commissions I’d love one making !!

JDM625 · 16/07/2025 22:39

To add to an earlier post. Hats, scarves and other wearable items needs to be made very well to sell and the time to make likely wouldn't be re-couped when selling. Unless my MIL comes to your fayre- she'll buy anything!

One year she bought be a matching scarf/beanie set from a market. Lovely thought, but it was a very chunky, amateurish pattern in purple and white stripes. It looked like something a child/teen had made to wear to their local football match. I also don't wear purple. Funnily, MIL's favourite colour is purple!

NewbieYou · 16/07/2025 22:43

Mostly the only things I’d buy are -

candles bc I prefer small makers especially if they’re in like Victorian jam jars or something.

Carved wood items - wooden spoons, pot rests, gorgeous fruit bowls etc. because I will use them, wood lasts and I love that they’re shaped from timber to use by a human.

Jewellery - if it’s very very pretty. But only if sterling silver or gold.

Edibles - jam, cakes, preserves, hot sauce, coffee blends. I can excuse paying for it because I’ll eat it.

Lampshades - I really like lampshades especially velvet, embroidered or glass.

Hand embroidered items - cushions etc. but not if too expensive which often makes this unviable as embroidery takes so long.

Wreaths for Halloween/Christmas. Buy cheap wicker rings, spray silver or white, crochet or knit leaves/pumpkins, glue them on and add bead "berries". Hang a ribbon on with a nice bow. Cheap to make and once you've made the leaves, you can put lots together quickly. Make each slightly different. You can sell for at least £10 each.
