‘Wraparound care’ gets on my very last nerve, and I’m not entirely sure why.

‘Sink estate’ irritates me, too.
Why sinks? Everywhere has a bloody sink.
Does it come from simply not wanting to say ‘council estate’ - ie shithole?

I’m council house born and bred, by the way.

Yep, I'd never even come across the term "Wraparound care" before MN.

I don't know why the term "Sink" was coined, but it's supposed to refer to deprivation, so not all council estates are "sink estates", just the ones in the poorest areas with high crime rates and no government investment (and there's probably a connection there!).

Lessons will/must be learned. They usually never are.

We take (insert complaint of choice) very seriously…blah blah

Closely related to "Mistakes were made." When an organisation is doing its upmost to avoid admitting responsibility.

“That is all”
”just saying”

and I know it’s probably very polite, but people who ask “ please may I be considered?” on facebook marketplace giveaway posts

Just saying is even worse when the put an apostrophe - Just sayin'

shewasasaint · 15/07/2025 16:54

Posts where the poster has written a perfectly clear explanation then adds 'If that makes sense'.

"“Picky bits” : the crusty contents of a child’s nasal cavities". Oh God, no, please tell me that's not true - I thought it referred to a finger buffet! 😬(Although given your explanation, maybe it does ...😂 )

I once saw one called "Pandora's Box". Someone clearly didn't know their Greek mythology.

Or maybe they did….

we have 3 boys… reply… “oh you must have your hands full” or “are you going to try for a girl next time”!!! Stfu it gets old!!

Yes.
When you have all girls, you get comments like "Oh your poor husband!" And "You'll have to have a boy for him..."

What?!
Whose reproductive organs do you think decided whether it was a girl or boy in the first place you twat!

Feck off Margaret.

From the newspaper world I hate “A Sweet Nod”

As in:- the Princess of Wales is pictured wearing a dress that very vaguely resembles one worn by Diana in 1985. So, according to the paper, she's deliberately chosen the dress as A Sweet Nod to her late mother-in-law.

"this sweet snap" to describe any celebrity family photo.

"[celebrity name] led the tributes to". How are they "leading the tributes" exactly? It's normally a family member or close friend who posts the first tribute, not a Hollywood actor who worked with the deceased back in 2006.

Don't get me started on the "secret" or "hidden gem" holiday destinations that are actually very busy in summer, or the "genius hacks" that turn out to be taking extra food from the hotel buffet or something...

😁 Every time someone says it that’s what I think of. If you’re having a buffet just say that! And dont get me started on “Picky Tea”…

When politicians start with ‘Let me be clear…’
Can’t you invent a new phrase? Say something original? They all bloody use it, all the time.

‘Educate yourself!’ (Go Fuck Yourseif)

Journey
Survivor

^^ when used with regards to cancer. And believe me, I had cancer and did not beat it, I was fortunate to go into remission. At no point was it a battle, nor was I on a journey.

Nope! South Yorkshire! I can guarantee I will hear it or say it myself at least 10 times a day even though I’m aware it’s ridiculous!

Well that's interesting. So people are spinning on the spot whilst holding conversations nationwide! 😂

Oh, and “famous woman x puts on a busty/leggy display” - STFU daily mail

Also from the Daily Fail - “she completed her outfit with …”
Completed even if it was just a dress. That’s not an outfit imo😂

Yes, or the modern equivalent "It's just bantz" (which I absolutely hate! 😡 )
