Just that. Really fancy some but it’s three days out of date. Pack is unopened

Yes.

Civilservant · 12/07/2025 11:59

Yes! If refrigerated soon after purchase and sealed.

muddyford · 12/07/2025 15:32

I go by the maxim of if it's not 3 weeks out of date, sealed and looks and smells fine I'll use it. It's crammed full of preservatives.
If it's in date and smells, I won't use it.

Pretty much this.

I can't believe how many of you wouldn't open it and check.

If food is off you can tell. That is what your sense of smell is for, and what you can see. Something like bacon is pretty processed and is sealed in an air tight packet. I wouldn't bat an eyelid over a few days.

The official advice is that the use by date is a deadline and food should not be eaten after this date even if it smells and looks ok.

I would bin it.

HelpMeGetThrough · 12/07/2025 17:38

Yep, no problem.

I cooked chicken yesterday that had a use by date of 8th. Smelt fine, looked fine and it tasted fine.

Both of us absolutely fine today.

Oh yes let’s all follow official advice instead of using our own senses, common sense, and judgement.

AgnesX · 12/07/2025 17:56

Yep, it's only 3 days. If it's been in the fridge that is!

I would, and have… a lot of times 😂

Me too.

Sally2791 · 12/07/2025 18:05

Unopened, yes

It’s not common sense or good judgment to think you can tell if food is safe by sight and smell. You can’t.

What’s funny about that?

Squishymallows · 12/07/2025 21:05

Yes unless it smelt bad

Nope not worth it nip to a local shop and get some or get it delivered

Yes. Food doesnt turn bad overnight. Bacon has a few weeks' in date - I can't believe they can predict the point at which it goes off with any accuracy. I would eat it

FinallyHere · 13/07/2025 07:34

Is look at it and smell it before deciding.

BCBird · 13/07/2025 07:48

Nope
