Just that. Really fancy some but it’s three days out of date. Pack is unopened

If it looks & smells like something you want to eat then yes.

MichelleCancelled · 12/07/2025 09:45

Unless it was green, yes

Unopened pack, kept in fridge, if it smells OK on opening, yes. Once opened eat it all quickly.
If you can't manage it I'll come round for bacon and eggs and fried bread and... 😋

This - if it smells and looks ok, and no one elderly, very young or infirm will be eating it. I would cook up the whole pack today.

I once ate bacon that was over a month out of date, it looked and smelt fine, so I'm sure 3 days over won't harm you. It's a processed food with added nitrate which is a preservative.

MigGril · 12/07/2025 09:46

Yes I would as long as it smells OK. Your going to cook it anyway so as long as you cook it properly it should be fine.

I maybe wouldn't feed it to anyone with health issues just to be on the safe side but it's absolutely fine for you to eat.

CinnamonBuns67 · 12/07/2025 09:35

Absolutely not. It's got a use by for a reason, it's not a best before date.

It's still just an estimate. The bacon doesn't know what date it is!

ohtowinthelottery · 12/07/2025 09:47

I would, but then I grew up buying bacon by the slice at the corner shop so it didn't have use by dates on.

Cyanometer · 12/07/2025 09:48

God no.

Likelihood of something going wrong (probably not that high) multiplied by the impact of it going wrong (high, food poisoning wouldn't be any fun) = absolutely not worth the risk.

anotherwordforit · 12/07/2025 09:49

Yes

330ml · 12/07/2025 09:50

As long as it has been kept in the fridge, yes.

DongDingBell · 12/07/2025 09:51

I'd look at it, and if it looks OK, I'd open the packet and smell it. I'd that's OK, I'd cook it all.

Nope not worth it nip to a local shop and get some or get it delivered

I did this

As it’s unopened I would look at it and smell it. If it smells and looks fine I’d use it. I’d probably extra cook it. I wouldn’t for chicken though, that would go in the bin. I’d be annoyed at myself for potentially wasting food (which I have done too many times).

TappyGilmore · 12/07/2025 09:58

Definitely. Unopened and been in fridge the whole time, there won’t be anything wrong with it.

BunnyLake · 12/07/2025 09:58

I would, but then I grew up buying bacon by the slice at the corner shop so it didn't have use by dates on.

Was going to say this. Growing up my mum would have relied on look and smell, no use by dates then.

Nevertrustacop · 12/07/2025 09:58

Yes of course.

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 12/07/2025 10:00

Yes without question, bacon has a long expiry date.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 12/07/2025 10:01

Wouldn't worry me in the slightest as long as it looks and smells ok.

yonem · 12/07/2025 10:03

onlyconnect · 12/07/2025 09:53

I did this

Did you even open it to smell?

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 12/07/2025 10:04

Unopened and in the fridge? Of course! What a waste not to use it.

notnorman · 12/07/2025 10:05

Yes bacon lasts ages it’s salted. Think about back in the day when there were no fridges

bengalcat · 12/07/2025 10:06

If it smelt ok yes - I age smoked salmon use by 7/7 last night - gut ok and am obvs still alive

WaitedBlankey · 12/07/2025 10:08

Bacon is preserved - as long as it passes the sniff test it’s fine.

KatieDidIt · 12/07/2025 10:12

i had some unopened dated end of may. Had it in sandwiches last Sunday. We are fine!
