What would Reform be without the boat crossings

The media would have to do the job they are paid for.

It's like steak without kidney. Peaches without cream. Sonny without Cher. (That's enough poetic pairings - Ed.)

SerendipityJane · 13/07/2025 17:01

Why ?

We vote for a person, not a party. MPs are representatives, not delegates.

They are representative of their party too. People don’t vote for a person, they don’t know the person. They vote for the policies of the party they represent.

Not all circles can be squared.

I don’t think this square was ever a circle. We vote for a person as a representative of a party.

SerendipityJane · 13/07/2025 17:53

Well they are still representing their constituency.

The situation if you make a booking or purchase from some private company is the same. Usually, even if the company gets taken over, you don't get to cancel your order/booking. Which for a lot of ex-pat "energy suppliers" is probably a good thing. I mean just because I would never have signed with Octopus in a zillion years shouldn't impinge on their corporate rights to slowly fuck me over.

Repeatedly.

Getting the representation you voted for in Parliament isn’t remotely the same as a commercial transaction.

I think a by election should be automatic if an MP resigns or is kicked out of their party.

I agree, most, not all, thats too big a generalisation, vote for a party, if that MP then changes allegiance, then that should trigger a by-election.

It's like buying a Ford Focus and then, a few months later, waking up to a Kia Ceed on the drive...

PickAChew · 13/07/2025 19:41

And if voters really did vote for their MP as a person, they would keep their seat.

As Corbyn did.

Well exactly.

Trump's state visit confirmed for 17-19 Sept, will be centred around Windsor and he is unlikely to address Parliament.

Eatinpeachesonthebeaches · 14/07/2025 08:54

That seems a sensible approach to the Trump problem.

Notonthestairs · 14/07/2025 08:54

Presumably all the r/w commentary that complained vociferously about Macrons visit will now be incensed by negative commentary regarding Trump’s.

He won't be able to see the football team he has a new-found love for, Chelsea. I checked their fixtures and they are away thrashing Manchester United. Though I was surprised when seeing the trophy presentation that John Terry was not there with the players.

As pointed out on the Trump thread, Parliament is in conference recess during the 🍊visit. Clever

Yes it's a nice neat solution

I wouldn't expect a large turnout if he did.

BIossomtoes · 14/07/2025 11:08

I kind of like the idea of him declaiming to an empty chamber.

DuncinToffee · 14/07/2025 11:08

An audience of 4? Nige wants to recall parliament 😅

I thought it was 5. They're all so busy doing the hokey cokey and sometimes pokey that I lose track.

I don't know either

There's obviously

Farage
Tice
Anderson
Pochin

plus/minus a chief/only whip??

ilovesooty · 14/07/2025 14:01

Lee Anderson is the Chief Whip I believe.

Those are the current 4 MPs, McMurdock is the one who resigned the whip pending a Covid fraud investigation.
