What do teachers actually like to receive??

like many, I get my children’s teacher and TA a small gift at the end of the school year.

every year I struggle to know what to get - I want to gift something that they would actually get use out of, not waste my money and provide inconvenient clutter for them.

both teachers are male.

is alcohol appropriate?!

if any teachers on here could give some input I’d really appreciate it.

A card means the world to us and is definitely enough.
If you really want to give a gift, I am always so very grateful for something edible or flowers. Basically - something that doesn’t last forever! Mugs and keepsakes etc I find difficult as I feel awful getting rid of anything but the house becomes overrun!
I know people will be along to say they wouldn’t want chocolates as don’t eat them, wouldn’t want flowers as they are going away etc. But I always just think consumables are the best option, very easy to pass onto someone else too if you really can’t have the gift! It’s the thought that counts.

I now give Cook vouchers to main teachers/teaching assistants, and just-eat and deliver ooh vouchers to assistants and other staff with less interaction with my DC. I hope that frees one or 2 cooking nights for them. Last year I added hobby related accessories (think mallets, capodastre, rosin, guitar picks type thing) that one of them can use. I hope that wasn't considered tat as they were really good quality ones and this teacher absolutely loves her musical instrument. Am wondering whether they just think wh oh why

My kids also made cards saying thank you and one included a personalised ceramic heart (am sorry Miss T if that's just more clutter).

The handwritten note is probably the most amazing thing you could do, and teachers really do keep them (source: two of my friends are teachers). If you absolutely want to give something, stick to something like tea/coffee or practical items like stationery. Could be something personalized, like a calendar with photos of the whole class. I would advise against alhocol because you could never know for sure if what you pick fits their taste.

Nothing. A card is lovely. Really just that.

Please only buy alcohol if you know it will be well received. I have 7 colleagues who are teetotal and for 4 of them, alcohol is either upsetting or bordering on difficult. Yes they're adults and they smile and say all the right things but if your aim is to show gratitude and not remind them of something difficult, alcohol is to be avoided.

I agree with a card, note or email but the best gift I ever received apart from cards is a spider plant the pupil grew from a cutting. I still have it on my desk.

The nicest things I've had have been handwritten letters from parents-really personal and lovely-I still have them. They take up no room at all.

A handwritten card is not the same-I can't keep 30 cards saying To Mrs x, thank you, love from x, every year-keeping 900 cards would be impossible.

What I'd rather parents didn't waste their money on was keyrings, mugs, placards, bags or cups saying 'teacher'. I know I'm a teacher, I don't really want to advertise it!

Otherwise...dry white wine is nice!

Alcohol (if they drink it)
chocolates

or club together as a class and buy something like a voucher for 2 to have a meal locally

Vouchers

Definitely not a one-4-all gift card. Read the thread on here to see how hard they are to spend, and how they expire (or they start taking a fee before they expire). A load of ÂŁ10 gift cards are so hard to spend.

I work in a nursery and would love gift cards
