Has anyone not had their blue badge renewed this year?

I've had one for 16 years, not sure how I'm going to mange with out it! Do they think my mobility has suddenly got better FFS?

Anyone else? Have they changed the criteria? They didn't even offer an assessment ( which I've had in the past and they agreed I needed one)

God,I'm so upset. It says I can appeal within 28 days which I will do.

Did they write to your GP? Without the qualifying mobility part, our council asks for GP confirmation and/or an assessment by OT at the hospital. Is there any more medical info you can send?

Appeal but also ask for their decision criteria- ours has a matrix type scoring system that you have to pass to get one automatically which can then have additional assements added in. It might be worth an email to who ever deals with parking services at the council. Flowers

I've just applied to renew mine. It automatically said I wasn't eligible. Why? When I've had new diagnoses since my last one.

Infuriating, isn't it?!

They say they won't contact medical professionals,if they did they would see my doctor agreed.

I've just renewed mine. Can't understand why they want evidence again when nothings changed aside from being put on a waiting list

RachelsPeeves · 07/07/2025 10:35

Can you get a letter from your GP to send to them? I appreciate they may charge. Alternatively get a copy of your medical records from the GP. I'd be petty and send the whole lot, highlighting the relevant details of course but meaning that some one would have go through the whole lot (that might be a step too far though)

AddictedToBooks · 07/07/2025 10:37

Do you receive any benefit for your mobility?
I noticed that when it was time to renew mine, they asked for photographic proof of my entitlement to benefit which they hadn't done last time.

Last time I had to go for a physical assessment.

Definitely appeal and if need be, ask for a physical assessment - I think they're literally just trying to kick as many people off the Blue Badge scheme as quietly as they can,

I did get mine but it arrived late and I'd received absolutely no acknowledgement apart from the initial receipt of payment and also noticed that I didn't get a reference number this time to chase it up, so had no idea whether there was a problem - I messaged the office at my local council who deals with it after 23 weeks and received a very terse email telling me it was in the system.

AddictedToBooks · 07/07/2025 10:43

*after 12 weeks sorry - not 23

I don't get PIP even though I scored really highly, I filled out the form with the CAB and the assessment was so awful and they scored me zero pints . It was so awful I didn't appeal ( that was years ago)

Neither of my parents get benefits and have Blue Badges so it's not just awarded if you have benefits.

Has your council changed party since the local elections? Is it a council thing?
It does seem odd. Mine is valid til 2028 and my condition is degenerative so that will be interesting! I did get it due to PIP eligibility though. You really should reapply and appeal if you can face it (I know it is a horrendous experience!).

Good luck!

Yes, it was Tory and now Labour

My PIP renewal was delayed in the system (for nearly six months) so I couldn't use the PIP award letter to renew my blue badge. I attached one of those hospital letters sent to update GPs about consultations (I automatically get a copy) which had listed my multiple health conditions on it as well. That was accepted without question. Do you have any of those you could use?

I sent in x-rays of my very bionic looking ankle which has always sufficed in the past. I don't have ongoing treatment for it,just manage with pain killers.

Where I live you just send off the PIP award letter & the blue badge is automatic.
I don't think you can get a blue badge without PIP unless you are elderly.

You can get a blue badge without pip. I do and do receive pip but not the qualifying mobility part

KrystalKrystal · 07/07/2025 11:58

Due to my PIP review still in process I couldn't use mine, so I just sent GP letter and OT housing report.

For my elderly mother it was the first time I'd applied for her, I sent GP report, OT hospital letter and Attendance Allowance award letter.

We both were awarded Blue Badges. I think your best bet is to get a letter from your GP, it cost £30 for my mum's one but was worth it. My GP doesn't charge.

Can I ask what you requested from the GP? I don't mind paying

It's in my notes that the GP suggested I applied for one but that was years ago and I imagine they will want an up to date one- just to be difficult.

Yes thats fine. In both of our GP letters I requested a list of our current medical conditions, our current medications and explain how our conditions effect our daily lives and mobility.

I just remembered before I ever had PIP a few years after my car accident, I got my first Blue Badge without it. I just submitted letters from both my GP and Rheumatologist. If you also have any letters from specialists (not appointment letters) include those also.

All the best

Sorry I meant "affects"

Ohthatsabitshit · 07/07/2025 13:25

I thought that PIP didn’t automatically mean you got a BB?

DinoLil · 07/07/2025 13:32

Interesting about PIP. I renewed my PIP claim last September and stiiiiiiiiiiill waiting 🙄

I've also appealed the BB rejection by applying again. It asked for evidence to be uploaded but no more than 10mb. I put on the form that 132 pages of evidence for the past couple of years is lodged with the DWP for my PIP renewal with new things diagnosed. And also with my now UC migration thing from ESA.

How can they issue a BB and then not if nothing has changed?

Bahhhhhh!!!!!

ScaryM0nster · 07/07/2025 13:36

I think there are quite a few around that were either issued without much review, or were issued for temporary conditions and shouldn’t be renewed. So they’re now starting to confirm eligibility on renewal.

I can see how x rays aren't sufficient. You get some seriously bionic looking reconstruction that’s very successful and the person can lead a normal day to day life (or even an active and sporty one) rather than have limited mobility.

It depends on how many points you get and what for. PIP sometimes means people are automatically eligibility for a BB. But not always.

TheFairyCaravan · 07/07/2025 13:41

My PIP renewal wasn’t through in time for my Blue Badge renewal so I had to fill in the form and send evidence instead. It was accepted straight away, and my new BB was sent through in less than a month.

I think you’ll need to send in more evidence than an X-ray tbh.
