Just seen on the news she's been found guilty. I haven't really followed this in detail. But it does sound like she was guilty. With the different coloured plates and so on. But I suppose there is always an element of doubt.

They are not divorced! They separated in 2015 and have got back together regularly since then, on Erin's terms, and gone on family holidays together in Australia and overseas.

Her son said he didn't like being at his dad's because it was boring. He's had Erin in his ear since childhood, and had no doubt been poisoned subtly or otherwise against him - but a young boy finding his father's house more boring than his mother's is not an indictment of Simon Patterson's character.

The charges against Erin of attempted murder of SP are serious. They won't be heard now, but it does not remove the horror of what he experienced. I think it is in poor taste to malign the victims.

I don't necessarily think Erin was 'in his ear' poisoning the relationship with the children's father, he did a good job of that himself. I think their son was probably well aware of his father's poor attitude to supporting his children. Perhaps the details should have been kept from the children but to blame Erin for poisoning her children against Simon is a little unfair. Simon only offered the bare minimum in child support - a measly $38 per month, he refused to pay half of the school fees and refused to pay his son's medical bills. On top of that he still felt he had a claim to Erin's inheritance money years after they had officially separated. These facts are all an indictment of Simon's character.

Obviously he didn't deserve to lose his family in such an awful way but you can't ignore his failings just because he is a victim. He clearly isn't a very nice person either which is why his poor children don't want to live with him.

Simon was paying (from memory) $45,000 in school fees per year. Erin went for child support when he or his tax agent wrote "separated" on his tax return. It was a government agency that determined the amount he ought to pay, bearing in mind Erin's financial situation (loaded) and his (most probably at that time unable to work, after he was hospitalised and in a coma for 16 days, and had parts of his bowel removed in a suspected earlier attempt on his life by Erin).

Her disatisfaction with him as a husband and father could have been addressed in couples counselling, or via a divorce - not by poisoning attempts, and the annhilation of his family, and the children's grandparents and their other relatives.

but you can't ignore his failings just because he is a victim. He clearly isn't a very nice person either which is why his poor children don't want to live with him.

Are you for real?

I listened to a podcast on the trial as it was happening.

Truly awful for the victims and their loved ones. By all accounts they were decent people and there was just no reason to do this to them

Her mil had the date of a hospital appointment (which was part of the cover up story) written on her calendar and texted Erin to check on her after the appointment...Erin and her husband were separated at this time and I just thought it kind and thoughtful that she tracked the appointment and remembered it to check up on her...they clearly still included her and thought of her as family. That really stood out to me for some reason

I also think criticism of the ex husband is unfair...he was told by the government agency to stop paying medical and school fees once Erin put the claim in for child support.

Its all speculation as to whether he was a poor father or whether Erin poisoned his kids against him but this poor bloke has lost 3 close family members at the hands of his ex wife.

The main evidence that he was a poor father is from Erin, who is an unreliable narrator, given she murdered his mother, father, aunt and uncle and planned to murder him too (he declined to attend the dinner).

Yes, the amount of child support he was required to pay was minimal but Erin had millions through inherited wealth and didn’t need to work. Simon had been hospitalised 4 times in a year, all after eating food Erin had cooked for her and had required extensive surgery to his bowel and a long ICU stay. He was ventilated for 2 weeks and that in itself results in muscle atrophy and loss of condition. He would have been unlikely to work to full capacity.

It was Erin’s son who said there was nothing to do at his dad’s but I think her son will be struggling now with how Erin threw him ( her son) under the bus during her own testimony,

Sorry - too late to edit but she didn’t murder Ian, Simon’s uncle. He miraculously survived the poisoning but Erin has been convicted of his attempted murder

Anyone watching this on Netflix? I can't believe how much the Dr and, to a lesser extent, the journalist with the dark hair are clearly loving all the attention, being a part of this. Laughing about it and showing "souvenirs" from the case.

TaffetaPhrases · 24/12/2025 16:08

I know!! That doctor!! Big old Mohawk and a potty mouth…. I was amazed watching him! That journo was enjoying herself a bit too much I thought

AntiqueVases · 24/12/2025 17:08

Frankly, the fact that a medical doctor was giving an interview to Netflix AT ALL I found bad enough. The fact he was relishing his role in the whole thing, I found just so, so inappropriate. And yes, the laughing, the overacting and the freshly done mohawk hairstyle (clearly newly done for the Netflix interview given the tan lines along the side of his head). Shame on him!

I got the impression that the journalist with the dark hair was really sorry when it was all over and will be rather bereft and need to find a new hobby. As the kids say these days she "made it her entire personality" for 2 years.

Having worked in crime myself I was really shocked. It put me in mind of when American lawyers high five each other IN FRONT OF THE BEREAVED FAMILY when a not guilty verdict comes in.

British justice may not be perfect but it seems a hell of a lot more dignified than Australia if this case is anything to go by.
