Food for me.

I reckon I could plan better in advance, shop less and minimise waste.

Food. Lovely, lovely fooooood. Nothing wasted but we could definitely spend less. I could take packed lunches to work but just can’t be bothered.

VintageKefir · 06/07/2025 13:28

Beer😂
We are near 0 food waste, but god can we put away beers like there is no tomorrow...

BittyItty · 06/07/2025 13:28

Amazon. I need to delete the app.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/07/2025 13:30

Take aways here too
But in my defence I take the remainder of ours for lunch and DH has the rest of his (WFH)
DC an I have pizza , DH has Chinese which I don;t like .

andanotherproblem · 06/07/2025 13:31

Coffee shops, I probably spend over 100 per month

DustyMaiden · 06/07/2025 13:33

Eating out. Weeks shopping budget on one meal.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 06/07/2025 13:35

We've cut down on food when credit criss hit - could possible do more as our income gone up it's gone slightly up but still less than we used to spend and still less fresh than once we had.

Days out - again already cut down already or stopped nearly all- though yesterday we did train out picnic lunch, walk and really only spent money on train tickets and drinks - so are trying to do more again but cheaper like we did when kids were young.

I think it's TV services - been on at DH to stop Sky TV for years now but he's agrees but then doesn't - plus number of other servcies has crept up - two are rolled into other things - one of which is sky - one free with bank account DH has - one he pays for one I do.

Ah now I save time and money with Amazon
If I go to the shops to find a particular item I bet they won't have it . So an Amazon search saves me time , petrol, parking and the risk of buying something inferior .

M&S ordering - I haven't updated my password so not ordered anything to collect since they ceased online.
It means no random purchases "can you collect this for me " to DD.
Physical shop = buy less

Holidays.

I have just had my third holiday of the year; two abroad & one in the UK. We are also going away to Europe in September and we will do a long haul trip next winter. All these trips are outside school holidays which obviously makes them a lot cheaper than travelling in July, August, Easter etc.

Obviously these trips are a luxury which cost a lot of money, but my mortgage is paid off, I can afford them & life is for living. Everyone who has worked hard enough for long enough to be in a position where they have some disposable income makes choices about how they spend it. I spend a LOT less than most people on clothes, shoes, handbags, cosmetics, hair & beauty treatments, takeaways, subscriptions etc etc & buying piles of consumerist tat.

ForZanyAquaViewer · 06/07/2025 13:38

Gosh, all of them. Food, clothes, going out, house stuff. I just spent £12K on the garden and I’m not quite sure how I managed it, tbh.

SunnieShine · 06/07/2025 13:38

Mirrorxxx · 06/07/2025 13:16

Holidays. But I actually want to increase it

Good for you! I would if I could.

OurMavis · 06/07/2025 13:39

Holidays. I added it once, ooch.
We never eat out or buy food and drink out except on holiday.

ZiggyZowie · 06/07/2025 13:40

Once a week , cafe trips £13 each time for me and DH, that's 2 coffees and 2 scones.

However, we spend over an hour there, have a really good natter and it's much appreciated breathing space from looking after a bedbound daughter, plus another 2 daughters with learning disabilities.

So I feel I could cut back but then again it is such a nice break from our responsibilities.

I could have (almost) written this exact post so I won't bother saying it again!

Holidays. But life’s too short

Me too. You never know what's round the corner.

SunnieShine · 06/07/2025 13:41

Another one for food. I'd save if I cooked from scratch more but I'm knackered as it is.

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 06/07/2025 13:45

I could give up my membership at one of the posher gyms and go to the local council one instead. But I love going there, and go most days so get my money's worth out of it. It is my one luxury in life tbh.

DryDay · 06/07/2025 13:47

My husband. Elaborate meals when I’d be happy with simple salads and all the gin, beer, wine and whisky (I don’t drink).

Headfullofbees · 06/07/2025 13:47

Vinted. Have basically stopped buying for myself after purchasing one too many things which turned out to not fit right/be a different colour than it appears on the photo/be some horrible fabric.

It's alright for the kids usually, but they definitely have 3x the number of clothes necessary as it's just so cheap and easy!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 06/07/2025 13:47

Food probably. A convenience eater, whose also calorie counting so I find the microwavable meals best as I know what I'm getting, the snack bars etc.

Amazon, I buy too much make up for someone who works from home so doesn't wear make up much.

We have quite a few streaming subscriptions but we watch a lot of tv and niche shows so it's worth it for us.

TwiceForLunch · 06/07/2025 13:50

Food 100%.

Alcohol also. We went to a restaurant last week for DS1 birthday. I had 2 glasses of wine and was shocked to see they came to £14 each. DH and I share wine about 3 times a week at a tenner a time. Literally pissing money down the drain.

TheignT · 06/07/2025 13:51

Spending on GC. I don't want to though.

Buddhalover · 06/07/2025 13:51

QVC shopping channel! Next sale and spending on the grand children (most enjoyable) lol.

JohnsShirt · 06/07/2025 13:52

Gig tickets.
