How on earth do you keep an HRT patch on in this weather??

I am in the south of England and it's regularly on the high 20s/low 30s every day just now and I cannot get my Evorel HRT patches to stay on at all. I am going through one a day instead of 2 a week!

I am putting them on dry skin that's as cool as possible first thing in the morning but later on in the day they just peel straight off.

I am giving silicone dressing tape a go to see if that will keep it on. Fingers crossed... Any other suggestions?

I’m currently in Mallorca today my Buprenorphine patch finally gave up after me having coaxed it along for three days with application of cling film!
It has another 4 days life left and I’m at my wits end trying to keep the dratted thing in contact with my skin (upper arm, inside) as directed in the leaflet.
today we expect a temp of 32 deg and I anticipate there will not be any part of me that is not wet and I have a month of this torment to go.
The patch Instructions say they are suitable for showering and swimming!!
What planet do these people live on?

Im going to try good old fashioned “bandage”, I’ll look like a road accident victim but if it keeps it on I don’t care!
Just reading here about the experiences of folks who have a Stoma, my heart goes out to them, If anyone deserves a proper solution, they do.
Surely technology has evolved sufficiently to master this “Real World” problem?

Finally, I don’t come here very often, and find the ads are just too intrusive, you can’t browse the posts for more than a minute before a dratted ad obscures your view and I can’t for the life of me get rid of it! 😡
That's all folks!

MiddleAgedDread · 18/07/2025 10:02

i switched to gel and pills for this reason! I was getting through so many that the GP practice wouldn't sign my repeat prescription requests because I'd only had 3 months supply so recently! Even in winter they rarely stayed for the required time. I'm a sweaty person when I exercise and in summer or on holiday I was replacing them daily.

ruethewhirl · 18/07/2025 10:08

Well, not HRT but my Deep Heat patch fell off into the toilet last night so I’m bookmarking for tips 😄

Ddakji · 18/07/2025 10:11

Hmm, odd. I’m in London so just as hot as the OP, and have never had this. I stick mine on my bum.

Maybe you need to try a different brand? Mine are Evorel.

ultraviolet4753 · 18/07/2025 10:19

I put kinesio/KT over the patch and it's on there solid.
To remove the adhesive, use baby oil.

ultraviolet4753 · 18/07/2025 10:20

I put kinesio/KT tape over the patch and it's on there solid. Also use this on a fentynl patch for years with no problems.

I am using Evorel at the moment due to shortages of Estradot. I hate them, they’re massive, they itch and leave rashes.
The Evorel come off when I go running or get sweaty at the gym but stick otherwise. I rub them in my hands before applying and I’ve also started cutting them in half and sticking the two halves on separately which seems to be better.
Are you using moisturising shower gel? I used some the other day, (I don’t normally) and it definitely left me feeling a bit greasy.

DirtyLilMonkey · 18/07/2025 13:29

@FearsomeWretchedandWrong
THAT sounds like a plan!
Pity I won’t be able to get any here!
I will enquire at some of the Tattoo Parlours around town and see if te can help.

wouldn’t it be a good idea if the dratted manufacturers of the sodding patches used this quality of glue in the first place?😡
No that’s just too logical!
Today, I’ve wrapped it with crepe bandage, the problem then was not a single safety pin to be found in my apartment!
Ended up having to sew the thing on!!😂

Imsixtyandiknowit · 18/07/2025 13:36

I put mine low down on my stomach- maybe try that?

gamerchick · 18/07/2025 13:52

I don't understand why they come off. I gym a lot, shower a lot and haven't had one come off. I take it out of it's wrapper, stick it down my bra for half an hour to warm the glue up and then stick it on.

Taking it off feels like it's ripping my skin off. There can't be that many faulty batches in the world.

gamerchick · 18/07/2025 14:04

Well not so much in this heat like but it's more effective than warming them up in your hands.

DirtyLilMonkey · 18/07/2025 18:35

@gamerchick & @Imsixtyandiknowit
not sure if those posts are meant for me, ‘cos I’m something of an interloper here!
A three score years and ten “escapee” if you will, and male to boot!
I come here for some sensible ideas! 😀

My problem isn’t with oestrogen patches, but Buprenorphine patches for pain relief!
Because I’m in Mallorca on holiday, I don’t have the luxury of ordering more patches, and especially since they’re “controlled drugs”, I would not be able to get replacements here.
I just have to make the dratted things stick!
The much vaunted “suitability for use when showering and swimming are total fantasy in anything approaching a warm climate.

I had the same problem with nicotine patches twenty years ago, they used to just slide off like cream pies in a comedy sketch but not as noticeable as with pain relief!

My stitching (so far) is holding up, and will see me through to next Monday when I will certainly try to cleanse the site prior to fixing the next one.
Still enquiring re the tattoo protection film.

Tegaderm patches are your friend

How on earth do you get rid of the glue residue that the patches leave when removed?

Use hand sanitizer to get the glue off your skin. My menopause specialist recommended using the alcohol wipes before applying a patch. This didn’t work for me and I switched to gel I wasn’t absorbing very well on a patch.

ButteredRadish · 18/07/2025 22:42

Kiniesology Tape over the top. Amazon has pre-cut strips. Just do NOT rip it off quickly when you’re changing your patch. Unlike plasters, it will take a layer of skin off. Just remove in or after the shower, pulling it slowly. It’s very strong stuff!

Pure acetone. You’re welcome!

MagpiePi · 20/07/2025 11:59

I heard that you could use the old patches to remove the sticky residue, but I always find they are pretty sweaty underneath when I take them off so this has never worked for me. They smell too 🤮 which can’t be good.
I have been known to use acetone or duct tape to get the residue off. Or I scratch it off with a fingernail. Don’t do this in the shower as the bits get smeared on the tray and are a bugger to clean off.

summertimeinLondon · 20/07/2025 12:07

I’m having this problem too. They stick like superglue in normal weather, but in the hot weather it’s like the adhesive melts and the patch just slides off. Aargh!

Judiezones · 20/07/2025 12:25

I use Evorel and have no trouble keeping them on. My friend who lives nearby had to switch to gel because she couldn't keep Evorel on. I've no idea why I'm lucky. Maybe my skin is more naturally dry. I put them on my thigh near my hip, at the front.

musicmum75 · 20/07/2025 12:59

Thanks for all the tips. I have been fine recently now the temperature has dropped below 30 but I have two weeks in the Med coming up so suspect I will have issues again. Will order some of the patches and tapes that have been recommended to take with me. Makes me wonder how women in hotter climates cope, and why this problem hasn't been solved a long time ago!!

I am going to have to order a new prescription soon which is way sooner than I should need it. Am hoping my GP will be understanding that this is a temporary problem.

Just don't get it, I swim most of the day in the sea in Cyprus in August and have NEVER had one fall off in all the time I have used them🤔

SydneyCarton · 20/07/2025 13:33

I’m having the same issue with Evorel. I started using the 50 patches in February and had no problems but have just gone up to 75s and they’re coming off in 24 hours. I’m doing nothing differently from when I had the 50s so wondering if it’s something to do with the strength of the hormones???? Clutching at straws here 🤣

I got some tips on here and tried warming it up before opening the packaging, then warming it after sticking. My current one’s been on for 24 hours but I haven’t showered yet and am pretty sure it’s going to come off 😬

I don’t get why you don’t get it. I swim every day in the sea late August/early September in Cyprus and use the gel instead.

For two reasons: the patches fall off and I don’t want to be covered in little pink squares of pale skin.
