I’m a big podcast fan, just love listening whilst doing housework, in the car, going for walks etc
But have found myself listening to the same old 5-6 and am feeling a bit uninspired! Would love to get some recommendations for something fresh to tune into. If you can be arsed to explain why you like it that would be a bonus🧡🙏

Current regulars are:
> Feel Better, Live More (Dr Chattergee)
> DOAC
> Happy Place with Ferne Cotton
> Sounds True: Insights at the Edge
> Begin Again (Davina McCall)

Sometimes dip into:
> > Desert Island Discs (although have seriously exhausted the back catalogue!)
> The Louise Newson podcast
> The Mel Robbins podcast
> Table Manners
> Triggernometry
> How to Fail
> Louis Theroux Podcast

Not into true crime stuff, have tried multiple times but just find myself switching off🫠

You’re Dead to Me - niche history discussed between a historian and a comedian chaired by the bloke from horrible histories. Really interesting and usuallly myth busting.

Highsmithery · 28/06/2025 10:56

Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth is one of my favourites.

Dish is great if you can not let Angela Hartnett’s laugh make you murderous.

ToClimb · 28/06/2025 10:58

Old Timey Podcast - random little known history tales that have shaped out lives today. Really funny and interesting

Mine are nearly all true crime, but there’s a few I dip into every now and then.

Youre dead to me -someone has already mentioned. Easy listening.

Lady Killers - Lucy Worsley

BBC Newscast

Crowd Science

The Pitcairn Trials, Stalked, Kill List (all on Apple Podcasts) are all crime based but interesting.

I’ve been listening to The Gift series 2. It’s all about people who’ve taken DNA tests and found out something about their background which has been shocking. Eg the person who was swapped at birth by mistake in the hospital.

BloodyHellBob · 28/06/2025 11:31

I love Stand Up For The Classics by Natalie Haynes. Easy listening and let’s you know how to pronounce all those Greek names!

CatRoleplayTycoon · 28/06/2025 11:33

Better Known — a different person talks about six things they think should be better known, and one thing they wish were less well-known.

The Rest Is Entertainment with Marina Hyde and Richard Osman

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/06/2025 11:49

Oh and I like it because it’s lighthearted and not try hard, topics like tv shows, entertainment news, film, cultural trends

GameOfJones · 28/06/2025 11:50

Uncanny - people tell their stories of strange/supernatural experiences and a sceptical psychologist and a paranormal believer both try to find an explanation. I don't believe in ghosts or "woo" at all and find it really interesting.

You're Dead To Me - already mentioned but a comedian and a historical expert will discuss an aspect of history. It's both funny and interesting and I like the quiz at the end to test what I learned!

True Crime Creepers - sorry, I know you said you're not into true crime but I like the presenters and the format of Kirsten and Mogab, who are friends with Kirsten telling the story and hearing Mogab's reaction.

ShadesOfPemberley · 28/06/2025 11:54

Adam Buxton! The original and the best!

I like it too, and have listened to it for a long time, but I’m cooling off on it slightly now. Not only do I not care about Sydney Sweeney’s bath water, but Richard, whom I’ve always thought was nice, seems to me to be cutting across Marina far more lately and doing a lot of ‘blokesplaining’ in a way that’s starting to get on my nerves.

I always mean to check out the other ‘The Rest Is’ podcasts.

I liked Uncanny’s two longform ‘series’, The Battersea Poltergeist and The Witch Farm, though, as a skeptic, neither was at all mysterious, but I find the one-off episodes mostly unsatisfying, with a few exceptions, like Luibeilt and the one set in student accommodation in Belfast.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/06/2025 12:29

@CatRoleplayTycoon YES! The other day I was like shouting at it LET HER FINISH HER SENTENCE RICHARD!

whatwasthatnoise · 28/06/2025 12:57

If you're old enough to remember Kathy Burke, enjoy her banter, and you don't mind random celebs talking/laughing about their theoretical death then you'll like Where There's a Will, There's a Wake. Looks like Mel Giedroyc has taken over.

Foodie ones, I like Comfort Eating with Grace Dent, and Dish (but less so, not keen on Nick).

Moodershewrote · 28/06/2025 13:54

Oh thanks everyone, there are a few here that sound good! I’m going on a long driving holiday soon so will be good to have some downloaded and hopefully okay to play with bored teen / tween in the back 👍

I’m quite into psychology, health, travel, food and culture, don’t mind a bit of politics, but preferably more debate than rant😬

If you like watching TV:

They Like to Watch by Sarah Baron and Geoff Lloyd. The premise is basically them watching stuff on the telly and sharing their thoughts, mixed in with recommendations from their listeners and occasional interviews. They're both funny and insightful so it's always an enjoyable listen.

Prestige TV podcast, in depth analysis of current popular shows. They've covered stuff like The Last of Us, Succession, White Lotus. I like listening to these as an accompaniment when watching a series.

Off Air with Jane and Fi (Jane Garvey and Fi Glover). Current affairs combined with mindless chit chat, varied guest interviewees. They also have a book club series too.

SilverShadowNight · 28/06/2025 14:09

I like Shedunnit, No Such Thing As A Fish, It’s A Fair Cop and The Rest is History. Plus the Dr Chris and Xand podcasts and Inside Science.

The Anthropocene Reviewed podcast worked well for a lot of peoole I know driving with kids of various ages — episodes can be about things as random as shame or the plague or the goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek. I think it’s been over for a while, but I imagine episodes are still available.

@CatRoleplayTycoon YES! The other day I was like shouting at it LET HER FINISH HER SENTENCE RICHARD!

It’s not just me, then, @EineReiseDurchDieZeit !

I think i first started really noticing it in the episode where they discussed micro-dramas, and Marina said something ‘If you had to describe them to someone who’d never seen one, they’d be like a cross between —‘ and Richard cut straight across her because he’d clearly got a witticism he thought was far more important than whatever she was going to say.

Then I realised he’s got more aggressively bloke-ish and self-righteous over time. Their ‘arguments’ are less funny and more him laying down the law. I’m disappointed, because I thought he was a decent enough person, not given to alpha-male browbeating.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/06/2025 15:54

@CatRoleplayTycoon I felt like he was being a bit of a bully when she spoke about how great Citizen Kane is and he kept insisting it wasn’t as good as Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr. Like he was calling her a snob to his “man of the people “

Teen Commandment. It's Sara Cox with her best mate from teen hood. Funny talking about their old tales but also parenting their own teens.
