What were you doing in 1994?

I was 11/12. I don’t think the concept of a ‘tween’ existed yet, or at least if it did I wasn’t aware of it? I got Just 17 magazine most weeks which felt very grown-up. I especially loved the problem page, although I wasn’t much of a Take That fan and found all the Mark Owen pull-outs a bit tiresome.

We got Sky for the first time and I watched an awful lot of the old MTV Europe which actually showed music videos most of the time back then, rather than just the rubbishy reality shows it deteriorated into later. The Simpsons was only on once a week at 6pm on a Sunday, which was somewhat problematic as it clashed with the Top 40.

I was super excited when Wet Wet Wet stayed at number 1 the entire summer. Although I was too young to go and see the associated movie ‘Four Weddings’ and had to make do with ‘Free Willy’ and ‘The Flintstones’ instead.

How about you?

Sixth Year Studies before University. It was fabulous.

I was 13/14 - just about to enter a new phase in my life where I would move house and meet a whole different set of friends and start Venture Scouts where I would make friends for life. I loved my leggings and baggy shirts and would spend hours making and listening to mix tapes recorded from Capital FM.

I didn’t know that next year my dreams would come true and the boy I liked would be my first proper boyfriend and we would have an on/off relationship until I was 20.

GCSEs. First boyfriend. Wearing Sunflowers perfume. Drinking in pubs on fake ID. Listening to Let Loose, Baby D etc. Amazing times!

PluckyBamboo · 27/06/2025 23:01

Ah, when your dinner money was enough to buy 10 Regal Kingsize. Sigh

gottabereallyhonest · 27/06/2025 23:04

It was one of the worst years of my life, I was taking GCSEs, which I was no good at, there was a huge breakdown between me and my parents after years of emotional abuse & no time spent focusing on my needs, due to having an older sister with a range of special needs.

It is because of this (and because of what happened mostly in this year) that I have so much understanding of older people who can't come to terms with how far society has come in terms of recognizing neurodiversity, because you know, life was one hell of a struggle for so many of us back then and we had no choice but to find ways to cope.

One thing I do miss from this period is the fashion for bright and bold colours in the home. Homes were very cheerful places and people had a lot of choice, so as to be individual. These days "fashion" only seems to consist of one thing at a time.

Also, I can't quite believe it was 31 years ago...it feels like six months.

Doing my GCSEs and starting my A-Levels. Going the pub during lunch and going back to school half cut. Pretending I could sing and starting a band called the hippy chicks with my mates. 😂

24- living in London doing accountancy training with one of the big companies and living near Waterloo paying hardly any rent and earning good money.
Lots of work socialising - loads of us in our 20s doing professional exams, working, drinking and snogging!. Had a fairly serious boyfriend but no intention of settling down with him ( and didn’t..).
Wore lots of suits and court shoes!

museumum · 27/06/2025 23:07

Turned 18 and started university. Glorious year!

dottyaboutstripes · 27/06/2025 23:09

This was my edd with my first baby! It was a great time for me, got married that year too. Had no money but life was good 😊

SingleAHF · 27/06/2025 23:10

I was trapped in a violent and abusive relationship with no means of escape and too embarrassed under ashamed to tell anyone what was going on.

I was in my first/second year of uni. One of the best times of my life 😊

heroinechic · 27/06/2025 23:17

I was born!

Charlieangle · 27/06/2025 23:19

I had my first child. Best year of my life. Also Oasis were the soundtrack of this year, a brilliant year.

I remember 1994 so well! In the spring I met a lovely chap through friends and felt there was just something about him. Unfortunately I was engaged to someone else and I married him a couple of months after I turned 18 later in the year. A few weeks after the wedding I happened to be sat next to the lovely chap in the pub and just felt that I needed to know more about him. It wasn't even a lust thing, just a connection. But I knew nothing could ever happen between us so I put it aside and threw myself into college.

Needless to say the lovely chap is DH2 and sat across the sofa from me now with our DS asleep upstairs. We have been together since 1999.

I had just started my first job in the City - hated every minute of it

Tdcp · 27/06/2025 23:20

I was 8, gallivanting around London a lot, tons of time with extended family etc. I was a good time in my life :)

WearyAuldWumman · 27/06/2025 23:21

I was getting ready for my wedding.

JBJ · 27/06/2025 23:25

I was 15/16 and doing my GCSE’s. Went straight into a full time job after that and most of my wages went on clubbing every weekend!

JadeSeahorse · 27/06/2025 23:37

Moved house in the April which has unexpectantly turned out to be our forever home.
Still here 31 years later with absolutely no plans to ever move.

Had our DD in the August following years of infertility treatment and several missed miscarriages.

All in all a terrific year for us. ♥️

triggers34 · 27/06/2025 23:41

I was 27 working as a nurse and had just managed to buy my first house for 28 grand. 5 years away from meeting Dh and enjoying the single life.

MyIvyGrows · 27/06/2025 23:54

I was 10, just starting to get into pop music. Whigfield’s “Saturday Night” was my favourite and I got a copy of Now 29 for my birthday.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 27/06/2025 23:54

If were talking about June 27th 1994, I was just over 2 weeks away from being born!

GriseldaChop · 27/06/2025 23:55

Finished my A levels and started Uni, best few years enjoying being young and going out. No stresses or responsibilities, great time! Grin

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/06/2025 23:56

Expecting our first child 😊
