What did you do for your 50th ?

I want to make it special and really mark the occasion. My 40th was a total let down. Looking for inspiration for my 50th

Not much - it was during lockdown. Takeaway pizza and Prosecco.

We went to London for the weekend with my DS who as 13 at the time. I love animals and my DH arranged for me to be a zookeeper for the day at London Zoo which I loved! We then had a lovely dinner and spent the next day walking around London. I really enjoyed it.

Mine is in 2 weeks, DH and I are going to Canada, I’ll be toasting my 50th overlooking Niagara Falls
im so excited!!!!!

Weekend at home with some good friends from various parts of my life:
Buffet food on arrival on Friday
A fun wine-tasting on Saturday afternoon.
Dinner catered for by a private chef (with more good wine).
Hearty cooked breakfast on Sunday

Was a really fun weekend with the chef cooking dinner on Saturday a highlight. Not much cheaper than a restaurant, but meant nobody had to drive and we were all in our private space.

We are going on a trip to Asia for the full time the kids are off over summer - so basically 2 months.

I had a week away planned, had weekend away planned abroad with girlfriends, hubby had organised a surprise birthday party and we had a meal out planned as a family. All went to pot though due to lockdown. Plus other health-related stuff meant it was awful. If it had gone to plan thought, I definitely feel it’s better to organise a few things even if it’s not holidays, but a day out, a meal out, takeout, or weekend catching up with different family and friends. Make it last 2-3 weeks. Depends if you like a party though or if you prefer a holiday etc. If you have lots of separate friends and family, or a few close people that you’d like to see. Everyone is different and no size will fit all!

Make a list of pros and cons of a few ideas to help you decide.

Travelled to Venice on The Orient Express via Paris. It really was the trip of a lifetime. Stayed at a beautiful hotel on The Grand Canal. It was amazing - DH booked it all and really came up trumps.

I went to the south of France with my husband. London with my girlfriends. Lots of meals out with various friends.

Went for a walk on the beach, pub lunch, home for tea and cake.

I had a big party - rented a bar - pizzas delivered every hour, about 150 people.
nice lunch with my partner, kids and my parents.
went to Mallorca for 4 days with partner which was amazing.
spa weekend with the girls, my best pal who lives overseas appeared at my party and then again 2 weeks later in the sauna. Which made me weep. Twice.
i feel very blessed.

I don’t have the big family and friend groups I had when younger, I keep in touch with a handful of relatives ( honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t come) and very small group of friends. I don’t care about numbers, I want an old fashioned do where I can dress up and dance. I know my DH & DDs will be there and a small group of friends, I will extend the invite and if people show excellent, if not so be it, I plan on having fun. My 40th was very much controlled by my toxic family, making things difficult on venue, food who I could invite, that is not happening this time. Invites will go out and if people come great, if not so be it, the people I care about will be there.
