I want to make it special and really mark the occasion. My 40th was a total let down. Looking for inspiration for my 50th

I went to an exhibition in the British Museum and then had supper in a restaurant with my daughter who had just just started at UCL. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I had a great day.

Big group walk and picnic at a beautiful place I love. Followed by dinner and staying over for some of us at a nice hotel in said beautiful place. TBH I was absolutely amazed how many people turned out for it 😍

We were 50 the same year so went on an expensive holiday, we had been saving for years.

Nichebitch · 27/06/2025 11:45

Depends on the budget! I’m planning a fancy hotel in Switzerland for my 50th. Just eating fondue and looking at the Alpes ❤️

Pebbles16 · 27/06/2025 11:45

I had norovirus - wasn't entirely what had been planned.

GuevarasBeret · 27/06/2025 11:45

Decided to get a divorce.

Celebrated that instead with a group of ten friends, all of whom had supported me through it.

TeenLifeMum · 27/06/2025 12:01

I had Covid and was bed bound for my 40th but we did a year of stuff - holidays, concerts, mini trips, and I started a post grad qualification. I’ve sworn that my 50th will be holidays and maybe a silly car… no more mad uni ideas (course completed in 2 years and glad I did it but my god it was hard).

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 27/06/2025 12:06

Barcelona with DH. Booked at one of Ferrari Alba’s restaurants (not El bulli)First hol sans kids so meant to be also mini second honeymoon. (Sadly any honeymoonesque activities were put on hold by the last, fucking horrendous, period of peri) But it was amazing.

Left it to dp to organise. Zilch. So did a tandem sky dive.

unsync · 27/06/2025 12:14

I took part in a sporting event in the Caribbean. Took my bestie with me and we were there for just under two weeks. It was fab.

Hkakge · 27/06/2025 12:23

Had a city break in Barcelona with my partner, it was great

Lampzade · 27/06/2025 12:25

Holiday to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Indonesia , Malaysia and Singapore
Three week trip with dh

YellowGrey · 27/06/2025 12:26

Hired out the downstairs room in a local bar and had a big party.

Hadalifeonce · 27/06/2025 12:27

Had about 50 people to catered party, and turned 1 room into a casino.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/06/2025 12:29

Got divorced. I recommend it!

Anzena · 27/06/2025 12:34

I had a family get together of 16 in a fabulous restaurant with a terrace overlooking a river. It was Spanish themed and there was great flamenco type music (and we all danced too). Plenty of Rioja and a great night had by all. Big parties of the wandering, mingling, finger food, standing around type are not my scene.

I think once you're with people you know and love and are comfortable with, it can work brilliantly! I paid for it and it was worth every single penny.

I should have done it for my 40th @EmpressaurusKitty! At least I finally got there.

Cynic17 · 27/06/2025 13:04

Nothing, because I don't understand why adults make a fuss about their own birthdays, or why it should be any different if there is a zero at the end.
But, if you choose to celebrate, just do whatever you want!

Eyesopenwideawake · 27/06/2025 13:08

Had an afternoon party (which went on late into the night) then hopped on a plane to the UK and was whisked to the Waterside Inn for dinner and an overnight stay. Sadly my DP, who organised all this as a surprise, got hit by a norovirus about 10 minutes before we had dinner and missed the whole thing. I got it on the way home 😩

EBearhug · 27/06/2025 13:08

Went to Paris by myself (saves anyone letting me down.) Did lots of art galleries. Flooded hotel bed with start of perimenopausal 16 day period.

My 40th involved the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum etc in Amsterdam. Also unexpected period started in Hamburg a couple of days later. There's a theme...

My 50th is coming up in the next few months. Have been finding it very hard to know what I want to do. Am going to celebrate it (a bit early) with extended family but other than that I don’t know. Part of me would like to go on a holiday somewhere but I seem to have gone off travelling recently! Maybe I’ll try and do some things to celebrate the whole year…

You could try and plan, or make a commitment to plan, one nice new thing or a treat every month either for the whole year or part of it. This is basically what I did and it was great! It felt special.

caringcarer · 27/06/2025 14:40

50th went to France for a week and we ended up buying a house. 60th went to Bruges for 4 days.

Swallowdoubleandrunamile · 27/06/2025 15:24

I had my portrait painted.

Dearg · 27/06/2025 15:30

Got a dog - turned out to be the love of my life ( sorry DH).

Large group of school friends of the same year, organised a reunion afternoon tea - that was a fun afternoon.
