…and you have just discovered that what would usually be a 1 hour 12 minute train journey and a 10 minute walk each way will now, because of train problems, will be at least 3 hours each way, much of it on a non air conditioned bus, would you still go?

RH1234 · 25/06/2025 19:03

I would.

Twisterpiggy · 25/06/2025 19:03

Yes, it’s hardly the end of the world.

pinkdelight · 25/06/2025 19:03

I’d go earlier and stay over. Unless I had insurance and could rearrange the booking.

NotTheRealStacy · 25/06/2025 19:04

Yep I would still go, I would take a book and some nice nibbles for the bus.

Gizlotsmum · 25/06/2025 19:04

I might look at seeing if I could get a hotel room for the night,

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 25/06/2025 19:05

It depends just how much i was looking forward to it really. And whether I could book a last minute travel lodge or something and go back next day,

rose69 · 25/06/2025 19:06

How do you know that the bus is not air conditioned.

Mikart · 25/06/2025 19:06

I wouldn't. Air conditioned possibly.

TheCurious0range · 25/06/2025 19:08

Can you connect to a different train line? Or drive at least party of the way? Also it's going to rain here tomorrow so I wouldn't worry about the heat more the time

LlynTegid · 25/06/2025 19:09

Tomorrow is a Thursday, are you sure there are no trains?

Divebar2021 · 25/06/2025 19:11

Well what’s the alternative? Lose the money on the ticket ? I’d probably look at staying over if I could.

CurlewKate · 25/06/2025 19:16

Thank you! No, I can’t stay over-I’ve already checked to see if any of my pet feeders are free ant they aren’t.!Yes, I know the bus will not be air conditioned. There is only one route by train and it’s suffered fire damage. The show is sold out so I can’t see it another day.

Six hours of travel would mean I thought seriously about not going.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/06/2025 19:29

No. That’s like almost a working day spent travelling. I would skip it.

NeedForSpeed · 25/06/2025 19:29

I would be contacting the theatre to discuss refund / exchange / resell / date swap options.

mondaytosunday · 25/06/2025 19:30

No

MaryGreenhill · 25/06/2025 19:31

Yes definitely

Generally event tickets are non refundable. I doubt any venue is going to do a last minute cancellation because the ticket buyer doesn’t want to get the bus.

Serencwtch · 25/06/2025 19:32

Id book a hotel & stay over.

notacooldad · 25/06/2025 19:32

Yes.
Maybe i would try and rearrange or if not seeing i could sleep over but i wouldn't miss it.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 25/06/2025 19:33

It would depend on the show. Is it something you are likely to be able to see again?

WildCherryBlossom · 25/06/2025 19:37

Yes, I would still go. The lack of air in is a bit rough, but I would treat it as an opportunity to catch on plenty of reading and take a couple of books and a magazine.

I've had success in asking before. I'd booked a ticket for a show then my work sent me away at short notice. They had a list of people who wanted tickets, so they refunded me less a small fee as they could sell it on

Don't ask, don't get.

CurlewKate · 25/06/2025 19:38

The venue is not going to be prepared to do anything about a country cousin’s travel
difficulties!

If they have a waiting list (which they probably do if it's sold out) they will refund and sell the ticket on. It's in no-one 's interests to have empty seats.

That said, is there absolutely no other train line? If you're only an hour outside of London it can't be that rural surely? There must be another town within three hours that has a train connection to London.
