Ring doorbell increase to £80 per year

We have a doorbell and a camera on the backdoor, both Ring. Both work great but the price hikes are getting wilder year on year, they now want £79.99 for this year.

Should I stick with it or just buy another brand? I've read on here about Eufys?

Thanks for any advice.

I'd also like to know about other systems, as need to replace my now broken one.

Dbank · 25/06/2025 16:39

I have a Reolink one, it's been excellent and is subscription free.

( Can use local storage, which can be access via an APP, and website, or be used with your own CCTV PVR or NAS at no extra cost).

If you break it down, Is £6-7 per month a lot for reassurance for door/house security? I’ve been thinking of getting one but didn’t think that was too much really. Not sure about cheaper options.

I pay that, which I think is decent value for unlimited devices at the same location. I have 5, plus the alarm system (not sure if this uses the subscription or not).

2 doorbells (as we are a corner plot and have 2 road facing doors), floodlight cam for driveway, floodlight cam for majority of garden, another outdoor cam for side garden, plus an indoor cam for watching our dogs if they are home alone.

OP only has 2, so pays double the single device price, but doesn't benefit from the plan being for unlimited devices.

humptydumptyfelloff · 25/06/2025 17:18

I have an outdoor ring doorbell, two outdoor stick up cams and two indoor plug in chimes all covered under the one subscription which I think is decent for the price.

peace of mind makes a big difference

I've got a blink doorbell. It's local storage and accessed via an app. We think it's pretty good and can be linked to alexa so you get a notification on alexa if someone rings the doorbell.

PearlsPearl · 27/06/2025 11:16

It was £50 last year. The increases put me off.

I've done some research on other brands that don't have a monthly cost but they'll obviously have the purchase costs. So I'm not sure what to do!

Personally I hate subscription culture so I wouldn't choose it. I'd rather pay more upfront and not have monthly/annual costs that always go up more than inflation. Netflix I can cope with but that's it!

Yes I can't decide

Yes I can't decide

It has been a few days so maybe if you list what you have found out, we can help?

Why can't you decide; how do the others you have looked at compare?

What is the outlay to replace your doorbell and camera compared with say, 2 years subscription (at the current rate)?

What will you lose or gain on functionality if you change, and are these features important to you?

LauraNorda · 28/06/2025 13:23

I've got a Eufy. All local storage under my control and no cost and it hasn't put a foot wrong yet.

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 28/06/2025 13:25

We ditched our ring doorbell and camera subscription for this exact reason. We got a Eufy camera and its been great. We kept the ring, as it still worked ok but use it just as a normal doorbell. We didnt need the extra recording and stuff when the Eufy covers what we need.

MigGril · 28/06/2025 13:28

OK I take it this must be for those who aren't as tech mined as DH setup cameras I think we have 4 and they all store data on our local hardware. Also he has an app which notifications if they spot anything while we are out, no yearly subscription. I actually don't know the make as he sorted them out but it's something I could do if I needed to.

MigGril · 28/06/2025 13:29

I'd look around and see whats available.

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 28/06/2025 13:32

You are joking?! I've recently renewed at the old price (50?).
The doorbell is 4yrs old so I should really start planning to replace it eventually. 80 might be worth it though as I live somewhere awful.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 28/06/2025 13:40

I just have mine with the free access? 🤷🏻‍♀️ not paying high fees. I can still see through it in the moment and answer the door remotely. It just doesn’t store the videos any more.

TheCurious0range · 28/06/2025 13:44

We've got eufy, no subscription, we've got the doorbell and two cameras. I've also bought the alarm pad and 3 contact sensors for the doors but haven't set them up yet

Ring seem to have gaps in recording so sometimes my cameras have missed someone turning up and then all of a sudden the alert shows them there.

Do these Reolink ones do that? I really want continuous coverage

Surely storing the videos is the most useful thing about ring ?
I think the price rise is steep, considering it doubled not so long ago to £50!

Do you view your video storage is the app? How long it stored for?

Allseeingallknowing · 28/06/2025 14:39

Do you have to have a separate subscription for each ring doorbell you have?

HappiestSleeping · 28/06/2025 14:42

I had Nest doorbell / cameras. Google bought Nest, and completely screwed the app. And the price went up.

I now have Eufy cameras and doorbell, no subscription and every bit as good as Nest used to be before Google buggered them up.

TheCurious0range · 28/06/2025 14:44

@Allseeingallknowing Yes we view it on the app , just checked and ours goes back to January 23rd. You could extend that by adding an SSD card to the homebase. You can also set boundaries so they don't pick up cars going past etc and it has the option to only detect humans we switched that on because the local cats and foxes were triggering it constantly and I have it set so I get a notification when someone is seen on camera. The ones we have don't record constantly though they are motion activated and also have lights.

JackieWilsonsaiditstimeforbedlittleone · 28/06/2025 14:47

I had no idea that people paid monthly for door bells! I thought it was a one off thing??

Thanks- is it like the ring peephole camera ( battery) or is it wired in?
I’m seriously considering this as I think ring have a cheek with this latest huge increase!
