What’s the earliest you’d play drums on a Sunday?

I’m awake and my drumming fingers are twitching 😁

What time on a Sunday would your neighbour playing the drums not bother you??

Im thinking maybe…11am? Surely everyone is up by then?

Never. Soundproofing needed or electric. Not fair to inflict that on your neighbours.

CherryVanillaPie · 22/06/2025 09:46

I live in a row of narrow terraces and I wouldn't ever play drums at home as I'm pretty sure neighbours would be FFSing about it. So I'd have to play in a studio or something. You might live in a detached with land though! Or have very tolerant neighbours.

What’s funny is that one of my neighbours also plays so it’s often a bit like duelling drummers 😬😬

Hilarious.

DiscoBeat · 22/06/2025 09:49

Sometimes the middle of the night! But no one can hear it here. I'd say 11 too if anyone can hear it.

My studio is soundproofed but I don’t think it’s as good as the previous owners claimed unfortunately.

The neighbour who also plays has done it for about 20 years and nobody has ever complained as far as I’m aware 🤷‍♀️ But he is much better than me!

Before I started playing I used to sit outside late at night to listen to him (he usually starts playing about 9/10pm 😱

Lighten up love (unless you’re my neighbour and this is your PA way of telling me you don’t like it)

No need for me to lighten up. We had a neighbour drumming, me and several other neighbours politely told them we thought it was inappropriate and thankfully they realised and stopped it! I was several houses away but could hear it inside with windows closed.

You sound like you don’t actually give a toss about inflicting unnecessary noise on anyone in your vicinity. so I just feel sorry for your neighbours. Just read the majority of responses here, many of your neighbours will be quietly seething and I feel sorry for them!

AmyDuPlantier · 22/06/2025 10:05

Well I don’t think they are because it’s been going on for 20 years without comment. And it’s also max 2 hours a week and never early or late. So no, I’m not overly concerned about it.

My neighbours two Huskies constantly and I mean CONSTANTLY howl and have done since I moved here six years ago. I don’t go round complaining.

Bit of live and let live has to exist for us all to live together don’t you think?

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 22/06/2025 10:07

In that case your neighbours are just as annoying as you! Happy Sunday! 😃

AmyDuPlantier · 22/06/2025 10:09

Yeah they are but they seem nice so I just smile and wave while their poor dogs pretend they’re at death’s door. Huskies are so dramatic!

I would say never, but I suppose 11ish would be ok. There are some instruments that are really antisocial and drums are one of them. My DD has an electronic set she uses headphones. She says it’s not the same but gets that’s hearing someone keep going over and over the same piece is just so annoying, rather like scales on the piano

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 22/06/2025 10:17

11

DilemmaDelilah · 22/06/2025 10:24

10.00 in the morning. When my neighbor-but-one moved in though I did have to go round and ask him if he could stop drumming at 10pm. He's a night owl and I don't think he had any idea of the time. He's been brilliant since - 12 years later.

avocadotofu · 22/06/2025 10:30

10am.

Noon at best.

Drum practice on a Sunday, what every neighbour wants.

Exactly.

londongirl12 · 22/06/2025 10:38

You’d piss me off at any time of day.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 22/06/2025 10:39

I agree @londongirl12drums and neighbours don’t mix.

Who wants to hear that through the walls for hours at a time??

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/06/2025 10:39

AmyDuPlantier · 22/06/2025 09:34

Ooh this is interesting, you lot are lovely and forgiving neighbours. I really don’t want an electric kit tbh, I looove my kit and it’s in an outdoor studio which is my happy place 😊

Can you soundproof?

Everyone’s happy.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/06/2025 10:40

Oh sorry just seen it is.

Ddakji · 22/06/2025 10:44

AmyDuPlantier · 22/06/2025 09:41

Yeah I get that, and I only play for an hour-ish maybe twice a week.

Also it’s about to start pouring here so don’t think anyone will be enjoying their garden much today sadly.

Ah well then - fill your boots! 🤣

Well judging by your name you live very very far away. Although you might still hear me 🤣

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 22/06/2025 14:48

You won't get rational answers here OP - MN hates people making a sound in their garden (unless it's kids screaming playing, then it's fine).

Anything after 10am is fine IMO.

JDM625 · 22/06/2025 15:03

I go by the same guidance for annoying/noisy building works- which is NO noise on a Sunday and bank holidays!

If you aren't sure if your sound proofing is any good- install a dB meter on your phone, set it up by your fence and bang away, check the reading, then move to the other fence, check etc. I installed one on my phone, and it records for about 30secs and gives a reading you can check against other common noises. Whispering, quiet road, jet engine taking off etc. You can check whether the noise is unreasonable and you need more sound proofing or not.

Just because your neighbour also plays the drums or has noisy dogs (which you can report to the council) doesn't mean you need to be a noise nuisance also.

Whilst many would be seething many would be absolutely fine with it for 1 hour or so.
I think the threads seems pretty evenly mixed although I haven't actually tallied the results.
