How to get rid of banana rolls?

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 16:37

I had to Google what they are called! But basically fat under the crescent of your bum cheeks.

I got these in my first pregnancy, despite always being a healthy weight. It's not genetic as nobody else in my family has them. Post pregnancy I got down to BMI 20 to try to get rid of them but they did not budge! I couldn't lose more weight as I had very low body fat at that point and looked quite gaunt (I have a broad frame so this is a low BMI for me).

I've done a lot of work on my glutes and they are stronger but the flipping banana rolls are still there.

Any other ideas? Am I stuck sitting on my bananas for life?

I wish I knew. I’ve had them all my life, inherited from my mother. I never swim for that reason. I should be able to accept them but because I’ve never seen them on anyone else (only read of people having them), I’ve never managed to.

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 20:01

@ArcticBells that's it exactly! I feel they're really unusual and I definitely don't deserve them 😂 Because mine popped up in pregnancy I was hoping the cause was hormonal or something, and lots of people would be along to say "don't worry, they disappear in menopause..."
Did your mum ever get rid of them by any chance?

buy a set of dumbells and try Bulgarian split squats and Romanian deadlifts (google will show you some instruction videos)

ArcticBells · 20/06/2025 20:30

@Mamamorna No I’ve never managed to get rid of them despite extensive exercise. Yours seem to be pregnancy related so maybe will go.

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 21:09

@LowDownBoyStandUpGuy will that actually get rid of the fat deposits though? I have pretty decent glutes already so just making glutes bigger isn't what I need.

Those exercises are the ones I feel the most in that particular area, nothing is going to make the rolls disappear, especially if you are already a healthy weight, you just need to tone them up and lifting the lower glute muscles will help overall.

Stair stepper too probably if you are already a gym member.

Poynsettia · 20/06/2025 21:45

Could it be related to posture . For example is your back more hollow post pregnancy.

LightDrizzle · 20/06/2025 21:58

Fascinated as to how you all know! Is it by touch or have got more than one mirror so you can see your own arse? I don’t think I want to see mine as I suspect banana rolls are the least of its problems.

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 21:59

It could definitely have been caused by bad posture I guess - I tended to tuck my pelvis. Although I can't imagine why that would make me deposit fat there 🤔

You can see it from a side view!

What in the body dysmorphia hell is this fresh new shite to worry about?

Mum2jenny · 20/06/2025 22:03

Now I’m wondering if I have them. How do I tell?

BountifulPantry · 20/06/2025 22:07

I don’t think that exercise is the answer because building muscle won’t get rid of fat. Plus you’re already a really healthy weight.

Liposuction? Or fat freezing? I feel like something cosmetic could work, if you wanted to go down that route.

Plasticwaste · 20/06/2025 22:07

Eat them.

Branleuse · 20/06/2025 22:08

Ooh, another thing we get to feel bad about!

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 22:10

Of course you don't have to feel bad about them! I don't feel bad about them. I just would prefer they weren't there. They're conspicuous in leggings or swimsuits etc and given that I'm pretty toned all over they just seem really out of place iyswim. I'm not trying to encourage other people to hate their bodies.

If you picture a bum, side view, the bum cheek curves inward underneath and then there's quite a sharp angle between bum cheek and thigh. On me, this angle is filled with a fat deposit, about the shape of a banana sitting under my bum cheek! So there is no definition between bum and thigh. It makes your bum look sort of square. I did just google it and the pictures are not anywhere near as obvious as mine.

I get it now, so you're not just describing a saggy arse?

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 22:26

No not at all. I am in my thirties, fit and slim, and until pregnancy I had a normal arse 😁 Then in maybe 3 months I gained this weird fat bit under my bum cheeks.

Thanks, but no, I wouldn't do anything like that.
I was more wondering if anyone knew anything about why they appeared and/or how to get rid of them based on whatever caused them in the first place. A long shot I know!

WhereHasMyPlanetGone · 20/06/2025 22:28

I didn’t know this was a thing and now I’m going to have to go and check whether I’ve got them or not!

NoEffingWay · 20/06/2025 22:28

I started climbing a few years ago and my arse has magically lifted and I overall do not look hideous from behind 😄. Highly recommended for toning ones bottom and it’s an amazing way to stay fit and healthy.

PollyCreo · 20/06/2025 22:29

Pilates might be your friend here, it lifts and tightens your arse like nothing else - makes it point upwards, not out!

ittersbitters · 20/06/2025 22:39

I have never heard of this or think i've seen it

ittersbitters · 20/06/2025 22:40

Just googled it, I pretty sure lots of people have that. The smooth, high, firm rounded buttock is the more unusual butt shape!
