How to get rid of banana rolls?

Mamamorna · 20/06/2025 16:37

I had to Google what they are called! But basically fat under the crescent of your bum cheeks.

I got these in my first pregnancy, despite always being a healthy weight. It's not genetic as nobody else in my family has them. Post pregnancy I got down to BMI 20 to try to get rid of them but they did not budge! I couldn't lose more weight as I had very low body fat at that point and looked quite gaunt (I have a broad frame so this is a low BMI for me).

I've done a lot of work on my glutes and they are stronger but the flipping banana rolls are still there.

Any other ideas? Am I stuck sitting on my bananas for life?

and then there's quite a sharp angle between bum cheek and thigh

But lots of people don't have a sharp angle, people have flat bums and saggy ones!

I have a little fat bulge on my left lower hip, I think it's just came with ageing. Got really fit & skinny & it was still there.

Squats will sort them. Even 20 a day, but regulat

Just googled it, I pretty sure lots of people have that. The smooth, high, firm rounded buttock is the more unusual butt shape!

Agree. It's just a normal type of bum, no?

Probably invented/ named / shamed to sell lipo and fat-busting jabs.

I think this tops the measuring the fanny flaps and getting rid of visible veins in the legs when it's hot

Actually maybe not the fanny flaps.

Seriously, nobody is looking at your arse saying 'look at the size of her banana rolls' man.

How long ago were you pregnant? I think the hormonal imbalance from pregnancy can stick around for 12 months after birth

ToothlessRoadDawg · 21/06/2025 08:11

In the noughties it was the thigh gap now it’s banana rolls lmfao, no one cares about your arse. Why is there always poop like this to make people (women!) feel insecure about themselves, it’s so self obsessed.

Thanks, but no, I wouldn't do anything like that.
I was more wondering if anyone knew anything about why they appeared and/or how to get rid of them based on whatever caused them in the first place. A long shot I know!

Why don’t you ask a personal trainer?

Unfortunately not - I do at least this amount of squats per day, plus lunges and lots of other stuff (pilates based workout). It has made my bum stronger but not got rid of the fat bit.

To the people having a go at me for asking a simple question - don't be unfair. I am not asking anyone else to think anything they don't want to about their own bodies. I am asking a question about my own body. I did say that if you Google banana rolls the pictures are really tame. Mine is much much more obvious than these pictures. It looks really out of place on my body, like something weird that's been stuck on with plasticine. I happily embrace a whole host of less-than-ideal bits of my body. But I draw the line at weird things that other people don't have.

Thank you to the posters who offered advice and ideas.

Firstly, accept that having fat on your bottom with a BMI of 20 is entirely normal and healthy and is definitely not a health issue.

Women should never feel that having a squishy but slim body is something they have to correct. We are designed to have a lot more fat on us than men, especially after having children.

However, weight training or other weight bearing exercise and keeping fit is extremely beneficial, particularly as you get older. I find squats, running, lunges and yoga particularly helpful for leg and gluteals strength.

Even more important after having children is the pelvic platform which will have been under strain when pregnancy and in childbirth.

I would try to change your mindset towards wanting a strong, healthy body and to not worry that parts of it don't match up to some kind of unrealistic beauty standard - probably mostly achieved by airbrushing photos anyway!

I’ve just looked at my arse and the back of my thighs for the first time in years and Holy Moly 😂.

im 47, stone overweight and I’ve aged. Christ.

Ah well, never mind. I definitely have banana rolls 🙈.

to be honest I haven’t let it stop me swimming, I just stick shorts on over the top, I’m more paranoid about my fatty big front bits

Moonlog · 21/06/2025 10:28

I didn’t even know what they were before this thread, which tells me they’re obviously not something I find odd if I’ve seen them on someone 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great something new for women to feel bad about.

I didn’t know this was a thing and now I’m going to have to go and check whether I’ve got them or not!

Same!
