Neighbour has built a pedastal for their bins

Hello lovely people

The title says it all really! The batshit crazy neighbours have spent 2 hrs, slaving away over a patch of weeds, to lay a broken slab for their Wheelie Bins.
They have a drive wide enough.for 2 cars to reverse up together, so lots of room for the bins, never a problem in the years we have lived here, bin out by the decaying railings every week, but now a lovely broken slab and a bin on proud display!
Now their bins have a Pedastal! DH wants to know what makes their bins special, DSIS wonders if our bins will become envious in some way!!!
Just wondered what other batshit things other peoples neighbours have done, that have made you go hmmm.

Why do you care ? What odds is it to you ?

Are you this rude to people in person? What if we turn your own question back on you - why do you care about someone's light-hearted little post, what odds is it to you that you feel you have to slap it down?

Edited as I just noticed your username - I see, you are one of those people who thinks you're much cleverer than everyone else.

OP I thought your post was funny, especially the bit about your bins becoming envious, and the poster who 'has a vegan bin' 😁

My bin has its own little shed. But I haven't kept in there for a year as it was annoying in winter having to dig the snow away to open the door and get to the bin.

Natsku · 18/06/2025 09:59

Though strange things neighbours do, mine have put up a scarecrow right next to their bird feeders. Perhaps they only want the bravest birds to eat.

AmelieSummer25 · 18/06/2025 10:05

Stop being so tight & treat your own buns properly!

AndOnThatTree · 18/06/2025 10:12

This has got to be about me! I spent ages yesterday digging out weeds so I could put a slab pedestal down for my bins! If you are my neighbour… Mow your lawn you scuff bag.

Ha. I paid nearly a grand and had a bin store custome made for my 3 bins 🤣

'nearly a grand' oooh, you cheapskate - should have gone for this one, it's a bargain in the sale!!!

My image is currently under review so you will have to wait unfortunately, it is worth the wait though, it is a very nice bin store 😀

On the subject of neighbours …. I have two pigeons that come into my garden each night aptly named Philip and Camilla, they sometimes perch on neighbours tree which is right against my garden, my shock horror in looking out the window and she’s put up a horribly ugly plastic hawk kite monstrosity, it scare my darling royal pigeons away …

I can’t help but think she must have seen the pigeons and run straight out to buy this. All the while I’m thinking who has the time for this ?
It should be noted it hasn’t worked and if anything they quite like the hawk . So ..

Our bird hating neighbour bought loads of these and lots of shiny stuff to keep the birds away, hasn't worked. We have a blackbird called Bob who we feed 😁

I'd suggest getting a life TBH.

My bins have their own special closed off fenced in space at the side of the house. With flowers and everything. Your neighbours need to up their game!

We do, too. Our bins are behind a half wall in the side return. The walkway to them is resplendent with strawberries in pots, hanging baskets, climbing roses and wonderful ferns that have sprung up by themselves.
Makes the job of taking out the rubbish and putting the bins out a bit more pleasant. Also, nicer outlook for our next door neighbour whose kitchen door looks out over our side return,

PomeloOud · 18/06/2025 10:27

*Pedestal. And it sounds like a slab, rather than a pedestal.

Cant see what’s noteworthy or amusing about this?

Our 3 bins have a bespoke storage area with a concrete base and masonry sides.

How very Darwinian. Do report back...

My three bins share one large umbrella which I open on hot days. They also have their own two pet Budgies in a cage swinging on a pedestal beside them.

HollyBerryz · 18/06/2025 10:35

Well my bins have just read this and now they're sulking with me because they don't have a pedestal. Thanks op!

CrystalSingerFan · 18/06/2025 10:36

I'm interested in people's bin store experiences. (My bins currently sit on gravel.)

Why don't garden centres stock bin stores? Lots of options online, but I'd like to see what I'm buying IRL. Should I be going somewhere else? B&Q? I live in East Devon, if there are local recommendations. Or indeed if anyone wants to explain why my local council doesn't do kerbside glass recycling - how daft is that?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 18/06/2025 10:41

I keep my bins in my garage so they don’t get rained or darked on.

Dontdoitdoreen · 18/06/2025 10:42

I think you've stretched the definition of pedestal a bit. I was expecting some sort of altar or bin shrine. But no, it's just a slab. Very misleading OP. 😞

'darked on'! Love it.

Please give this poster a small Mumsnet prize. 😂

HappyLimeHiker · 18/06/2025 10:57

My neighbours have lined up every pair of shoes they own and proudly display them on the shelf of their entirely glass front porch. I call it The Shoe Museum 🤣

Ooh, are you a personal trainer and is this Glutes Week? Grin

AwakeNotThruChoice · 17/06/2025 17:07

Mine are on slabs. As it’s easier to sweep the area. As sometimes bits fly out of the bins when they’re opened. We have 3 bins if you’re interested.

We have 4, around the back where the trades people go. Such a big garden the gardener needs two bins. (😊) Oh! I think they have a little grey thing for food scraps.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/06/2025 11:02

You’d hate us. Ours are the only bins proudly displayed at the front of our house up against the garage. They look beautiful 👌

InMyOpenOnion · 18/06/2025 11:13

My bins have their own little wooden house. Now thinking of installing a TV and maybe a PlayStation for them. They do a lot of waiting around...

TheDandyLion · 18/06/2025 11:31

My wheelie bins have their own hut with bifold doors and a green roof and the recycling crates have a pull out drawers.
