How much for a weeks self catering

What would you pay for a week self catering on the Lake District? First week in Sept and no WiFi.

You'd have to pay me to stay somewhere with no WiFi!

reluctantbrit · 15/06/2025 17:13

I wouldn't book it, sorry, Wifi is a standard nowadays.

TheChosenTwo · 15/06/2025 17:14

How many bedrooms and what kind of amenities?
We need to sleep 5 in 4 bedrooms and want wifi, dishwasher, nice house, log burner or fire aswell as regular heating, so usually around 2Kish. But could be a lot less and could be a lot more, so many variables!

Notaripoff · 15/06/2025 17:15

Would not go somewhere with no WiFi. As to what I'd pay it would entirely depend on the size and finish/quality of the accommodation. Lots of variables to take into account.

Tripthelightfantastical · 15/06/2025 17:33

It has all of those but no WiFi. Actually, I find that really restful.

How many does the property sleep? Is it top of the range, or basic accommodation and where in the Lake District is it.
If it’s any help, my parents have just returned from a weeks stay in what I would describe as an up market 2 bed apartment with excellent wi-fi, a car parking space and uninterrupted harbour views in Cornwall and paid just over £1000 which is the standard price for a property of this type sleeping 4 at this time of the year.
I assume that self catering accommodation in the Lake District is similarly priced if it’s a popular area

Tripthelightfantastical · 15/06/2025 17:45

It sleeps 8 . It is a really nice property .

OP posts:
Sgtmajormummy · 15/06/2025 17:49

In that period I would aim for under £80 per night for a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom rural property.
Have a look at cottages.com to get an idea.
Is it your own property, OP? In that case it needs to be free of all personal objects and have high standard linen etc. to justify professional prices. It would also need to pass a safety inspection (smoke alarm, fire blanket, extinguishers) if you’re offering it to the public.
If you’re dealing with friends and family, £35-50 per night is reasonable to cover costs.
WIFI is a necessity for most people IMO.
Edit: for 8 I’d double the price and expect 2 bathrooms or 2+WC.

Tripthelightfantastical · 15/06/2025 17:53

I’m renting it not letting it out!

I've just popped it in to Booking com for 4 bedrooms 8 adults, self catering 1st week in September and it comes in at anything from 1k to 8k. But mostly around the 1.5k to 2.5k.

Have you booked something in particular or looking for suggestions?

If you give how many adults/kids and how many rooms you need and give a rough budget then maybe people can make suggestions if that's what you are after.

The true meaning of a holiday, access to the internet on your phone.. 😂

Sgtmajormummy · 15/06/2025 18:18

From £500 for a mobile home to £1800 for a vicarage (4 adults 4 children) here on cottages.com

https://www.cottages.com/search?adult=4&child=4&infant=0&pets=0&range=0&nights=7&accommodationType=cottages&placesId=39997&regionName=Lake+District&start=30-08-2025&size=24&page=1&sort=pricedsc

UndermyShoeJoe · 15/06/2025 18:27

I just checked haven and the cheapest is £355 for a week upto 1.4k. So thinking on that a nice cottage with log burner maybe £700-1k as you don’t have the other facilities that places like haven over charge for such as swimming.

I do understand why people scoff about wanting WiFi on holidays but I find it handy for doing really basic things like checking weather forecasts, finding nice walks, looking for a good restaurant, booking activities for the next day if the weather is looking favourable etc.
To be fair we all have unlimited data so the wifi isn’t actually the essential bit for us but we do need signal at the very least!

Well yes but that's not in the Lakes - and in the Lakes location is the main thing. You don't want to be stuck at the arse end of Newby Bridge in a static caravan.

For a week in Sept outside of school hols, for 8 people, up to £1.5k feels about right. In school hols it gets really nuts. We can't afford cottages any more for that reason, and camp instead.

I just put Lake District haven in 😅 no idea exactly where abouts within the area.

A good point well raised. I take it back.

No need to take it back really, I know some people really appreciate the opportunity to be properly switched off and disconnected. Plus I obviously will use it for scrolling MN during some downtime so it’s not all for practical reasons 😂😂😂
But I do think sometimes people overlook the practical requirement of why WiFi is considered ‘essential’ even when it may not be. So I appreciate that you came back to comment ☺️

How refreshing to see poster's playing nicely and being courteous.

rookiemere · 16/06/2025 07:26

It depends how many bedrooms- sleeps 8 is a bit vague if 2 of those are in the hall, and where it is - i.e. centre of Bowness will cost more than 3 miles away from nearest pub, oh and if there is parking included.
If it’s 3 bed in the centre of a village with parking, I would say it would be at least £1000 as September is popular with those without school age DC.

reluctantbrit · 16/06/2025 08:07

Sleeping 8 means the owner hopes for a larger group and that may include children and teens. We had the unfortunate experience that no WiFi often also means spotty mobile reception and that would definitely be a problem.

no internet may be ok for a couple trying to relax and destress but for a family I think that’s it really suitable.

Tripthelightfantastical · 16/06/2025 08:17

It’s just for the two of us . The house has four bedrooms . The area has no mobile reception but a landline. It is a lovely house in an area I really like . I’ve been there before. It just seems self indulgent to spend so much on two people! We have been with two others in the past.

Not sure I understand the question

You pay what the market says. There are plenty of places on Booking. com and other sites - so you can see the prices.

And what I would pay would vary to what you would pay - and how much you want the holiday. And of course, the location.

If you can afford it and you want to go, then go...

I think it would have been more helpful to have said this from the beginning. Then you would probably have had replies along the lines of of you can afford it, go and enjoy yourself.

Why do you think you don't deserve to indulge yourself?

I hope you go and have a lovely time. Bit I also hope they get WiFi 😁

You haven’t actually said how much it is !
