The inside of my body is shaking.

This is really odd, but over the last few months I’ve noticed what I can only describe as the inside of my body shaking. It’s been happening when I am in bed and relaxing to go to sleep. To begin with I thought it was DH snoring but it happened when he was away. Then I thought it might be the tube, I’m in London and the underground goes nearly underneath my house. But I’ve just experienced the feeling when I’ve been standing up and not at home.

I can’t go to the GP and say my inside bones are shaking, can I? Do I just pretend it’s not happening?

And I was going to go to the GP as I’m menopausal, no period for over a year, but have had period pain and what felt like ovulation. This has been followed by a huge bloated stomach that looks like I’m 7 months pregnant.

Will they think I’ve got health anxiety if I go with both? I don’t think I do, but I’ve had done pretty serious illnesses in my time and I wonder if I do have it now!

I get this. I have tachycardia and palpitations due to hyperparathyroidism and when my calcium and parathyroid goes high and my phosphate goes low they get really bad.

Hi @Hollyhobbi I've just read your post. I've not heard if anyone else with parathyroid issues before. My heart monitoring also came back with tackycardia, my calcium & phosphate levels were out too.

do you have any advice? Suggestions? Recommendations?

Ihad2Strokes · 02/11/2025 16:07

im going to have to read the thread again tomorrow, I'm now more sure this is to do with my parathyroid than my stroke.

i think maybe my best bet is to push my GP for a referral to an endocrinologist.

unless anyone has a better suggestion.

Make sure your gp checks your calcium and phosphate levels by requesting a bone profile blood test. Vitamin D is often low as well so that should be tested along with parathyroid hormone from the one blood draw. I have had two DVTs caused by primary parathyroidism. Other people in the help group I belong too have had suspected strokes and blood clots in their lungs.

I have fibromyalgia and I vibrate inside, particularly when I’ve over done it. My understanding is that it’s a sign of a overstimulated nervous system. Menopause did make it worse.

@Hollyhobbi

thank you, they have all been tested. I had vit D high dose earlier in the year, it's more in range now. I had a stroke in January.

Sept blood tests:

serum calcium 2.55 (no guide number)
serum adjusted calcium 2.63 (2.2-2.6)

serum inorganic phosphate .82 (.8-1.5)
serum alkaline phosphate .98 (30-130)

parathyroid 10.6 (1.6-7.2)

vit D 76 (50-200)

any thoughts on those?

Is there any advice on how to calm the nervous system down that's worked for you?

It looks like primary hyperparathyroidism to me. I can give you the name of a facebook group I’m in as the first surgery I had didn’t take out enough glands and I need another operation with an expert surgeon who I found through the site?

Has anyone found anything that helps.with this? I'm not overdoing caffeine or eating sugary things and am not dehydrated but this tremoron my side under my breast is there pretty constantly. Worse when tired or stressed. The physical.sensation is actually making the rest of my body/mind streesed even though I feel calm and am trying to ignote it..its so tiring.

No, I'm still struggling with it. I finally have an appointment with an endocrinologist. If I find out anything helpful I'll report back!!

DancingLions · 16/06/2026 11:00

I started getting this during peri. Weirdly I never get it at night, it's only if I go for a nap during the day. I've learnt to just lean into it and now I actually find it quite relaxing! I know it means I'm on the verge of sleep when it starts up. I did ask one GP about it once but she didn't seem to know what I was talking about!

Boriswentcamping · 16/06/2026 11:03

overactive thyroid?

PossiblyPertunia · 16/06/2026 11:31

I have this, it's anxiety/stress response.

ThePalla · 16/06/2026 11:53

I have this too. If I’m very relaxed and do breathing excercises, it softens and slows down. Sometimes it’s frenetic like a washing machine. I’ve had it for years and initially felt I was going crazy.
Having read this thread, I’m thinking perhaps I should shell out a few hundred quid to get some tests done? If I ask my gp, it will take forever and I think they will offer me anti anxiety meds or something, that I don’t really want to deal with.

Ive had this. I also thought it was the trains that run past my house until it happened when i was at my mums house too! I have hypothyroid and was in type 2 diabetes at the time. It passed. But its not an unusual symptoms so your doctor will know how to proceed.

krikon · 16/06/2026 12:29

Long term stress and anxiety that has deeply embedded in my nervous system has done this to me. Internal shaking. Constant fight or flight state and chronic adrenaline/cortisol responses. It’s also resulted in AF and irregular heart beats

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 16/06/2026 12:31

A body buzzing or vibrating sensation (often called an internal tremor or paresthesia) is usually a sign of a hyperactive or stressed nervous system. It is most frequently linked to anxiety, high stress, sleep deprivation, or too much caffeine. Less commonly, it can signal a nutritional deficiency, hormonal shift, or nerve compression.

That's interesting. I'm going to see the Endocrinologist soon, so hopefully they'll be running thise tests anyway. I'll see.

Blueuggboots · 16/06/2026 16:09

Internal tremors are a menopause symptom. I would be concerned about the bloating.

I have it 24/7 & it's not the slightest bit relaxing, it's like restless legs but the entire right hand side of my body.

DaftNoodle · 16/06/2026 16:24

I had this and it was an over active thyroid , ask your GP to check your thyroid levels
