First ever Easyjet flight - top tips please

I'm going to Tenerife in July and I normally fly long haul on airlines like BA, Emirates etc. but this one is Easyjet short haul. Our tickets include under seat bags and suitcases but I'm flying with another adult so we haven't reserved seats.

I've got the Easyjet app. Tell me anything I might need to know that I haven't thought of, please!

Calm down OP - it’s really not that big of a deal! 🙈 To be fair, I wouldn’t choose EasyJet as they’re often unreliable but it’s cheap and gets you from A to B. More than sufficient for short haul. You’re obviously aware of their lower hand luggage restrictions - that’s the only difference. Otherwise you check in, drop bags and board like any other airline.

They can be very strict with handluggage so definitely be careful.
The food and drink is expensive so bring your own.

Soontobe60 · 12/06/2025 17:30

Never been on a bad EasyJet flight yet, nor a bad Ryanair one for that matter!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 12/06/2025 17:32

Think of it as a bus with wings.

WasherWoman25 · 12/06/2025 17:33

I’ve never had an issue with EasyJet and flown with them a lot. I’ve found their planes more comfortable than the standard tour operators like TUI & Jet2.

Short haul will be different from long haul, but that’s the same even with BA etc.

They can be strict with hand luggage sizes and checked in weights so make sure you’ve read that properly.

Check in as soon as check opens and you should get seated together, I’ve not known them intentionally seat people apart like Ryan Air.

ChestnutSquash · 12/06/2025 17:34

Measure your hand luggage and weigh your case. That's it really.

HeddaGarbled · 12/06/2025 17:35

Don’t plan on eating on the plane: it’s expensive and not very nice.

You’ll be crammed in and it will all look a bit scruffy compared to what you’re used to.

The staff will be up and down the aisle selling lottery tickets and gifts and what-not more or less continuously.

The gates tend to be the remotest so be prepared for long walks to the gates and to often be queuing to board down gloomy staircases.

I’ve used EasyJet frequently and it’s fine.

Scorchio84 · 12/06/2025 17:37

Pretty much what everyone has said, snacks & a blanket but other than that enjoy yourself

Azureshores · 12/06/2025 17:38

Take antiseptic wipes to wipe down your seat, tray etc - they rarely clean between flights as they have such a tight turnaround.

Have a good wee before you get on as the last one we went on the seatbelt light was on for most of the flight and only one of the toilets was in use (maybe they couldn't be arsed cleaning it). And don't drink anything for the same reason 😂

Weve been on lots of budget airline flights and they're generally fine but you do get what you pay for! ie. Nowt.

Azureshores · 12/06/2025 17:39

Oh and be prepared for people to possibly clap when the plane lands...

McCartneyOnTheHeath · 12/06/2025 17:42

The seats don't recline, which is brilliant.

Tina294 · 12/06/2025 18:22

Personally I'd rather fly Easyjet than BA, BA have gone to shit IMO. It'll just be like any other flight you go on Op but no food or blanket. We get a Pret before we get on.

With Easyjet unlike a lot of other airlines including crappy BA you can check in way in advance, check in as soon as it opens to have the best chance of getting seats together for free.

pontivex · 12/06/2025 19:09

Sharp elbows
Noise cancelling headphones
Dont get on hungry or thirsty
Low expectations

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/06/2025 19:11

The tuna roll is better than the pizza imo
if you get a gin and tonic, the Bombay sapphire comes in a little miniature, which is cute.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 12/06/2025 19:12

Blimey, the snobbery on this thread!! easyJet are fine.

Sauvignonblanket · 12/06/2025 19:14

Never any ice or chilled drinks, don't get your hopes up when the trolley comes round

Oilofeveningprimrose · 12/06/2025 19:17

Easyjet is my preferred airline for shorthaul flights. Much less scruffy than BA and seats feel more comfortable. Obviously it won't be anything like a long haul flight but neither would a BA short haul flight.

RainBow725 · 12/06/2025 19:39

I recently flew back from the Canaries with EasyJet and it was great. Big new plane. Plenty of legroom. No problem with hand luggage. Food cheaper on the flight than food in Lanzarote airport which was extortionate.

TheDogsMother · 12/06/2025 19:56

Don’t pay to choose seats if you are travelling as a couple. Just wait until online check in, up to 30 days in advance and seats will be allocated together. We’ve traveled on EasyJet many, many times and never been separated.

pudseypie · 12/06/2025 19:57

Having flown to Tenerife recently on Easyjet, it was the other passengers who made it a less than enjoyable experience, not Easyjet! Bit rowdy and lots of noise. Not what i've typically experienced on Easyjet but it was my first time doing that particular route. I'd second the suggestion of taking food and drink on with you, have a good film downloaded onto one of your personal devices and stick headphones in and watch that!

eurochick · 12/06/2025 20:11

EasyJet are perfectly fine. Just check your hand luggage complies with the rules and you will be fine.

For any airline I tend to buy Pret or similar at the airport rather than buy food on the plane. Partly because it is usually awful and also because I am dairy intolerant so sometimes I can’t eat any of it.

CheeseWisely · 12/06/2025 20:12

I’ve flown with easyJet tons and never had an issue at all. BA on the other hand…. Hmm

Just stick to their rules and you’ll be grand. Check in as soon as you can (30 days ahead) and chances are you’ll be sat together anyway.

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 12/06/2025 21:07

Always had good flight with EJ!! Much better than BA. Check in early. The bags bit is fine. Staff friendly. Flex back couple of weeks ago. Spacious and clean. We ended up buying food on plane due to timing and yes was a big pricy but the food fine. Ham
toastie and porridge would be my suggestion if you need something. Baggage always fine.

Vargas · 12/06/2025 21:17

Well I think BA better than EasyJet, but easyJet fine as long as you don’t dream of breaking any of their luggage size/weight rules. Note - If you’re just taking carryon you’ll be lucky to get space above your own seat unless you’re first in the queue at the gate. And I always book seats in advance, as I like the emergency exit seats with extra leg room.

StartingOverInMy40s · 12/06/2025 21:23

Honestly, never had an issue with easyJet. They get you to the same place with more spending money in your pocket.
