What do you think about him?

OP posts:

Saw him yesterday in Co-op stealing kitten food. Make of that what ye will.

🤣

Wait what?? Mock what/whom?? Ah here this is absurd.. "oh no someone, an anonymous stranger online is using a laughter emoji as a mocking tool about me???" ah jaysus..massive eyeroll before that gets banned next

It’s actually quite horrible when it happens to you because no one else can see it. People can use it to make it clear that they are laughing at you. Because it’s private it feelsnincredibly personal and creepy. It’s amazing how close the virtual world is to the real one. I wouldn’t have imagined that you could be made to feel upset by something like that.

I have never reported anyone who did this to me by the way - I didn’t think to do so, but I am glad the emoji is gone.

There's a thread in site stuff about it. Mostly on topic areas like baby names. People using it to belittle posters on non-jokey posts. I don't know how widespread it was but obviously significant enough for MN to feel that it was worthy of deleting the reaction entirely.

Ah cool thanks.. I know it makes little difference but it's interesting to know, also the Baby Names forums is a bit of a pick n'mix of comments, it's like don't ask questions you don't want the answers to on a public forum

I understand in a way what you mean, like if you're already upset & someone laughs (😆) it might feel incredibly personal but it could be as a way of expressing a lighter opinion, not as an attack, I also believe in free emojis & I don't tend to take shit personally, maybe once or twice but in general it seems wasteful

Also sometimes people are nasty cunts so who gets to decide? Apparently the emoji police

You can tell when they are laughing at you rather than with you. It really is horrible.

Way too invested in this thread. WHERE ARE YOU, OP???????

Busy working on the next philosophical debate.

“What do you think of Denise Welch’s cleaner?” (Apologies to anyone who may actually be Denise Welch’s cleaner).

cantthinkofausername26 · 12/06/2025 19:03

And the point of this thread is……?

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/06/2025 19:06

HAB75 · 12/06/2025 17:29

I'm a musician, so that's a very normal term. How else can it be interpreted? I'm properly scratching my head here - I just can't imagine. Put me out of my (innocent? daft?) misery.

Och, I'm glad bassists are considered normal nowadays. I, myself, had bassist friends back in the 80s and 90s. It wasn't an easy time for them then, I'm glad attitudes are changing.☺️

I'm not in contact with any of them now though. But yeah, they were lovely.

Anyway, I don't want to come across as bassist-ist on this thread. One of my friends actually knew a double-bassist.😲

She was a lovely friend☺️

It was a long time ago. We're not in contact now.

PomeloOud · 12/06/2025 19:06

Our kids were really little when the album ‘twelve stops and home’ was released and it’s one of the soundtracks to their primary school years. They still love it.

Nothing.

Next!

Drew79 · 12/06/2025 17:57

I've no idea who he is, but I'm very jealous of him 😆

I saw Sophie once when she was in a band called Theaudience, playing a small gig in Manchester in 1998, and I was stood just a few feet in front of her.. it was amazing!

I too saw Sophie in theaudience at a festival, only went to the second stage because of remembering her mum in Blue Peter, and thought the band were a bit too earnest. Never expected the career that has followed.

The Feeling I saw as a support act and thought much better live than on record.

Are you aiming for a most obscure question of the day thread?

If it is...
She's the winner!

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/06/2025 19:35

The Feeling I saw as a support act and thought much better live than on record.

I think they're brilliant live, far more rock than pop.

But I have no views on RJ, unless it turns out he pulled off the legs of spiders as a kid or something along those lines.

NetballHoop · 12/06/2025 10:32

Oddly enough, I saw him yesterday feeding a litter of starving kittens that had been dumped just behind the Co-op.

Weirdly, I saw him dumping a litter of kittens behind Co-op a couple of days back.

At least he threw a dirty stained mattress down first so the kittens had somewhere to sleep

Mistyglade · 12/06/2025 19:38

Don't worry, you might improve with age

Cheeky

He stole it from a homeless person.

My brain hurts trying to figure out the point of this thread

notprincehamlet · 12/06/2025 19:44

And the point of this thread is……?
To distract us all from putting out the bins.
OK that might just be me.

namechangeGOT · 12/06/2025 19:44

What do I think about him? I think he must have the patience of a saint to have to contend with Sophie’s wailing in the kitchen. Also, very fertile.

daisychain01 · 12/06/2025 19:54

isthismylifenow · 12/06/2025 10:41

I feel a drip feed coming on....

I feel a disappearing act going on ....

PennyAnnLane · 12/06/2025 19:55

I think he’s punching above his weight and that also that he probably wanted a daughter.

butterpuffed · 12/06/2025 12:20

Has MN said why it's been removed ? I miss it too .

I don't have any emojis... I left for several years and in the meantime everything changed. I didn't know that there ever had been emojis except my phone's own 🫤🤕🤣😎🫣😝😁🤔🏯☀️🪻

Do I get emojis after a certain time, or are they for people who pay?

TabbyCatInAPoolofSunshine · 12/06/2025 20:02

I only know Sophie Ellis Baxter from Radio 2, I don't know anything about her beyond her kitchen disco radio programme, I didn't know she did a TV version in lockdown or that her husband was on it (why was he? because he happened to be in her kitchen?) or even that she had a husband...

Was this thread actually designed to raise interest and awareness in and of this husband? I guess it worked as some of us have learnt trivia about him - I'm not sure who that's useful to though...

What do you think of my nextdoor neighbours? Why do they have exactly the same conversation in the guardian every evening?

Awww
Sophie Ellis Bextor
i remember her being born
and her mum being sacked from
Blue Peter for being pregnant and unmarried 😮

That was Janet Ellis’s other child. She was married - just to someone other than SEB’s father!
