New money ? https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/155342741#/?channel=RES_BUY and

Old money ? https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/157309022#/?channel=RES_BUY or https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/158669516#/?channel=RES_BUY

By old money do we mean long established incredibly wealthy families ? The antiques and nic nacs, very much stately home in London kind of thing but still comfortable and homely in a grand kind of way ?
And new money, earned in the city, blingy, loud, cold looking ?

Check out this 14 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

I think you’re right! But I do love both of them and actually, new money impresses me more: it means they are more likely to have earned it

MellowPinkDeer · 10/06/2025 08:50

Neither are really my style tbh.

MiddleAgedDread · 10/06/2025 09:19

The 2nd one is beautiful. 1st one will look better without their stuff in it!

YosoyEduardo · 10/06/2025 09:20

Agree with you OP. My preference would be the second house.

Newnamesagain · 10/06/2025 09:22

I think even the one I don't really like has amazing floors which means a lick of paint and a few antiques and they're much of a muchness. Cabochon marble doesn't really go out of style.

smallglassbottle · 10/06/2025 09:49

I don't like either of them. The old one is predictable and cliched and the new one has no personality, is predictable and tasteless. They're both boring and try hard.

I prefer something tasteful, arty and cosy.

But they could have won it. Or earned it by exploiting or bullying others.

I am not impressed by any type of money.

I agree,.old money isn't any better or worse than new money, but worshiping either is quite odd

ZImono · 10/06/2025 10:26

Weirdly on first glance not THAT jazzed on either of them.

On second there's more to like about new money house tbh.
Location, garden, outbuildings etc

Edit:Just realised there are 4 links 😅

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 10/06/2025 10:33

No 1 for me anytime. If £25,000000 + would like to pop into my bank account I will put in an offer !

Passwordsaremynemesis · 10/06/2025 10:35

For that money I don’t really like any of them that much. The Belize Park one looks like The Priory! Really old properties give me the horrors as I couldn’t be arsed with the constant maintenance, but if I had that cash I would keep my house in Oz, and buy another in Italy, and maybe a pied à terre in London. A girl can dream, eh?

Doncarlos · 10/06/2025 10:38

I hate them all but then I fall into the No Money category.

ItsUpToYou · 10/06/2025 10:41

I don’t really like any of them to be honest; the “new money” ones look OTT for my personal style (I prefer a minimalist look) whereas something about Old Money makes me feel a bit nauseous. I just know there’s a nasty colonial history lurking Old Money closets…

TheAmusedQuail · 10/06/2025 10:44

Neither. They're both too much, in entirely different ways.

All the flash and glitter of new money is too much. Vulgar. Ostentatious. The staircase is horrific. Can't stand manufactured gardens.
All. The. Panelling. of old money is just urgh. So much dusting! Too dingy. Quite like the garden.

I think the new money would be my preference if it was pared back, to clinically plain. But as it is, no thanks.

Chewbecca · 10/06/2025 10:49

How has noone yet mentioned the SHEEP! There are sheep in the garden in central London!!
Or what am I seeing?!

Schoolchoicesucks · 10/06/2025 10:51

What are the sheep doing there?

Schoolchoicesucks · 10/06/2025 10:51

Ah x post!

SarfLondonLad · 10/06/2025 10:54

Old money would not be seen dead in London NW3.

The rule is SW postal district, low, odd, numbers only.

You’re right: they could have done/

im slightly irritated by the old money worship online at the moment; mostly on instagram but sometimes rears its head on here

Giggorata · 10/06/2025 11:06

I love the exteriors of the “new money” houses but would have to spend so much on changing (restoring) the interiors, they wouldn't be worth it.

I could happily live in either of the “old money” houses, as the interiors are preferable, if a bit safe. My horrible old tat would soon alter that.

CuddlesKovinsky · 10/06/2025 11:13

I want one of those pillared Georgian bus shelters at the end of the Old Money garden... what would you call a thing like that? My cat would LOVE it... 😻

Fairyvocals · 10/06/2025 11:19

Not necessarily old or new money. I had a friend who lived in Church Row. Her parents bought the house in the 60s, when prices were normal and Hampstead wasn’t the rich ghetto it is now. They certainly weren’t loaded, though they would be if they sold their house now!

alwaystimeforteatime · 10/06/2025 11:22

The second 'new money' house is really ugly imo... BUT IT HAS SHEEP IN THE GARDEN!! I want a garden with sheep!!

JasmineAllen · 10/06/2025 11:23

I definitely prefer the 'old money' decor. Lots of warm, inviting colours, fabrics and natural wood.
The 'new money' houses interior decor is awful IMO. The first house with lots of white looks especially difficult to live in.

I'm not sure the difference is as much to do with old and new money as having good and bad taste (which are obviously subjective).

alwaystimeforteatime · 10/06/2025 11:23

Also, I'm not sure this is 'new money' vs 'old money' – I think it's more generational. I imagine the second two properties are being sold by older people, and the first two are being sold by younger (who might have inherited their wealth or earned it)
