New money ? https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/155342741#/?channel=RES_BUY and

Old money ? https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/157309022#/?channel=RES_BUY or https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/158669516#/?channel=RES_BUY

By old money do we mean long established incredibly wealthy families ? The antiques and nic nacs, very much stately home in London kind of thing but still comfortable and homely in a grand kind of way ?
And new money, earned in the city, blingy, loud, cold looking ?

Check out this 14 bedroom detached house for sale on Rightmove

I only like the Church Row one. My dad used to live in Hampstead and he’s common as muck 😬

Dont really like the first one but id have any of the other 3 and just sort them to my taste.
Love the wood panneling on old money number 2.

That said, i don't see much point in having a luxe house if its ruined by being in London 😂

Also, I'm not sure this is 'new money' vs 'old money' – I think it's more generational. I imagine the second two properties are being sold by older people, and the first two are being sold by younger (who might have inherited their wealth or earned it)

Yep. I don’t think any of them look like “old money”, more like older/younger “new money”. It looks like they all bought their furniture 😂 Those are not family heirlooms.

borogovia · 10/06/2025 11:47

I don't think these look genuinely old money, someone's thought 'OK for this look we need panelling and chintz'. It's supposed to look like your family portraits, books and stuff that's been collected over several generations of people with taste and money, and the result can be quite shabby and comfortable.

Poynsettia · 10/06/2025 11:59

Old stately homes don’t have white walls

FluffykinsTheFerociousFeralFelineFury · 10/06/2025 12:19

Eight figures for a corner plot without, so far as I can see, any off-street parking?

DryDay · 10/06/2025 12:35

I don’t like either.
First/ new money is too ritzy-glitzy for me
Second/ old money is like a time-warp

@Bitchesbelike
is right though. Good for those people who have grafted to earn their money. It seems diabolical to me that old money (inherited privilege) should be put on any sort of a pedestal. The achievements of the new money mob are far greater.

MsRinky · 10/06/2025 12:43

Those first two look like they've been furnished from the clearance section of TK Maxx.

fruitbrewhaha · 10/06/2025 12:47

The first one is like something from The Kardashians.

RosesAndHellebores · 10/06/2025 12:55

I don't particularly like any of them. They have the added disadvantage of being in Hampstead as far as I am concerned.

There's nothing serene or gentle or particularly elegant about any of them.

Benshawsberries · 10/06/2025 13:00

I’ll take the third one thanks, just waiting for the £18 million to hit my bank when I get paid

Thelostjewels · 10/06/2025 13:17

I didn't worship any money why do People project such stage ideas.

I think between old and new old is obviously classic, statement in it's open right end won't go out it fashion, new is fashionable and therefore open to critique.

ungratefulcat · 10/06/2025 13:20

Bitchesbelike · 10/06/2025 11:06

You’re right: they could have done/

im slightly irritated by the old money worship online at the moment; mostly on instagram but sometimes rears its head on here

Yes. That's fair. I find old money worship silly, particularly when a lot of "old money" was founded on the slave trade.

I just find new money worship silly too, when we know lots of people get rich from unscrupulous business practices, lottery wins, house prices rocketing, etc

BristolDolly22 · 10/06/2025 13:31

When I win the Euro lottery I’m going for the second “new money” house…mainly for the pool.

i also liked the first old money house though, it looks cosy.

I'd love to live in Hampstead!

Kuretake · 10/06/2025 13:49

First one looks more European than new money to me.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 10/06/2025 13:51

Money is money. Who cares if it’s old or new?

GiveDogBone · 10/06/2025 18:43

Both just down the road from me! Personally, I don’t like wood panels, brown furniture, etc I prefer the cleaner fresher look of modern design, so very much the new money one.
