I was out today with the family for a day out to an aquarium then lunch.
Just before we got there i managed to fall due to uneven pavement.
My ankle turned and I feel like I've hopefully only badly sprained it.
I also managed to fall onto one knee and my chest.
I didn't even manage to put my hands down.
Now my ribs hurt and my ankle has doubled in size.
I hobbled round the aquarium and lunch.
But I feel so embarrassed I literally went splat on the pavement!!
What stupid accidents have you had?

Please go and get it checked out.
Ive honestly had so many stupid injuries!!
i’ve fallen on wet floor while out for a carvery-I was holding my then 3yr olds hand and some how took her out on the way down and landed completely on top of her-she still mentions the day I tried to flatten her 😂
i’ve fallen down some foam steps in a soft play place and had to get my ankle X-rayed as it was agony and huge.
I tore my meniscus getting off the sofa, I was having a race with the kids seeing who could get upstairs and in pjs before the adverts finished. This led to 3 months off work as I couldn’t walk 🙈 and the day I went back on fazed return I fell over onto a metal manhole cover and smashed my other knee to pieces, that knee cap is now permanently triangular 😫

I've got foot drop at the moment and a very weak leg. I keep forgetting and keep finding myself on the floor! Most recently when I wanted to hurry across the road before the green man went off, as soon as my right foot made contact with the ground I was down, right in the middle of the highstreet.

Two weeks ago I fell whilst right in front of my favourite band ever, crouched to tie my shoelace and don't have the power in my leg to hoik myself back up, so fell straight down onto my hands and knees.

Aside from the back causing so much bloody issues with weakness I've got essential tremor that affects my legs, which means I fall over at the best of times.

Tripped over in the school playground and broke my elbow.

I was the teacher 🙈.

Frlrlrubert · 07/06/2025 19:43

I was crossing a Sainsbury’s car park when I got the lace hook at the top of one boot caught on the lace of the other boot. I went straight down in the middle of the little zebra crossing. Skinned hands and knees, ripped tights, glasses skittered about 10ft.

Trod on a rake. Proper Beano injury.

TheNightingalesStarling · 07/06/2025 19:54

DHs recent A&E visits...

Tripped over his boots. Broke several ribs.
Kicked a bag (accidentally). Dislocated toe.
Dropped his phone on his face in bed. Broken tooth.
Sledging. Broke 2 fingers.

TheNightingalesStarling · 07/06/2025 19:55

Oh and split his head open when weeding the garden and forgetting he was below an open window.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/06/2025 19:57

Cleaning a big knife with a dish cloth - wiped down the blade but not from the back - that was fun!

JustMeAndTheFish · 07/06/2025 20:03

I tripped over my coal bucket (dumped in the kitchen as I had to stir my chutney) and took a chunk out of my calf. Went to A&E but it didn’t heal and two days before Christmas ended up with compression bandages. Eight weeks and two holidays later (with my adult DC .. they never knew) the bandages came off and it was healed…. Not pretty but hoping it will improve.

dimples76 · 07/06/2025 20:03

I would get that checked (as someone with metal work in her ankle after a fall).

My most embarrassing fall was at a swimming pool watching my son's swimming lesson. The parents were all sitting in a gallery. My DS (who has SEN) was getting distressed so I got up to go down to him. I was probably rushing as I was anxious to get to him. Unfortunately, the trousers I was wearing were a bit long to wear without heels and I was barefoot. As I climbed the steps/seats my foot got caught in the bottom of my trousers. As I fell (which really did feel like it was in slow motion) I had my hands out to save me. Horrifying moment when I realised that my hand was going to land on one of the dad's crotch.

Ooh I’ve done that too. Once. The only time in my life I’ve ever seen stars!

TigerRag · 07/06/2025 20:05

I can trip over absolutely everything including thin air. Out for a run one morning on the smoothest tarmac around here and tripped head butting the pavement. I had to hobble past a closed minor injury centre

Tripped over a tree route one morning. I can't believe how painful it was. Couldn't bend my knee for a few days

Managed to smack my head (it's perfect height) on Thursday. I'd washed my coffee machine and didn't look where I was going!

It only, somehow took me until 30 to break a bone. I was getting on a train and misjudged the gap which I fell through.

MixedBananas · 07/06/2025 20:07

HCP here.
If you are able to bear weight on it for more then 10 steps it is not broken! Well it could be a tiny break. The only way I was taught by my lecturer was if you apply pressue and the pain doesnt fade and geta worse then it is broken. A sprain or soft tissue under pressure the pain fades away. A broken. You can have tiny fractures at the base of the ankle with the worse of the bending. Keep an eye on it.

It many have been better to land on chest as weight distributed. A rib fracture is much better then a wrist / hand fracture If you land on out stretched hands you can end up with one or double wrist fractures and they are nasty.

itsmeafterall · 07/06/2025 20:27

I was shaking my wet, just washed ,cargo trousers-ones with a drawstring bottom- when I managed to whip myself in the face.

Cut and spilt lip. Creases in the trousers may have been preferable

Currently sat in A&e . Barely slept last night due to pain. My ankle is multi coloured. Let's see what the dr thinks.

Went to a funeral recently of a youngish man I'd known since my teens so knew there would be some people there I'd not seen for years. Instead of wearing sensible flat shoes, I went for the wedges..... saw said people blah blah, nice drink in a lovely pub - said goodbye, got outside onto the pavement and my ankle went over, stacked it onto the pavement OUTSIDE A PUB in broad daylight! Felt very stupid and will wear sensible flats from now on (wedges are on Vinted!).

isitmeamithedrama · 08/06/2025 09:50

I’ve had many over the years but my top 2
stabbing my hand separating frozen food, that needed a minor operation as I managed to nick a tendon in my thumb

walking with my hands in pockets and tripped up a hidden kerb = sprained wrist and a very skint face. Had to get checked for a fractured eye socket but thankfully that part was fine

Hope you heal quickly

Good luck!

(When DH broke his leg in a motorbike accident, he was able to get back on the bike, ride it home, then walj to our house from the his garage, and it was only a few hours later the pain hit and he spent several days in hospital)

Oneearringlost · 08/06/2025 10:00

DH fell over with DS on his back doing the Dad's race at sports day.

DH decided to wear the cylinder '
tunnel from the children's garden tent; he was pretending to be a Doctor Who monster and fell over, cracking three ribs.

I have done a fun run with my three year old today and managed to trip over on some cobbles (who organises a kids run on cobble!!!) and pulled my DS down with me too. It was so embarrassing and I have two sore knees and a big graze on my wrist… luckily DS wasn’t hurt. We managed to finish the race though!

God, that reminds me of the time I fell flat on the top of St Agnes Beacon. It was OK though, 5 year old DS was under me to break my fall....😬

Danikm151 · 08/06/2025 10:19

Walking down to the 2nd night of Pride in Brum last year.
I tripped over an uneven pavement( thanks BCC!)

Completely scratched up my legs and had a massive bruise. A passerby helped me up and I was waddling.
Luckily I had to walk past the St John’s ambulance staff to get to the venue.
Cleaned and patched me up- had to explain that I was sober though!

That bruise lasted 6 weeks!

Oh no!! Nightmare. I am feeling bruised today - both my knee and ego! DS is fine luckily. Hope yours was ok after being a great cushion…

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/06/2025 12:43

Ran into the post office (in a filling station shop), was certain it was an automatic door. It's not. Got knocked back onto the forecourt.

Knocked myself out on a (well padded) cross bar chasing my 3 year old around a soft play structure.

Had a shower in the dark because o was sleepy and didn't want to wake up too much. Washed my hands with a razor head!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/06/2025 12:46

@Meowsmol I'm mask a veteran of sprained ankles. You need to elevate it and rest it if you can, I know you're on a day out. Ice it and compress it as soon as you can. There's no "just" about a sprained ankle. It may be worth an x ray to be sure it's not broken.

Ilovevegetables · 08/06/2025 13:38

I was on holiday in Majorca last week when I tripped and fell in a pothole. I hurt my knee, chipped my tooth and split my lip. Didn’t want to go to hospital so waited till I was home. Turns out I’ve sprained my knee - it’s still really sore. Amonst others, Pre Covid I tripped on a kerb and cracked a rib and I’ve also slipped on water and damaged ligaments in my knee (same one). On holiday in Cuba many years ago I moved down on a bench and fell off the end of it and had to visit a Cuban medical facility to get checked over.
