Severe bruising back and legs after cliff jump

Debtfreeme · 07/06/2025 10:46

On holiday in Mexico and I daftly decided to do a cliff jump. I landed wrongly and literally thought I had broken my bag. I have really bad bruising on back and legs. Pain is off the scale and I have a 10 hour
flight tomorrow and no idea how I am going to get through it. Any thoughts?

I have ibuprofen and ice

Have you actually had it checked out to see if you have broken anything?

most hotels will either have a doctor on call or know where to see one so you can get stronger painkillers.

failing that the airport shops probably sell paracetamol.

tell the airline you have injured your leg (can you weight bear?). Ask for assistance if necessary

Go to a hospital or medical centre immediately.

Have you been to hospital ? What did they prescribe? Did they say you are safe to travel?

Cam1981 · 07/06/2025 10:52

Contact your travel insurance 24 Medical assistance team and ask them to locate you a medical facility. If you show any signs of discomfort when boarding you won’t be allowed to fly unless you can get a FTF certificate.

timestressed · 07/06/2025 10:52

Pain off the scale may I dictate that some bones are damaged.

NewPeaches · 07/06/2025 10:52

If you’re asking for thoughts, you need to say whether you sought medical attention?

Danikm151 · 07/06/2025 10:53

Please say you got travel insurance- then again cliff jumping probably wouldn’t be covered.

Get checked out! Ibuprofen and ice probably aren’t going to help much.

amooseymoomum · 07/06/2025 10:53

def get medical help it does not sound right. You will not be allowed to fly if you are uncomfortable.

IReallyLoveItHere · 07/06/2025 10:55

You should go to hospital. I think most people won't so....

Ibuprofen and paracetamol.
Are you in a country where a pharmacy might sell you something stronger?
Keep moving
Compression bandages might help the leg

It'll probably get worse before it gets better.

I'd be wary of saying anything to the airline. If you give the impression you might not be fit to fly they will want a certificate to say you are.

Debtfreeme · 07/06/2025 10:55

nothing is broken it just badly bruised. I am seeing nurse again soon

Actually I'd be worried about blood clots developing in flight. You really should go to hospital.

bloodredfeaturewall · 07/06/2025 10:58

contact your travel insurance - you might not be fit to fly.
you may well have 'won' a few extra days holiday.

hope you feel better soon.

Has that been confirmed with X rays?

Happydays321 · 07/06/2025 11:09

I don't know if the OP will be covered by her travel insurance unless she's paid to include dangerous sports.

Sandysandyfeet · 07/06/2025 11:24

Are you sure there are no internal injuries or risk of developing a thrombosis?

foxgloveswaving · 07/06/2025 11:28

How do you know nothing is broken op

OchAyeTheNo0 · 07/06/2025 11:35

Sorry this is a hospital job not a nurse.

Hopefully in that case, OP has told the little white lie that she slipped and fell down some steps...

crumblingschools · 07/06/2025 11:42

@Velmy that woukd be stupid when seeking medical assistance. Might not look for injuries that could be caused from a cliff jump

House0fBamboo · 07/06/2025 11:55

Have you been x rayed?

Don’t think the insurance will cover unless they’ve got cover for dangerous activities. Sorry already been covered! I don’t think lying is a good idea, if her injuries are conducive to a fall from a height, they will be different to slipping over.

ElixirOfLife · 07/06/2025 12:04

Go to hospital for an x-ray. Get confirmation of your injuries. You could cause untold damage walking around with an injury you’re making worse without realising.

Hope the OP has plentry of money!

Assuming you can afford it (& this would be a time to use the credit card), I'd try to get a business class seat on the flight home in as much comfort as possible. The few thousand this would cost will get you back to the good ol' NHS. And as others have said, even if you have insurance, I'd be amazed if it covered cliff jumping.
