I'm ill in bed and bored. Mines a slow cooker. I don't like stew or casserole, I know you can cook lots of things in it but I never use it. What's yours?

The dog. We carefully researched all breeds for temperament, care needs, physical resilience etc, and waited ages for this one (I won't say the type but they're very popular). Dog has some digestive issues that are apparently quite characteristic of her breed, so needs expensive food, frequent vet appointments etc. She's no easier to train or calmer than any of the mongrels we had as kids...if anything she's a much needier temperament.

My parents are completely bemused by it all, having always acquired mongrel pups for free (or almost free) fed them regular supermarket food and just trained them without the help of classes or books. Their dogs lived long lives, never had issues with behaviour and (with only a couple of exceptions) only needed vets for routine vaccinations. I do love our dog, but what a waste of money all that overplanning has been!

I just have the attachment it came with as I assumed (until today😆 that the one they sell with the mixer is the right one to use 🫣 😬) I did buy the glass bowl though as I thought it was the stainless steel bowl that was the problem so shelled out on a snazzy glass one! Didn’t solve the issue….

There's posh - we need had the glass bowl - you need the beater with the silicone bits on the edges - game changer

Slow cooker, everything it watery I can’t work out what on earth I’m doing wrong but I need to find the box in the loft and donate or sell it. Do food backs take slow cookers?

You don't have to make everything watery

You can literally just throw in a whole chicken in the morning before work

Come back after work to find a cooked whole chicken

You can then brown it in the oven if you want

As a rough idea of how you can use them

A Kitchen Aid. Always wanted one. All my cakes turned out flat. Gave it to one of my daughters. She loves it. Went back to my food processor. Cakes back to normal.
Carpet washer (Vax). Too heavy to use. Gave it to my beefy son in law.

Definitely this! Awful things. Everything is so bland.

My sister cooks joints of meat in her slow cooker, with no liquid.

Thigh-high heeled boots. They're stunning (not hooker-ish). Black but lined with gorgeous pink, super soft leather. I've worn them 3 times and will never wear them again. Cost hundreds. Probably £200 per wear.

They're listed on Vinted/Ebay but no interest.

Righttherights · 07/06/2025 09:23

A ring off Fakebook to ‘stop migraines in their tracks and a mouthguard to stop snoring ( Have sleep apnoea!) Of course the ring did eff all as the ‘magnets’ were just plastic, and the mouthguard reeks of chemicals so likely to set off an allergic reaction. Bought on the same night while doomscrolling and feeling fed up/being impulsive.

Put a teatowel under the lid. It will absorb the condensation which otherwise drips back into your food

I doubt we can offer any advice but please just ask as we've been there. All the very best x

Thank you

It's more the brewery are no help, but then I'm finding out most are like the pub equivalent of a MLM or pyramid scheme.
Although my new accountant told me he is going to be able to budget for us to pay ourselves £1k each per month for financial purposes/pension and tax deductions. I was proper chuffed! In my old job I earned that a week 😂

Agree on slow cooker. I need to get rid of mine as it's just taking up space in the cupboard. Everthing cooked in it tastes the same. Ditto one of those glass round convection ovens. The light is so bright on it, it is blinding. Used once.

Coach bag. It's preloved but I used it once. It's so heavy even without anything in it. And it won't stand upright when I place it down. So annoying. I should sell that too.

Epilator. Good god this is like a human torture device. I read the blurb and believed what they said that if you use it more you get used to the pain. You do not. Well I did not. I even resorted to using it on the chin hairs that I've been blessed with recently. It look a layer of skin off my face and that took forever to heal.

Bottles and bottles of lotion / hand wash sets. They look so good on the shelf and matched the bathroom decor etc. I've come to realise the prettier the bottle, the more watery the lotion is inside.

I love my air fryer though. I plonk the basket part in the dishwasher so cleaning doesn't get a 2nd thought. I make the best steaks in there. And pork belly.

Please share how you cook the steaks in the air fryer? I’m intrigued!

I have a Ninja 2 drawer one which I do like but it keeps getting shoved into the corner (we have a weird deep corner on our worktop) where all sorts of crap ends up in front of it and it’s just a faff to pull out. It’s my DH who keeps putting stuff in front of it, very frustrating!

On my list - cot bed. DS (now 3) did use the intial next to bed cot thing but ended up sleeping much better in our bed after the 6 month point and he still sleeps with us now! The cot bed is now a ‘bed’ but it acts as a prop in his bedroom and stuffed toy storage area. 🧸 I need to tackle it as he’s not getting any smaller…

@Cyclebabble

  1. I can't believe you took the spoons back because of the staining you caused.
  2. I can't believe John Lewis capitulated and gave you a refund even though it was completely your fault, not the manufacturers

I can’t believe you’re so vexed about someone else’s £10 refund 😂. It makes no difference to your life!

Mine was one of these waist twister things…ashamed I bought it!!

I bought one of those about 6 months ago. It's still in the box, every now and then I notice it under the shelving unit in the living room and think, I must open that and start using it, but it still hasn't happened. Perhaps I will today..

The brewery was our biggest problem by far. Beer was 30% than I could buy the same from a local delivery co. and I had 30days credit with them. Our brewery had to be paid up front. They used to take the order, we'd pay cash into the bank on a Tuesday for a Friday delivery - and the order came from the local guys so they were having 30% extra for just placing an order!. When I setup an account with the local guys (out of desperation!) they refused to deliver to the pub as they weren't allowed to so I had it delivered next door. That bought us another 6months of trading. The big breweries are nothing more than property management companies - and then they screwed us on the fixtures and fittings - we paid that on the day we left and the new guys didnt want them so they were skipped within a week and we'd paid £10k for them.

I know what you mean . Our dogs got pedigree chum or cheap supermarket stuff along with any leftovers - didn’t even know about the toxic stuff! All lived to 14/15. Our dog has a mix of raw/ freeze dried/ grain free kibble/beef slices as a very fussy eater and costs a bloody fortune. Don’t get me started on vets bills! Also just bought her an expensive dog bed. Won’t use it!

Slow cookers are designed to trap moisture so if you are using a stove top recipe you need to halve the quantity of liquids.

LondonFox · 07/06/2025 09:36

Indoor bike. Quite bulky and expensive way to keep you pile of semi dirty clothes.

Spiralizer. Courgettes are expensive now imo so it just went to bin.

Sewing machine. I thought I would run up a pair of curtains in about fifteen minutes but I can barely thread it. It's a complete mystery to me. I should go on a course but Im too embarrassed by my own incompetence.

@Barney16 have you checked YouTube? There might be a tutorial on how to thread it.

I absolutely love my Eufy! You do have to move stuff out of the way though.

An electric gadget to detarnish jewellery. (Bicarb, aluminium foil and hot water works better.)

Re slow cookers: brown/soften ingredients on cooker first, just as if you are making a stew/casserole to go in oven. Add minimal liquid; it retains it, especially on low settings. I love mine.

Simmilar story to my parents cat.

Cat? Free street cat.
Vet bills, that one expensive type of food he eats, cat house he does not like but sleeps in delivery box... priceless
