I was discussing this with DS2 and DiL at the weekend
They are off on a long awaited road trip to the USA on Friday.
Im not particularly well travelled due to financial and disability factors but these are mine.
Oxford. As soon as I get there, I give a sigh of contentment and instantly relax.
I adore the beautiful architecture, the area around the Radcliffe camera is my favourite.
The view from the tower in " The high"
The bridge of sighs, and of course a punt down the river
I would live there in a heartbeat.
Mevagissey, Cornwall. Walking down the hill soothes my soul. Memories of wonderful family holidays with my 3 sons on the beach at Gorran Haven and evenings spent watching the harbour.
in fact any fishing village is calming and restful.
Florence, Italy. Went last year with DS2 and DiL
Truly breathtaking.
The Ponte Vecchio, I was born in Bath and lived there until 9 years ago. I now live in Bradford on Avon, which is another small town in Wiltshire known for its architecture and atmosphere.
Would love to hear yours, and visualise them.

Heacham in Norfolk - we have a caravan and I love being there I often go by myself for a couple of days and I totally feel relaxed .I think we’ll end up moving there in a few years.
Ireland - my family are from Northern Ireland and I love going back there in a strange way it feels like home even though I wasn’t born there.
Portugal - we go to a small resort about 30 minutes from Lisbon this year will be our 5th year it’s so beautiful and peaceful.

West Coast of Scotland, I love the wildness. Luckily I live there but I can't imagine living somewhere flat with no coastline.

Lucky you. That whole area is spectacular.

I was coming on to say the area around Glencoe. Absolutely breathtaking scenery; so dramatic and majestic. Always leaves me feeling restored.

Being in the Rocky mountains. I went to Canada when I was 19 and fell in love with it. I've been through the mountains again more recently, this time over the Montana/Wyoming pass to Yellowstone and I got the same feeling of contentment at the views and wildness.

I also get a feeling of homecoming going to my dad's in London. I grew up in London and although I now live rurally I do get a buzz going back.

Shetland, I live here now. I have a theory that everyone vibrates at a certain level and that if you can find the place that does too you will feel comfortable, like you belong there.

Greece.
Best place on earth.

RenoDakota · 04/06/2025 23:27

Sheringham Park, Norfolk
Thorpeness, Suffolk

Havvingaalaugh · 04/06/2025 23:31

Brancaster beach.

ncforschoolhelp · 04/06/2025 23:35

Greece. Instant calm & relaxation.

Shell Bay in Purbeck, Dorset. A beautiful unspoilt part of the world.

The West Sussex countryside, especially in late summer. Beautiful, quintessential England.

choirmumoftwo · 04/06/2025 23:43

Isles of Scilly, particularly the west and north of Bryher. My happy place.

Icequeen01 · 05/06/2025 00:11

Dedham and Flatford - Constable country. Lived there when I was very young and try to visit at least once a year. I always feel peaceful when I’m there and the views are beautiful.

Where I live. It’s on the coast (I love walking along the sea front every morning), there’s a city 10 minutes away, countryside 15 minutes away, forests 20 minutes away etc.
There are also a ton of independent shops, restaurants, coffee shops and all other wonderful places and it makes me so happy that the community is thriving.
Exploring it all makes me so happy.

My second happy place is Disney World! It honestly brings me so much joy. Watching my kids lose themselves in the magic of it all makes me tear up!

Please tell me where you live!

Via DM if you don’t want to be inundated with relocating MNers. It sounds blissful!

The White Horse at Uffington. I have such a weird, calm and seemingly ancient connection to it and the area. Same for Cheddar. Ancestors from that region, which I was not aware of until after I had visited these areas. Explains the feelings of connection there.

notatinydancer · 05/06/2025 04:55

India , I also love Oxford.

SilverCoins · 05/06/2025 04:57

Tentsmuir
I live close to a thousand tropical beaches in SE Asia but I would take that beach over all of them.

Stolenyouth · 05/06/2025 05:24

Oh anywhere in the woods in England. Old woods with gnarly trees and quiet paths. When I read about forest bathing it just made sense.
I lived in the UAE for a few years and remember coming home and walking in the woods and just being quite overcome with joy at the abundant green and the quiet, damp, safe feeling.
I can’t wait to retire and live somewhere I can walk in the woods in England every day.

I have an ancestor from Uffington! I've never been there however.

TinselTarTars · 05/06/2025 06:30

Cornwall, that view of St Michael's mount gets me every time.

HighlandCowbag · 05/06/2025 06:34

South Devon, Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth back beach. Just adore it, we go each year for a week. 3 weeks to go and counting.

The farm where my ponies live. Just stunning. It is so peaceful. I can ride for nearly 2 hours and not see another person.

My allotment.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 05/06/2025 06:57

Shropshire- somehow a deep connection which took me by surprise as a lot of my family were born and bred there. Never thought I’d feel like that.

Meanwhile…. North Norfolk. Brancaster, Holkham, Burnham Overy Staithe. Preferably out of season!

CyclingAddict · 05/06/2025 07:09

Pleased to see North Norfolk on here ...LOVE Holkham beach and Wells next the Sea

Live next to woodland and open fields…daily walks replenish my soul

Hippywannabe · 05/06/2025 07:28

Anywhere by the sea

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 05/06/2025 07:38

Anywhere by the sea - any natural water source at a push, but ideally the sea. I feel instantly calmer. And anywhere in Greece, I really think it’s my spiritual home.

Perhaps in a past life I was a sea nymph in Ancient Greece? 🤔

Mirrorxxx · 05/06/2025 07:38

the only place I feel truly at peace is on safari. Surrounded by nothing but the wildlife
