I'm almost finished. But I'm not sure how I feel about the planters. They are there to hide the bins a bit. But im not sure if they should be sitting on the wall rather than hanging on the railings. But if I sat them on the wall I would need to find a,way to balance them /keep them on as the bit they would sit on is to narrow.

Any general suggestions as a whole.

You’ve done great work! But maybe a long narrow planter the length of the wall, sitting on top of it and secured to the railings, will act as more of a beautifying/concealing element?

You've worked hard, planters need a lot of watering which will be difficult if they're behind the bins, I'd put a fake plant panels on the railings, some are realistic then put the planters on the small side railings.

I can water them from the path. What do you mean by fake plant panels.?

I'm so shit at keeping plants alive 😔

Would your planters not be better facing outwards, rather than tucked behind the bins?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/05/2025 13:35

Every time you post, I'm in awe at how hard you work. (Here I am, sat on the sofa...)

If the planters need to go on the railings, sobeit. I cant quite tell what's in them but at some point consider ''smelly' herbs (eg lavender, rosemary) that are natural insect repellents and also will smell nice if someone brushes against them.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/05/2025 13:36

Oh yes, plants in pots will need regular watering. Sorry.

MaryOBlige · 31/05/2025 13:36

Put this picture into ChatGPT and tell it what you want. It’s great

dontcomeatme · 31/05/2025 13:39

The planters look a bit lost with the bins in the background, I can see your vision though.
I think the PP meant something like this landscape attatched to your metal fence..

I like lavender. But im not sure, what i can plant it's north facing and shaded 90%of the time. Plus I kill everything. Mot sure how long theses will last.

I'm sitting on my butt to . I'm meant to be tidying up.

You can have both with something like these. Not sure how secure they are, but I think they would look better than the smaller ones you currently have. If you put several together it could look like one long one

Railing bridge planter

Exactly this, you can get all kinds, ivy, flowers, look on Google, amazon and wilko sell them and they need no maintenance, you could attach them to the railings easily by just tying them to the rail, facing outward

Ah I did think of something like that but im not sure if it would shout hey im fake.

Where you say the planters look lost . I was hoping once the plants grow more it would look better. But now im thinking they may die before they get the chance.

I don't think i want ivy . Flowers I would kill . But I do need something that practically looks after it's myself. For now though I will make do with what I have . Because I just spend 60.00 on them. I don't mind adding stuff though.

Add some bamboo roll between railings and planters. And get another planter for the side railing! https://amzn.eu/d/5jAjtAs

I'm not sure what you mean it can't go between as the planters are attached to the railings ?

It can go from wall to top railing though - trim around the planter brackets.

Hercisback1 · 31/05/2025 14:44

Don't put anything plastic up, it looks shit as it fades.

What you have looks lovely.

I wouldn't mind if it was sort of hiding something. And not to fake looking.

Im not very good at keeping on top of things so not sure if i will end up with over the top dust /spider webs etc

Maybe i should just leave it how it is and see how i go. Its at least tieded it up which was the main focus.

Jasmine’s great north facing, smells lovely too,

Berryslacks · 31/05/2025 14:54

What a great project OP well done. It looks lovely and neat. I agree with PP don’t put anything plastic up it will look awful. I would ditch the railing planters they will be a pain to keep watered etc. What I would do is buy a Montana clematis from the supermarket Morrisons or Asda or B&M often have them in small square 9cm pots. Then make a hole in the corner of the weed membrane. Plant the clematis in the hole and put the gravel back. Now then a Montana is vigorous but you can use that to your advantage just twine it in amongst the railings and trim back whatever grows too much. It will cover the railings in no time and give you flowers in the Spring and doesn’t mind a North facing position and they are virtually impossible to kill.
