Where can I stay in London overnight with my daughter (hotel) which won’t cost the earth?

Hello MN,
My daughter is 12 & has been struggling with her health for the last year.
We are going to an event in London in a few weeks & I want to take her to stay in a hotel overnight afterwards for a treat.
Would love it to be a fancy one but I’m a single mum with a budget of around £150…
Wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere for us to stay - am I being a bit optimistic being London & all (doesn’t have to be central!) 🫶

Where's the event? Premier Inns and Travelodges would do the job for you and there are various across London... £150 a night will be a challenge in central London but do able in zone 3/4 I reckon.

redpombears · 29/05/2025 23:31

Travelodge Battersea would be under budget x

IReallyLoveItHere · 29/05/2025 23:32

London very expensive at the moment, there's a lot on and so a lot of visitors.

Covent garden travellodge pretty much every time we go. It's clean, safe, central. Unfortunately not at all fancy.

Travelodge Balham is right next to the tube / overland station.

OnTheBoardwalk · 29/05/2025 23:34

Where is the event and what time is it?

can’t go wrong with a premier inn and breakfast

SheilaFentiman · 29/05/2025 23:34

Travelodge in Clapham
junction was £155 for a random Saturday in July so maybe there?

TheCurious0range · 29/05/2025 23:35

Point a hotels can be reasonable, consider the canary wharf branch jubilee line is open over night. Would be helpful if you said which part of London the event is in

SheilaFentiman · 29/05/2025 23:35

Or hotels in Ealing can be ok.

Wibblywobblybobbly · 29/05/2025 23:35

Totally doable. What area of London is the event? And what night of the week?

daffodil2025 · 29/05/2025 23:35

The Travel Lodge in Covent Garden is great, as is the one at Liverpool Street - great locations with enough money left in the pot for a lovely breakfast somewhere else the following morning.

You would be lucky to get those for £150 these days,

OnTheBoardwalk · 29/05/2025 23:38

Nothing fancy for £150 unfortunately in London though

thishouseisashittip · 29/05/2025 23:38

We are staying in a Premier inn in Canary Wharf for 5 nights at the end of July and it cost £380, so I would say premier inn budget wise. I have found most premier inns decent.

So a bit unusual but the Sunborn Yacht hotel on Royal Victoria Dock is usually extremely expensive, but if you check their calendar they can be, on odd days, a lot less. A quick look at their calendar shows days at £188. We stayed once for £99. Anyway - I’d email them & ask and explain circumstances, if it’s a good spot to stay for you. It’s fun & very special. Usually they have free cable car tickets across the river as well.

Premier inn Hackney is usually pretty cheap (for London) & there's a bus stop right outside or tube close by.

HonoriaBulstrode · 29/05/2025 23:44

Definitely need to know where the event is, OP. You dont want to be looking at hotels in Ealing if you're going to the Excel.

DiamondLily · 29/05/2025 23:45

If you’re looking for a treat then try Motel one near Aldgate ( on circle line so accessible to most places in London) - boutique feel but well priced although depends when you are going - I’ve just looked at dates in July - £179, but £144 in August. If you sign up to become a member you get 10% off. Otherwise I’ve stayed at the Premier Inn at Hammersmith - reasonable and near the tube station. Enjoy your trip!

Haha yes you’re right - Liverpool Street comes in at just under £150 on a Saturday night. Any other day of the week is much cheaper - just £45 for a Sunday in August!

CookiesAreForSharing · 29/05/2025 23:49

I’ve just seen for example the Sunborn Yacht is £137 tomorrow night including breakfast. Please contact them - we had such a wonderful stay there. The kids still remember the hot chocolate at breakfast! I’m always shocked when they have the random super bargain days!

TL Covent Garden is £220 on Sat 21 June, for example. Assume op needs a weekend if Dd is still at school.

ETA - liv street is £167 that night.

Places up by London City Airport (Beckton). Stayed in the Holiday Inn (I think) for about £99 but there is a whole line of hotels near there and they also have parking, which London, in general, doesn't offer. Hotels close to the Excel Centre were also large, budget, but nice.

ARichtGoodDram · 29/05/2025 23:57

Premier Inn Wembley Park is excellent if there's not anything on at Wembley.

Literally a minute walk to the tube station and on the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines.

We stayed there at Easter and it was around £100 a night and it was the biggest PI room I've ever seen!

WizardofCoz · 29/05/2025 23:57

Oh wow thanks for all your replies, wasn’t expecting this!
The event is in Kensington (daytime event)
…some brilliant suggestions - am so grateful!! 💕🥰

Depending on dates, this might be within your budget, including breakfast. I’ve stayed a few times, and it’s nicer than the website makes it sound.
