Second '100 days' working out much like the first, but with a Vance-proof Pope, a bigly white elephant plane, a few more legal push backs and way more grifting.

What I want to know is is it (was it) pronounced Lee-on (like the French city) or Lion (🦁) for President Tyler's son Lyon?

Always the salient questions from me.

I'm not defending Trump here, but some far right podcasters are seriously unhinged.

They should give him a cut and stick activity and a bit of colouring in. Maybe some movement breaks.

I was watching Power of Art / Simon Schema on the death of Marat last night

I recognised the image but didn't know Marat was essentially the main propagandist who ran a newspaper that Endlessly outed new lists of traitors in revolutionary France to go to the guillotine. I immediately thought "he'd be a podcaster now" or have his own channel like Alex Jones infowars or Steve Bannon

South Florida weatherman tells viewers he can't accurately predict hurricanes because of government cuts Angry

Some of the comments are Shock - blaming him for being incompetent Confused Although interestingly even Grok acknowledges that the cuts will have had a detrimental impact.

Once again, a parallel with Brexit. Remember how all the bad stuff was because we didn't beLeave enough ?

I am surprised that team Trump are so equivocal - surely the immediate response should have been "You aren't praying right" and leave it at that.

We still haven't seen the full intersection of religious extremism and federal government play out yet.

pinkingshears · 04/06/2025 11:25

@prettybird it's quite absurd, isn't it? We have all seen footage from the fairly recent past when people were stuck on their roofs after extreme weather events. I remember the criticism of the US Govt then that not enough was being done (Govt implication - only the poor/madly stubborn didn't evacuate so it was 'their fault' and that they didn't matter / count as not important enough anyway) but, surly even the dumbest member of the current US Govt realises that accurate prediction of extreme weather events is useful, even for RICH & IMPORTANT people?

(maybe not, the importance of good medical evidence seems to be lost on RF Kennedy, which is astonishing in our only recently post Covid world)

CaveMum · 04/06/2025 11:43

I think it was on Pod Save America recently that they interviewed someone who talked about all the mistakes the Dems made over the last few years - he named RFK as one of them.

For a group that claims to be “inclusive” they are pretty darn puritanical at times which allowed the Republicans to broaden their own church, encompassing people like RFK.

Agreed. I loathe DT but don't want to see violence towards him as this would just unleash more violence and innocent people would be hurt. The last thing the USA needs more instability. The trouble is, when you MAGA stokes division and encourages violence, they can't guarantee to steer it the way they want to.

Fuckers

The Trump admin has rescinded guidance telling health providers who perform abortions in emergency cases that they're protected under federal law, despite any bans that might exist in their states.

The directive was issued by the Biden administration.

BBC rejects incorrect White House claims on Gaza coverage

The BBC has rejected incorrect White House criticism of its Gaza coverage, describing a claim that it had taken down a story as "completely wrong".
[...]
"It is vital to bring people the truth about what is happening in Gaza. International journalists are not currently allowed into Gaza and we would welcome the support of the White House in our call for immediate access," the BBC's statement added.

Found a link to the actual BBC statement, rather than the reporting on the statement.

BBC statement on claims made about Gaza reporting

"The claim the BBC took down a story after reviewing footage is completely wrong. We did not remove any story and we stand by our journalism.

"Our news stories and headlines about Sunday's aid distribution centre incident were updated throughout the day with the latest fatality figures as they came in from various sources. These were always clearly attributed, from the first figure of 15 from medics, through the 31 killed from the Hamas-run health ministry to the final Red Cross statement of ‘at least 21’ at their field hospital. This is totally normal practice on any fast-moving news story.

"Completely separately, a BBC Verify online report on Monday reported a viral video posted on social media was not linked to the aid distribution centre it claimed to show. This video did not run on BBC news channels and had not informed our reporting. Conflating these two stories is simply misleading.

From NYT just now.
This is a "good conversation"?
Well, at least he's giving Ukraine the heads up I guess.

President Trump said Russia planned to retaliate against Ukraine for its surprise attack over the weekend, after speaking to President Vladimir V. Putin on the phone for more than an hour on Wednesday.

“President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields,” Mr. Trump said in a statement on social media. He described their exchange as a “good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.” The post briefly disappeared from the site without explanation, then reappeared.

...Mr. Trump did not say in the statement if he sought to discourage Mr. Putin from attacking Ukraine. He rather expressed optimism over the prospect of working with Mr. Putin on another foreign policy priority: deterring Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The White House did not immediately respond to questions inquiring if Mr. Trump had pushed back against Mr. Putin in the phone call or why his Truth Social post had been temporarily deleted.

The post broke a rare, if temporary, silence by Mr. Trump on complex international affairs. The statement was his first about Kyiv’s drone attack on airfields in Russia, a stunning assault that hit nuclear-capable bombers, revealing a significant vulnerability.
^^
...Mr. Trump described the episode as if he were a bystander, and suggested that an aggressive Russian response was a fait accompli.

https://www.france24.com/en/middle-east/20250604-us-vetoes-un-security-council-immediate-gaza-ceasefire-hamas-israel

The United States on Wednesday blocked a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted aid into war-ravaged Gaza. The US was the only member of the 15-nation council to go against the vote, saying the resolution would only work to embolden Hamas because it did not call for the militant group to disarm.

logicisall · 04/06/2025 22:49

Reading between the lines from OP post, Trump just gave Putin a green light to attack Ukraine more aggressively.🤬
