If a friend purchases tickets for an event later in the year, how long do you take to pay your share?

I always pay within a week, I feel that's an acceptable time.

My two friends though, are very lax about this. Last year I booked tickets for the 3 of us in July, for a show in November. Although we all saw each other several times in this period, they waited until November and paid me at the theatre!

We're all seeing a show in 2 weeks time, that I booked at Christmas. One of them (who lives in my village!) has mentioned a few times she'd put the money through my door but hasn't. The other one lives a bit further away, but nothing to stop her doing a bank transfer!

It's not just me who books things, they sometimes book group tickets too but their timelines for payment are very different to mine!

The tickets aren't mega expensive, they tend to be about £30 each, but I'd rather be reimbursed soon afterwards. Months later is taking advantage, I feel.

Next time tell everyone you need the money upfront before you can get the tickets.

BangersAndGnash · 29/05/2025 15:59

Straight away.
Next couple of days at the most

Straight away, why should someone else be out of pocket 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would hate someone to have to ask me for repayment so I pay before that can happen, 24 hours tops.

timestressed · 29/05/2025 16:03

I transfer straight away. They are doing me a favour by doing the admin!

BobbyBiscuits · 29/05/2025 16:06

I'd either pay immediately or on my next payday. It's not fair to leave it for months as the other person has clearly paid out of their own pocket upfront for the tickets and is missing that money.

Yes I have a CF ‘friend’ like this who doesn’t pay straight away because ‘she doesn’t do online banking’!
She says she will pay cash next time she sees you then forgets. A few weeks go by and I ask her for money and she always says ‘haven’t I already paid you?’ implying I am trying to scam her.
As you can imagine I no longer agree to book anything but then feel guilty because it means another friend always ends up booking things.

Why on earth cant you and the reliable friend book with each other and leave CF friend out? You dont have to do everything in a three and she's clearly taking the piss isnt she and knows exactly what she's doing

TaupeRaven · 30/05/2025 09:05

Immediately, unless there's been prior agreement ("I'd love to but money is tight this month, can we book after payday?" type thing).

mindutopia · 30/05/2025 09:48

I would do it as soon as they told me, otherwise chances of me forgetting are high.

I honestly would say, just checking everyone is still interested in attending, please just let me know and send payment over today, or I can look to see if anyone else wants the ticket if you don’t think you can come anymore.

alcoholnightmare · 30/05/2025 09:49

I pay as soon as booked - would definitely not wait a week

DancingDucks · 30/05/2025 09:52

My friend is the usually the one to book tickets for shows etc because she always manages to get discounts etc. I transfer the money to her as soon as she's booked. Anything else is unacceptable imo.

LouiseK93 · 31/05/2025 00:02

I would send money straight away or agree beforehand to pay in installments or by a certain date.

Maybe in future if booking is left to you just say you need the money sent over before you book as you don't have the funds for everybody!
