In Praise Of The Humble Figroll!

When I was a kid,I did like figrolls but tended to dismiss them as a “ healthy biscuit” along with digestives,Rich Tea, arrowroot etc. I love them as an adult ( if you get the right brands). So satisfying to eat & solid enough for a great dunk in your cuppa! Keep you regular too 🤣 Any figroll fans out there?

Love a fig roll.
What brand would you recommend @RabbitsRock ?

Polaopposite · 28/05/2025 15:25

Another fig roll lover, here. Lemon puffs are the only biscuit that I don’t like.

Fig rolls are the BEST biscuit. Followed by bourbon and garibaldi.

Sorry but lemons puffs are not biscuits. Biscuits do not puff.

But Lemon Puffs don’t puff at all, any more than custard creams do. No idea why they’re called that.

All the more for me…

ZaZathecat · 28/05/2025 15:39

Oh I used to love fig rolls, but I'm coeliac and have never managed to find gluten free ones - unless someone here can point me to some???!

Those are not the lemon puffs of my youth, which really were puffy, a bit more like puff pastry than biscuit

Love a fig roll. Is usually sidelined in favour of a digestive as you get a bit more biscuit as a single item.

Ilovemyshed · 28/05/2025 17:16

Bloomin love them, especially dunked. I made some recently, they were awesome.

WombForTwo · 28/05/2025 17:17

I love fig rolls. I remember when I was a toddler and sleeping over at my grandmother’s house she’d get me into bed with her in the morning, all tucked up and my grandad would bring her a cup of tea. We’d sit and share half a pack of fig rolls - she’d dip it, eat most of it and then dip and give me the end. Blissful.

We're big lovers here. I buy 2 packs of the Sainsbury's version every week.

This^ Sainsbury's ones are the best <fact>.

rosegoldJune · 28/05/2025 17:47

I absolutely love a fig roll, my grandparents used to have them, so brings back happy memories, I can demolish a full pack! When I left my previous job (retail) my manager bought me 2 big packs of them as a leaving present amongst other things 🤣

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/05/2025 17:50

I've found my people!

Judiezones · 28/05/2025 17:52

I love them!

ChessieFL · 28/05/2025 17:53

Love fig rolls. DD and I fight over them. I like lemon puffs too but haven’t seen them for years.

Pianoaholic · 28/05/2025 18:15

I love them (not knowingly ever had a wasp in one!!). I think of them as being a bit healthy, due to the fibre content.
I also love lemon puffs.

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2025 09:37

I love them.

Unfortunately due to a wheat intolerance the biscuit bit counteracts the fig bit Wink and I can’t eat them.

If I could find a GF version I’d be bulk ordering them. They are the BEST dunking biscuits

I use our fresh figs and a GF fig roll recipe that popped up online.

I recall one could freeze the rolled dough ready to slice and fresh bake down the line too.

mumsandaunties · 28/05/2025 20:23

I love (entire packets of) fig rolls…they are the supreme biscuit, although I’m not sure about all this dunking you lot are talking about. Bleurgh.

I bought some fig rolls from Aldi last week and they were awful. They actually went in the bin, which if you knew me you’d realise how bad they must have been. Lidl’s version are ok, but I really like the ones that are in plastic trays (Jacobs?) and the biscuit bit is slightly thicker.

In my youth, elevenses with my gran involved a milky coffee, fig rolls and garibaldi. Sometimes she’d disappoint me by having nasty bourbons or something else.

piscofrisco · 29/05/2025 04:47

I love them. And they were once the source of a bit of chit chat back and forth on Twitter and later the same day in person with the lead singer of a band I’ve been in love with forever. So I will always hold them in high affection. Unfortunately I am on a ‘weight loss journey’ 😐and as I recall they come in at 80 calories a piece so they are off limits to me at this point.

Pickthestitch · 29/05/2025 05:12

When Dd was 2 she called them piggy rolls and they have remained so in the stitch house for the last 20 years. I used to have them with my Nanny with a glass of milk to dunk them in. They are definitely going on the shopping list this week.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/05/2025 05:32

I love fig rolls. We usually bring them to the beach for a picnic as they are a good solid biscuit. I would love to try and make some.

kissmyfatass · 29/05/2025 05:34

I love f❤️ fig rolls. DF used to have them and got DD into them too.

spoonbillstretford · 29/05/2025 05:36

They are ok but nothing to write home about. Most shop bought biscuits are a waste of calories.

Deathraystare · 29/05/2025 09:59

Yes but rarely buy them. I eat them all i one sitting!

LegalQElderlyDad · 29/05/2025 23:26

I love fig rolls too - my fig roll of preference would always be the Jacobs ones (from the Irish section in Sainsburys).
But the last couple of packs I've tried have been really dry - I think they've reduced the amount of figgy squidge in the middle of the roll, so so disappointing 😫
