What do you think happened to Andrew Gosden?

Cheffymcchef · 26/05/2025 19:35

Andrew Gosden was a 14-year-old boy from Doncaster, England, who vanished on September 14, 2007. He left home for school as usual but instead withdrew £200 from his bank account, changed into casual clothes, and bought a one-way train ticket to London King's Cross on a Friday morning. CCTV captured him arriving at the station at 11:25 AM, and that was the last confirmed sighting of him. Despite numerous appeals, media coverage, and even arrests in 2021 related to potential human trafficking, Andrew has never been found, and his disappearance remains one of the UK’s most baffling missing person cases. Andrew was a high achiever at school with 100% attendance and had never gone missing before. The school misdialled his parents when he did not show up, and when his parents returned from work they did not realise Andrew was missing, until dinner time when he did not appear at the table. They presumed he was in the basement gaming.

andrrw had lost two mobile phones in succession and had no home internet access or computer until the gosdens got it 8 weeks before he vanished. his sisters computer- the only one in the house- was checked, and nothing untoward found.

It’s such a little known case compared to Madeline McCann that I thought it would be good to remind everyone on here.

I personally think Andrew had been groomed by someone local who arranged to meet him that day and offered him a lift back. I think this person knew of the family and had probably been grooming Andrew for a long time. I do have someone in mind although obviously will not name names on this sub.

I find these speculative threads posted In “Chat” as so distasteful and disrespectful

Imagine being his mother, just perusing mumsnet and coming across this

soupyspoon · 26/05/2025 19:38

Its the only likely explanation OP unfortunately.

Well don’t read it then?

It's the most baffling missing persons case (aside from Asha Degree) and very frustrating because he disappeared in an area with countless CCTV cameras, but police were completely useless and didn't obtain the CCTV in time before it got erased/overwritten.

Brian Schaffer is another one. Very odd.

I haven’t even heard of him. Threads like these are so important to raise awareness of cases like this that other people might not have heard of.

I’ve read a bit about Asha degree. Seems the police have their suspicions but can’t do anything for whatever reason. I remember finding it heartbreaking a small girl would walk out of her house in the dark with her book bag.

They think they know who murdered Asha Degree now. Or at least there is forensic evidence linking a family to the disappearance. I presume there will be a trial soon

I heard this. So sad. I wonder what possessed her to get her stuff and walk out the house on her own at night.

It's the circumstances that are so incredibly off: a little girl leaving her house in the middle of the night and walking along the highway in the rain. Just why?

Always breaks my heart this case as I am from Doncaster and a big muse fan (his favourite band) whenever I am at a concert of muse I always think about it!

But @Pickley981 is right. Regardless of whether that poster leaves the thread or not, this - you, @Cheffymcchef, drooling over another person's pain and misery - is(at best) distasteful.

Shame on you and everyone who posts on your salivating over someone else's pain

soupyspoon · 26/05/2025 20:14

Im just reading about Asha Degree now, what is a bit odd is that they seem to have recovered a car and say that she was seen getting into it. But at the time I thought that she was seen, last sighting, running off into woodland, who saw her get into the car?

ScholesPanda · 26/05/2025 20:16

I hope he ran away from home and is loving his best life. Not nice for the family, but at least that would mean he's alive and well.

But you obviously think you know whodunnit OP. Are you close to the case?

I think you’re projecting awfully with ‘drooling’ and ‘salivating.’

I think it would probably be worse to never have them mentioned. A lot of families in these situations struggle to keep any focus on the search for their loved one, and so, while social media / news is a double-edged sword, it’s often better than the alternative.

I lived in the area then, and wracked my brain to try and remember if I’d seen him that day but no. It is shocking that there has been no more information since that last glimpse of him.

Op, why don’t you have a look ate website Websleuths where crimes are discussed and debated in detail.

I am already on that and the subreddit

Bizarre comment. I think you are projecting. How sad you don’t want there to be posts raising awareness. It’s almost like you don’t want them to be found, don’t want people to know there is still a missing child out there.

Nowhere was anyone “salivating” on here, and I have found out about a case on here I would’ve have known about otherwise. Other people probably haven’t heard of poor Andrew, this may be the first time.

Andrew’s parents are well aware people repost his case on forums and are very supportive of it. I hope that helps you feel better.

I think creating threads like this is a good thing.

Remember he had a very distinctively double ridged ear.

Imagine if even a quarter of the funds spent on the MM case was spent on this, he would have been found I'm sure.

I think he planned to go to the Sixth concert and then stay with his London relatives that night, calling his parents to say where he was as his Father said he would be likely to go and apologise after than ask to go and be disallowed. That would be why he didn't get a return ticket. He planned to travel back at his leisure.

I think he met someone who also claimed to be a Slipknot fan and lured him back to theirs and he is likely still there somewhere, still 14 sadly.

I have thought about this but the concert was strict 16+ and Andrew’s dad said he wasn’t a sixth fan

I wonder if he knew that though.

XelaM · 26/05/2025 20:55

The most unusual thing about it is that he didn't seem to be talking to anyone untoward online and had no phone. So how would he have been groomed by someone in London?
