What do you think happened to Andrew Gosden?

Cheffymcchef · 26/05/2025 19:35

Andrew Gosden was a 14-year-old boy from Doncaster, England, who vanished on September 14, 2007. He left home for school as usual but instead withdrew £200 from his bank account, changed into casual clothes, and bought a one-way train ticket to London King's Cross on a Friday morning. CCTV captured him arriving at the station at 11:25 AM, and that was the last confirmed sighting of him. Despite numerous appeals, media coverage, and even arrests in 2021 related to potential human trafficking, Andrew has never been found, and his disappearance remains one of the UK’s most baffling missing person cases. Andrew was a high achiever at school with 100% attendance and had never gone missing before. The school misdialled his parents when he did not show up, and when his parents returned from work they did not realise Andrew was missing, until dinner time when he did not appear at the table. They presumed he was in the basement gaming.

andrrw had lost two mobile phones in succession and had no home internet access or computer until the gosdens got it 8 weeks before he vanished. his sisters computer- the only one in the house- was checked, and nothing untoward found.

It’s such a little known case compared to Madeline McCann that I thought it would be good to remind everyone on here.

I personally think Andrew had been groomed by someone local who arranged to meet him that day and offered him a lift back. I think this person knew of the family and had probably been grooming Andrew for a long time. I do have someone in mind although obviously will not name names on this sub.

Bizarre comment. I think you are projecting. How sad you don’t want there to be posts raising awareness. It’s almost like you don’t want them to be found, don’t want people to know there is still a missing child out there.

Nowhere was anyone “salivating” on here, and I have found out about a case on here I would’ve have known about otherwise. Other people probably haven’t heard of poor Andrew, this may be the first time.

Andrew’s parents are well aware people repost his case on forums and are very supportive of it. I hope that helps you feel better.

You keep telling yourself that, love

But wasn't he seen at Kings Cross railwaystation? If he was, why would that point to someone local?

someone local would obviously not want to be seen by people they knew rid of Andrew, and London is a city Andrew had travelled to multiple times before and was familiar with. So groomer knew Andrew could make it there with no trouble/ no need to ask anyone.

what I don’t understand is why it had to be Friday and why he couldn’t wait until after school. His parents let their daughter roam London alone at 14 to hand out CV’s, stands to reason they’d also let Andrew.

I think you’re projecting awfully with ‘drooling’ and ‘salivating.’

I think it would probably be worse to never have them mentioned. A lot of families in these situations struggle to keep any focus on the search for their loved one, and so, while social media / news is a double-edged sword, it’s often better than the alternative.

Do search out the Nicola Bulley threads on here and then come back to tell me how you're right

Are you suggesting that all posts, posters and threads are the same with the same intentions? Are you always so confrontational, derogatory and black and white about discussions?

They are trolling on several threads, I would ignore

@Cheffymcchef I have also often what happened to Andrew.
If you know who it might have been who groomed him (if thats what happened)....... surely you should be reporting that name to the police? Not speculating on here.

blacksantanapkin · 26/05/2025 21:13

It’s a really sad and strange case. There doesn’t seem to be any plausible theory but obviously something happened. I can never understand how he managed to vanish into thin air in London of all places, unbelievable there wasn’t more CCTV etc. I don’t see any issues in discussing and speculating at this point, it’s been years and years so awareness and interest is a positive thing, otherwise his story will just fade into obscurity.

They were too busy assuming Andrew was a teenage runaway and then blaming his father. They messed up big time. Sad but true that a child who disappeared like Madeleine McCann or Jamie Bulger would get far more attention than a fourteen year old who packed up and left of their own accord.

I often think about this case and Lars mittank I just can't imagine what it's like for the family just never knowing. I think its hard to guess/assume what happened with Andrew as he bought a one way ticket despite a return being only like a £1 different and emptied his bank account like he was planning not to come back but on the other side of that he didn't take his charger for his handheld games console and he didn't take his money from his room, he didn't leave a note. It always amazes me with missing people's cases how people can just vanish and not be seen by anyone or picked up on cameras anywhere.

Cheffymcchef · 26/05/2025 21:21

XelaM · 26/05/2025 20:55

The most unusual thing about it is that he didn't seem to be talking to anyone untoward online and had no phone. So how would he have been groomed by someone in London?

i mean, he’d lost two phones in quick succession, it wasn’t definite that he wasn’t using one. Teenagers can be secretive. Andrew also had family in London. That said I don’t think he was groomed by someone from there.

Absolutely I think anything that brings awareness to missing people is a good thing. The Lars Mittank cases is worth a look on you tube probably the most strangest missing person case iv ever heard of

Notashamed13 · 26/05/2025 21:34

I actually reported a sighting of Andrew on a train to London Marylebone on the day he was confirmed to have been last seen leaving Doncaster. I never had any follow up but certain it was him. I remember it was freezing and he was only wearing a tshirt (pretty sure was Slip Knot) which is why I took notice.

pinkdelight · 26/05/2025 21:37

There’s a section on mumsnet for Unsolved Mysteries with lots of threads like this on it including ones about this case. You might want to move it there so it’s not going to upset people like PPs by categorising it as chit chat.

I don’t care if it “upsets” people like PP, they have an option to click off the thread. There are far more posters here and more awareness will be raised

I can only assume that the police didn't think it was him I saw....he got on at Haddenham and Thame Parkway which would not have corresponded to any of the "known routes" he took, but I wouldn't have phoned if I wasn't suspicious......I was 23 at the time and specifically remember debating with my parents whether I should phone or not, they told me not to as it couldn't have been him but I did.....

I remember Andrew’s dad saying him and his wife investigated a lot of sightings themselves as police didn’t follow loads up

I think he was probably using one of the phones he claims he lost in the weeks before he went missing.

I haven’t even heard of him. Threads like these are so important to raise awareness of cases like this that other people might not have heard of.

I agree completely and I’m sure his parents would want his story to be kept in the public gaze. I hope one day he will be found safe.
