When did you’re baby sleep through?

Hey guys I’m just curious really I’m on baby number 4.
combined breast feeding and bottle. Mainly bottle now (formula)
I put him down at 7.30 in his own crib after a feed.
sometimes he’ll sleep till 11 for a feed. Sometimes he’s niggly every hour ! It’s hit and miss.
then from 11.30 he’ll go through till 4 at best. But from 4 he’s not very settled.
he brings his wind up easy now so it’s not that.
im so knackered it’s un real. Hes 5 months old.

his 11pm feed he has 5 ounce formula.
any tips and tricks?
he also still has to be swaddled or he’d hardly sleep at all xx

My first is 3.5 and started sleeping through 4 weeks ago. Before that he was waking once or twice a night, until he was 2.5 he woke every 3 hours.

My second is 7 weeks and sleeps 7:30 - 12:30, feeds then and sleeps until 6am.

It's so, so child dependent.

SabbatWheel · 22/05/2025 21:14

11 weeks.
Small baby on tiny feeds, but she loved her sleep!

Mrsttcno1 · 22/05/2025 21:15

My daughter is 13 months and still has never slept through the night other than I think possibly 3 totally random fluke’s. I’m not doing anything differently to my friend who’s baby sleeps 7-7 or my other friend who’s baby is up every single hour, we all follow the same night time routine, babies are just all different

When she started reception 😬

FrankyGoesToBollywood · 22/05/2025 21:16

ended up sleep training at 14 months as they were still up four times a night

JellyAnd · 22/05/2025 21:18

You can’t swaddle a 5MO- it’s really dangerous because they could roll over and get stuck face down, even if he hasn’t done it yet he’s going to do it any day now and you really don’t want the first time to be in the cot overnight.

But as for sleeping through one of mine was 6 weeks and never woke again in the night unless unwell to the point of throwing up. The other was 6 months to sleep through most of the time but wasn’t reliable until 1. I did all the major stuff exactly the same. But alas babies are individuals!

Sofiewoo · 22/05/2025 21:18

Are you and the dad taking it in turns? Since baby is bottle fed he should absolutely be staying up to do the 11pm bottle or getting up for the 4am one at least a couple of times a week.

As far as sleeping through the night, DC1 from 9 almost 10 months, DC2 not reliably until 18m.

1 child...she finally slept through consistently (like more than the odd 1/2 night streak) at age 6.

However, to caveat, she does have a chronic condition and was rarely not in discomfort til they found the right med regime.

My son is 3.5 years old and slept through for the first time in his life the other night after having sedation in hospital for a scan 🫠

Can I just ask what happens when your 3.5 year old wakes? Like do they cry for you every time?

I’m always just curious when people say their older kid didn’t sleep through until until 4/5/6 what the kid expects at that age?

Devilsmommy · 22/05/2025 21:24

Mine was 15 months when he first slept through the night. It wasn't anything I did, they just do it when they're ready. It'll happen but unfortunately there's no way to tell when

DandelionPockets · 22/05/2025 21:25

At 7months old when we put him in his own room he started sleeping through about 3 nights out of 7 (7pm-6am). Literally a week before that he was in our room and waking once an hour - just hated sharing a room I think.

Gradually over time got to the point where 9 out of 10 nights he sleeps through now at 20 months old and if he does wake it's normal a quick cuddle and back down for the rest of the night. This is apart from illness or weird developmental bumps in the road when sleep can go to pot!

I think the sleep you describe sounds pretty good for 5 months. From 4am could you co-sleep so both of you can snooze a bit?

AliBaliBee1234 · 22/05/2025 21:25

10 weeks but he's just a sleep lover. Only thing we did was naps in the daylight with background noise but bedtime is darker/silent.

redgingerbread · 22/05/2025 21:26

Mine would wake screaming like a soul in torment and need breastfeeding (until I weaned him), cuddling or to get into bed with us. I read all the books and posts saying ‘just let them grumble a bit and they go back to sleep’ and wonder whether it was me or the writer that was from another planet. Some babies/children are just a lot more sensitive/high needs than others.

Yes she would cry, but often because she was bleeding and in pain. She suffers with a chronic skin condition it's basis is eczema but far more severe and is now on a chemo drug to suppress her immune system.

By the time I could calm her, clean her and the bed up she would be wide awake.

As a result she developed a fear of being alone and of going to bed, she would scream and cry until she was sick. We tried everything and nothing helped.

Once her chemo regime kicked in, and she trusted she wouldn't wake up covered in blood she finally trusted enough to sleep

Ds1 was about 15 months, Ds2 was 2 years, Ds3 was 14 years, ds4 was 5 months, ds5 is 10 years old and still doesn't sleep through the night.

This is good to hear - mine is 6 months and when she’s awake in the night she’s screaming awake not happily babbling to herself!

avocadotofu · 22/05/2025 21:52

Around three.

Autumn1990 · 22/05/2025 21:54

My first still doesn’t sleep through he’s 8. My second about 15 months. Once they can walk they just come and find you ime. Now I just wake up in the morning with a child in bed who wasn’t there when I went to sleep

Pelvicpaininthebum · 22/05/2025 21:54

My first 8 months, second 15 months.

hadenough500 · 22/05/2025 21:56

Thanks everyone I feel better now. Knowing you all suffered aswell lol (sorry)

When she was 9 yo she stopped waking me up.

lucya66 · 22/05/2025 22:05

6 months when we sleep trained and moved to own room.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 22/05/2025 23:08

DS1 - 6 months
DS2 - 8 months

Both in their own rooms from 10 weeks and slept through on their own (I'd planned to sleep train at 9 months if not)
