People who don't like any kind of music

I used to think that music was such a universal thing, something that humans have been making and sharing for millenia, and that liking it was part of the human condition. And with so many different types of music, from pop, classical, Venezuelan nose flutes, whistling & even tapping your fingers to a beat - there is something for everyone.

But I remember reading something about someone who just hated all and any forms of music! I couldn't really believe it. And I still don't really belive it.

I can't imagine a world without music, I think it taps into a part of our brain in a way that nothing else can.
And I'm not talking about people who just don't really listen to music much, or can take it or leave it. I'm talking about those who actively avoid music.

Is there anyone out there like this who truly hates all forms of music?

I don't listen to music, ever. When I was a child I knew that when my mum played music it was the signal that she was drunk and I was getting a beating so I can't listen to any now. Weirdly, I can't sit in silence. I have to have background noise at all waking hours or I panic. Life is funny!

My son hates music but he has autism

I always loved music, brought up my DC to love it too.

DC played an instrument to a high level and listened to all genres.

Fast forward past a long story, but once DC died and I survived I have completely lost any joy in music. I find it too emotional, too triggering.

@icantwaitforsummer and you're an arseh*le for calling people weirdos.
My son has autism and hasn't shown any interest in music. Worries me he will have to grow up with thick and ignorant people calling him a weirdo.

Everyone is different. Not everyone fits the 'norm'. Some people don't like children, or alcohol, or sex and prefer to be alone rather than with friends. Some people on here need to grow up and question why they have these assumptions about 'universal human behaviour.

Current research finds between 3 and 5% of people have specific musical anhedonia. It is a disconnect between auditory center of the brain and the pleasure center.

I don’t like music. Hearing it makes me feel bad, the opposite of what it’s supposed to do. I have always been like this, even as a child.

I always used to listen to music whilst driving - radio or my choice. Now I can’t stand it and drive in silence. The peace is blissful. It’s hard to describe but hearing music in that small space is almost painful. Sets me on edge.
