Any sympathy for the British drug mule in Georgia?

I was reading about this girl and actually do have a little symapthy. She is obviously vain, stupid, misguidedly ambitious but I don't know whether she is real player in the drug trade and has probably been groomed into carrying drugs by men promising her the earth.

The penalties for drug smuggling are understandably harsh on Georgia but should the UK try and get her to serve a sentence in the UK?

Drug arrest girl 'in China scam to foil Amazon ban'

Culley, 18, is said to have received £550 in return for her passport information, which was then used to open a business account on the digital marketplace.

No. It’s her own fault

SwanOfThoseThings · 18/05/2025 08:43

I've been following this. I don't sympathise based on the social media posts of her pouting with a fistful of banknotes and comparing herself to Bonnie of Bonnie and Clyde; she seems to have revelled in her criminality.

It's not really relevant to her crime, but the sheer vanity that comes across in those social media posts is staggering - those ridiculous scrunchy duck pouts, endless mirror selfies in a bikini - it suggests someone completely empty-headed.

And drug dealers always target vulnerable people to do their dirty work.

Everything she has done and has posted screams low IQ.
People looking for drug mules must have seen her a mile off.
Young, white, incredibly stupid, naive, wants to be loved, stupid parents, not street wise, easliy influenced.
She obviosuly isnt the mastermind here, she was targeted as a potential drug mule, probably love bombed and becuase she is js stupid, just went with it.

This!

Sympathy? No. Why on earth should I?

I didn't feel any for the moronic Peru Two either and am pretty sure one of them wrote a tell all book of their 'ordeal' when they were released to claw back a few of the quid they lost when their stash of drugs were taken away. So we've possibly got that to look forward to here as well 🙄

Edited

Wasn't it one of them who did the tv programme?

(Edit: Yes it was, Confessions of an Ibiza Drug Mule)

She said she thought Peru was another island, or somewhere up the coast. Utterly lacking in brain power.

No sympathy, if you look at her social media posts she knew what she was doing.

This I am afraid. She boasted and posted. About the drugs and the drug dealing and the money and the sex.

I have a certain sympathy for any young person who has an excess of bravado and stupidity and who has it come home to roost. But she was parading her activities all over tiktok FFS. The first thing I said to DH was 'fuck around and find out'.

I hope she has merely a strong lesson. I hope others who wished to emulate learn hard and fast. I hope she is not in jail for her life and I am glad there is no death penalty as i understand it in Georgia.

Todayisaday · 18/05/2025 08:49

When i was 21 I travelled in thailand and we met this nice group of lads living there fom our home town who we hang around with. They gave me a book 'forget you had a daughter' an auto biography of a girl who this happened to. And endes up doing a decade in a thai prison.
Suggest this reading for anyone whos kids are travelling or planning to.
It explains how a nice kid can end up like this.
Its a good book to read regardless and anyone with interest in how this can happen should read it.

I have zero sympathy for Drug Smugglers .Young or not most people know this to be wrong and would not do it .The British Grandma Lyndsay Sandiford arrested and in jail since 2012 ,for smuggling Cocaine still felt she would not be in jail very long! Bella doesnt seem the brightest of sparks to be fair .No doubt countless human rights lawyers will be paid vast sums ,to try to gain her freedom .There also seems some question as to whether she is pregnant or not?

I wonder of you'd feel like this if one of your children did something daft at 18. I don't think the seriousness of things really sink in when you are that age.

So on that basis... Does she deserve leniency?

She clearly realised what she was doing was criminal.

WhenYouSayNothingAtAll · 18/05/2025 08:50

She wanted the Bonnie and Clyde lifestyle…

Kiwi83 · 18/05/2025 08:51

Yes she should be punished but she's young and silly and that has been exploited, she shouldn't face life in prison while the people that masterminded this plan and the actual drug dealers get away with it.

what would you prefer to be hearing?

Nominative · 18/05/2025 08:54

I don't really understand the report. How does being signed up to help Chinese retailers to get around the Amazon ban lead to drug smuggling?

It seems pretty clear anyway that this was certainly not the first time she has done this, so she has caused a lot of misery and, potentially, deaths. She certainly deserves to be penalised for her crimes.

BobbyBiscuits · 18/05/2025 08:54

I get the impression she was besotted with some scummy bloke and she was trying to look hard/cool whatever.. being a massive 'pick me' type character? She clearly is ridiculously naive and stupid. Why did she think she wouldn't get caught? All over a bit of fucking puff.

She probably thinks this whole debacle will turn her into an overnight celebrity. Maybe Only fans is the next step in her 'career'? At least that's legal! She's probably too lazy to do that even.

Littlelambsy · 18/05/2025 08:54

Obviously a very stupid thing to do (if it was her choice). I don’t personally think she should be locked up for years though, as she isn’t a violent criminal, although I know people love to see ‘punishment’ carried through. It’s also a waste of a life, at 18. :( sad.

Bluebellwood129 · 18/05/2025 08:54

No sympathy. She's 18 - old enough to take responsibility for her actions. She thought she'd found an easy way to make money and she got caught.

Drug smuggling is NOT doing something daft.

I have absolute zero sympathy and hope she spends a long time in prison.

I don't know the full story as I'm not reading any Daily Mail links. But she was 18?! Christ, she's still a bloody child. You don't suddenly turn into fully mature adult on the day you turn 18. Just because an 18 year old knows the law, doesn't mean they have developed enough to fully understand the reality of that. 18 year old do stupid things all the time. They are still learning. That poor girl and her poor family.

18yo's know that drug smuggling is wrong! She's not 5 or something 😆 she's only sorry she got caught! And now she's saying she's pregnant hoping that'll get her sympathy

Fuck me, I did spectacularly stupid things at 19 - like buggering off to spend the summer living in a camper van with my boyfriend and getting pregnant.

Never even crossed my mind that parking on a yellow line was an option, let alone trafficking fucking drugs.

Exactly, just the exact type of person to be groomed to carry drugs. She thought she was living her best life, they were laughing at her stupidity and making her cannon fodder.

Cynicalaboutall · 18/05/2025 08:57

Christ, do none of you know any 18yo girls. They have an undeveloped cerebral cortex, they’re still children.
She has ruined her whole life over one stupid mistake, of course I feel compassion for her.

Comparing herself to Bonnie Parker, robber and multiple murderer? Come off it!

MrsPlantagenet · 18/05/2025 08:58

I do feel sorry for her because she’s clearly a vacuous idiot.

But she absolutely deserves a custodial sentence.

springintoaction321 · 18/05/2025 08:58

She was stopped in Tbilisi in a suspected sting where officers allegedly found 12kg of cannabis and 2kg of hashish in her luggage.

That's quite a lot of drugs. And probably beyond stupid.
