Do you pay for ChatGPT?

Or it’s equivalent

I started off by refusing to use it and then used it once or twice for a few work related bits and pieces.

it’s now cooour seasoned me, gives me outfit feedback, does my meal plan for the week and everything in between. So I took the plunge and paid an extortionate 20 quid a month for it

I’m also aware of the fact it’s not particularly environmentally friendly so that’s a bit of an internal wrangle too

do you use it and if so, what for?

I'm using the free version to try to work out a good routine for my daughter, it's giving me something to work with but it does make assumptions and forget things.

I thought it was going to make me pay if I wanted to continue but still using it for free so far. My understanding of the payment option though is that £18 a month is for less advanved reasoning than the free version? What's the difference, what do you actually get when you pay for it?

Finteq · 11/05/2025 21:34

I think I'm a dinosaur

I've never used it

Switcher · 11/05/2025 21:37

I hate it, but maybe that's because I have to implement it for work. And people keep wanting it to answer maths questions. It's just always fucking wrong and then people are like "it was wrong, I thought it was supposed to learn stuff". Yeah, sorta. We literally make people tick a box to say they understand it's bad at maths and then they get really pissy when it hallucinates halfway through whatever they're trying to make it do.

PsychoHotSauce · 11/05/2025 21:39

LightCameraBitchSmile · 11/05/2025 21:06

Perhaps you could ask it to explain the concepts of inequality, disposable income, and the poverty line?

I'm good thanks. 'Expensive' and 'extortionate' imply 'overpriced' and poor value for money. It might be outside of some people's budget (arguably mine, but I wouldn't be without it), but it was a reasonable question. It's always updating and evolving and <touch wood> the price hasn't gone up in the years I've had it.

Now, their higher tier sub is $200 a month. THAT is expensive!

MoveOnTheCards · 11/05/2025 21:41

By the time you’ve put in all the prompts, revised based on the first responses etc surely you may as well have just done it yourself or googled?!

Nor had I until 2 minutes ago.

It's surprisingly fun 😲

ColouringBookMaker · 11/05/2025 21:43

I do - I accidentally fell into making colouring books and chatgpt is amazing for making them. Without paying you get 3 images a day and it’s just not enough.

I now have a small colouring book empire (selling around 5 per day on average)

mindutopia · 11/05/2025 21:46

Never used it once. On ideological grounds really. But I’m also a dinosaur. I still maintain a paper diary. I make actual shopping lists and I don’t own an Alexa. Dh only persuaded me to download a banking app a few years ago. I’m mid 40s but fairly technology resistant (which is actually hilarious because I do research on digital life and apps 😂).

socks1107 · 11/05/2025 21:51

@BatchCookBabeI reached a real stall and it helped me reassess my calories, it has projected my weight loss for mini goals and makes comments on measurements. I get it to look and before and now photos to check there’s visible difference which keeps me motivated. I also did a colour analysis and it matched me well.
I find it has kept me motivated the last few months

Ponderingwindow · 11/05/2025 22:01

Why would you pay for that? I’ve used the free version and it can be a guidepost, but it is just as likely to spit out utter nonsense.

I mean, try asking it to write a biography for yourself. It will create utter fiction, but have enough accurate details that someone might actually believe it is true.

So it's The Daily Mail editor? 😁

Divebar2021 · 11/05/2025 22:03

I pay because there was a limit on the numbers of documents that it would “read” and I had quite a few I wanted to upload. I’ve used it to research a variety of topics for DD’s homework and recently wrote a job application in about the quarter the time. I’ve uploaded about half my wardrobe for styling sessions and we have frequent conversations about my random Charity shop purchases and the benefits of various clothing items im considering. I’ve also uploaded my content from Goodreads ( book titles and reviews) and it’s formulated a reading list for me based on my criteria. We’ll see how on the money it is but 2 of the recommendations I had read and loved so I’m fairly confident.
I’ve tried another AI which was granted much better at cryptic crosswords but somehow a bit drier. I know that’s a weird statement but ChatGPT is funny.

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 22:04

@PragmaticIshyes photos. Good clear shots showing hair and eye colour in decent light. Also will do your body type too

Same. I feel so old.

Divebar2021 · 11/05/2025 22:05

Oh and I was just in a charity shop and uploaded some photos of the book section and it picked out some titles it thought I might like including one on my reading list.

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 22:05

@Ponderingwindowwhy would pay for it? Because I want to and am finding it useful. You feel differently and that’s equally valid

I was gonna say the same.

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 22:16

Those saying it spits out nonsense or returns works of fiction, I’ve not found this at all.

it was helpful with tonight’s question. I want a rose bush with a specific name to remember my mum by. I’ve tried for a few years to find one without any luck. It found me one on Etsy in a few seconds with a handful remaining. So I’m happy with that

I’m using it for work and have started writing a side hustle course to sell - because of chat gpt. It helped me work out how to frame what I know as a course. I have wanted to do it for years but couldn’t work out the “how”. Chat GPT broke it all down into steps and gave me feedback on my content which was direct and blunt - because I asked for that.

How do you upload content from Goodreads to ChatGPT?

Divebar2021 · 11/05/2025 22:19

I just screenshotted a few pages of Goodreads books read and uploaded those.

KitsyWitsy · 11/05/2025 22:19

Yes. It's invaluable to me for checking code or explaining errors that come up. I pay also for the functionality of being able to upload documents to it. I can upload briefs and supporting files then and ask it for advice.

thisisfrommathilda · 11/05/2025 22:20

Best money i have ever spent.

RausageSoul · 11/05/2025 22:22

PsychoHotSauce · 11/05/2025 20:42

I've paid for it for about 2 years. Wouldn't be without it. Do people really think 24 dollars a month is expensive?

You should use your premium subscription for tips on not being so condescending.

CamillaMacauley · 11/05/2025 22:27

It definitely makes stuff up.

i asked it to summarise the conclusion of some recently published research and it told me the research was published in 2021 and gave me a detailed summary. So I told it the findings weren’t published until 2025. It said sorry for the earlier confusion and said the results aren’t published yet. I told it that the results were published last week and it’s adamant they’re not. I put the link to the results of the trial andti5 still says the results aren’t published yet.

will try giving it the pdf tomorrow
