Do you pay for ChatGPT?

Or it’s equivalent

I started off by refusing to use it and then used it once or twice for a few work related bits and pieces.

it’s now cooour seasoned me, gives me outfit feedback, does my meal plan for the week and everything in between. So I took the plunge and paid an extortionate 20 quid a month for it

I’m also aware of the fact it’s not particularly environmentally friendly so that’s a bit of an internal wrangle too

do you use it and if so, what for?

CamillaMacauley · 11/05/2025 17:50

I’m thinking of starting paying. I use the free version a lot but it’s started giving me about 3 responses a day on the paid for version and it’s much more in-depth. But I use it for work so will often use it more than three times a day.

Also use it for day trip plans, holiday itinerary. Went to a city I’d never been to before and gave it a list of shops I wanted to visit and asked it to plan the best walking route between all the shops and to add in a good lunch stop and it was great.

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 18:11

Yeah @CamillaMacauleyim addicted! It’s so helpful and it’s actually replacing Google for me

mightymam · 11/05/2025 20:38

Oooooh, I’ve become addicted to it and have been toying with the idea of subscribing to it but can’t justify the costs… following this thread with interest.

PsychoHotSauce · 11/05/2025 20:42

I've paid for it for about 2 years. Wouldn't be without it. Do people really think 24 dollars a month is expensive?

I think most people probably think the free version is sufficient. If it wasn’t for work I wouldn’t be considering paying.

oustedbymymate · 11/05/2025 20:48

How do you get it to do meal
Plans?

Smoronic · 11/05/2025 20:51

I do because I was spending an hour agonising about how to word an email (I am not exaggerating) and it's solved it completely. We are also encouraged to use it at work.

WhatdoIkno · 11/05/2025 20:51

I use it at work, but prefer Perplexity; have been paying for it for the past few months to act as a coach for spoken Spanish GCSE and Latin GCSE, which has worked very well.

SingWithMeJustForToday · 11/05/2025 20:57

not particularly environmentally friendly

That's the understatement of the century...

I use it for work and sometimes for meal ideas etc - I don't use it to replace Google; because I think that's a dangerous road to start down. It's not a search engine, it's an LLM. Its core purpose at the end of the day is to guess the next word. It is frequently wrong; because it guesses wrong, forgets things or makes things up; or its sources are wrong... It's not going to help misinformation.

Perhaps you could ask it to explain the concepts of inequality, disposable income, and the poverty line?

londongirl12 · 11/05/2025 21:15

What does the paid version do? I’ve used it loads but I don’t pay for anything…

How do you get it to do meal
Plans?

Just give it a prompt with as much detail as possible.

eg

Can you make me a days meal plan for 1800 calories with 140-160g of protein, approx 160g-189g of carbs and approx 60g of fat

or

can you make a weeks meal plan for me. I’m vegetarian and gluten free, I don’t want to spend more than 20 mins prepping the evening meal though cooking time can be longer. 4 lunches a week need to be packed lunches that I can take to work. I do not like cabbage.

Loveduppenguin · 11/05/2025 21:20

You don’t need to pay for AI “lechat” is the exact same…eu based and not American. Does a lot more than ChatGPT as far as I can see for no charge. Just download the app and log in…

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 21:21

@oustedbymymatewell, I usually tell it that I’ll be shopping at Waitrose, that I’d like 5 evening meals suggested with links to recipes, using specific ingredients from the Waitrose essential range and with a budget of £80 for those 5 meals. I ask it to include chicken, beef and salmon and so on and so forth

you can be very specific. It’ll do every supermarket, every budget, just tell it what you want

I can’t bring myself to pay for it but it’s been a real aid to my weight loss. I love it

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 21:23

@londongirl12I was using the free version too but you do get so so much more when you pay. Like all things in life I suppose!

my job involves having to plan a route to visit approximately 15 houses each week. The area and houses chafe each week.

it puts every address in the logical order that I should visit them. Route planning usually takes me an hour

OP posts:
BatchCookBabe · 11/05/2025 21:25

LOL no. Why would I when it's free?!

How? How was it an aid to your weight loss? (If you don't mind me asking.) Blush

FoxChops · 11/05/2025 21:26

@socks1107and yeah that was me. Adamant I wasn’t paying as I think 20 quid a month is expensive. And here I am

it’s very good for styling advice if that’s your thing. I’ve asked it to be kind but properly critical about my outfits. And I’ve deliberately tested it by putting on stuff I know doesn’t flatter me (such as a pale blue floaty maxi dress which isn’t my colour, and is nothing like the closer fitting stuff I usually wear) and it was kind but said quite adamantly that the dress was a NO

OP posts:
FoxChops · 11/05/2025 21:27

@BatchCookBabesaid the same myself. Was definitely not gonna pay for it. Couldn’t think why I’d need to

then I did and it’s a whole different level

How do you get it to do meal
Plans?

Off the back of this thread I just asked chatgpt to write me a weekly meal plan with high protein and low cholesterol. It gave me a plan and I asked it to revise without the items I named that I don't like. It then offered to write a shopping list for those meals.

CyberStrider · 11/05/2025 21:28

No, I think I've used the free version 3 times and it's always returned works of fiction

Did you upload photos? I just asked it to do my colour analysis and it offered to do it from photos or from my own descriptions.

Cyclingandrunning · 11/05/2025 21:30

Ive got the premium version. I think it's 18-19 pounds per month. It's making me really efficient and quick at my job.

I'm now viewing it as an essential tool

tellmesomethingtrue · 11/05/2025 21:30

I use it for my mental health and it also helped me identify that I am in an abusive relationship.
