If someone is selling hundreds of new items on Vinted, do you think they are shoplifted?

Just that really.
It seemed to be mainly underwear, all new with tags.

Or am I being cynical?

I think it’s very likely, yes.

ButteredRadishes · 10/05/2025 22:49

Yes, or they've raided charity shops etc and selling for a profit.

FknOmniShambles · 10/05/2025 22:50

Definitely.
Same as the woman on my local FB page selling industrial sized boxes of laundry powder. One click on her profile shows she works in a local fancy hotel. Hmm!

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 10/05/2025 22:53

Could be from a failed business venture.

ilovesooty · 10/05/2025 22:54

Probably.

Gowlett · 10/05/2025 22:55

Is it all the one brand? Maybe selling off stock from a failed business. Was just thinking today, that Nick Knowles lady-friend, who used pics of him & her to promote her underwear line, can’t be selling too many pants, with that sort of marketing…

Hamandpineapplepizza · 10/05/2025 22:56

Yes, I assume stolen

CillaBlackSmith · 10/05/2025 22:56

It's many different brands but all well known high street brands.

Sometimes supermarkets sell off their stock to staff and the sell it on

SnorElla · 10/05/2025 23:12

Nah, maybe they got a palette of returns or dead stock. I’ve got a local lady I buy tons of new with tags clothes from for selling on Vinted - she gets them from palettes

ScarletWitchM · 10/05/2025 23:21

Anyone on Vinted selling loads of brand new stuff is dodgy and they are either stolen, fakes or they will scam you. Report to Vinted and stay away

RogueRascal · 10/05/2025 23:25

I tend to only sell brand new or very good condition stuff. Lots of baby stuff that I was gifted but too disorganised to remember to use before baby grew or sale stuff I bought for myself then decided it wasn’t really me. Defo depends on the page I think though there are an awful lot of people reselling for profit on there these days :( and fakes…. Some of the trainer sellers baffle me with how they don’t get banned

FortyFacedFuckers · 10/05/2025 23:30

I had a huge clear out after losing weight and sold hundreds of items that were all new with tags that I have bought over the years and never worn

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 11/05/2025 00:13

A local auction house near me sells loads of branded new clothing in big lots, presumably via bankrupcies or businesses closing down, so it would be possible for them to be buying cheaply at auction somewhere, dividing the lots up and selling the items individually.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 11/05/2025 01:18

It’s always my first thought tbh.
i would scroll on

Vinted doesn't let people sell lots of new items without making them get a business account and doing an ID check.

VanilleFraise · 11/05/2025 09:28

I'm a member of a few dumpster diving groups on fb and quite a lot of people seem to sell on their finds.

Paaseitjes · 11/05/2025 10:33

It's fairly easy to get returns and surplus stock. When I volunteered in a charity shop we'd get huge crates of speedo swimsuits, Ted Baker stuff and M&S knicker multi packs with one missing

dontcryformeargentina · 11/05/2025 10:54

In any case, Vinted will report them
to HMRC after they sell 30 items or reach £1700 target whichever comes first.

DrFoxtrot · 11/05/2025 11:09

My XH used to buy job lots of old clothing stock and sell it in an eBay shop so I wouldn’t automatically think stolen straight away.

IDontHateRainbows · 11/05/2025 11:45

Wrong thread!

GingerBeverage · 12/08/2025 15:17

Vinted is a massive fence. Stolen goods, counterfeits.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 12/08/2025 15:31

I always look at what other items a vinted seller has listed and avoid those who seem to be doing it as a business whether stolen or bought in pallets or to resell from charity shops because I have had several bad experiences with them.

I only buy from those who appear to be selling their own genuinely unwanted stuff.

Anybody listing a huge range of clothes or shoe sizes or multiple new beauty items has always been dodgy in my experience.

GameOfJones · 12/08/2025 15:46

I would always assume stolen, yes.
