Just that ....?

It's definitely better for not wasting food - I agree with every 4 or 5 days being a good frequency. I think I'd feel bad about doing it if I lived rurally as it would mean more van trips to where I lived, but as it is I live in a busy town so I know the vans are in streets near me every day anyway.

gohomeroger1 · 10/05/2025 20:35

Sunday for packed lunch stuff being fresh then Thursday for the weekend.

I'm pretty sure it costs me more in petrol (and time) to go to the supermarket.

We have the Morrisons delivery pass... £7 a month, £25 minimum spend. Normally get deliveries Monday and Friday.

Also biweekly works better for us as DDs food tech lessons sometimes give short notice of ingredients.

ObstreperousCushion · 10/05/2025 20:40

I got a bigger fridge and freezer (old ones broke), and that has made shopping weekly a lot easier.

I do get milk from the milkman, but apart from that I find the new fridge keeps things fresh for so much longer that I don’t find things go off before the end of the week. I hadn’t realised how crap my old one had become. Though I do freeze meat/fish if I’m not using them in the next day or two.

Annoyingsquirrels · 10/05/2025 20:45

I get 2 a week from different supermarkets as some items are better value at each which easily makes up for the additional delivery charge. I have an ocado mid week pass for £4 a month and then alternate waitrose and Tesco at the weekend using their £2 flexi slots.

SevernWonders · 10/05/2025 20:49

I have a Morrisons delivery pass - their minimum shop is £25, so I get one every other day as I am so disorganised that I can't think further than that. No longer have to do top up shops.

Not for me it isn’t, always spend more that way, petrol etc.

Prefer to get off my arse to do more enjoyable things than food shop!

Changeyourlifes · 10/05/2025 20:52

you should explain what exactly the cost involved is before anyone can say whether it is cost effective

if the only downside is paying more in delivery fees, but you have a delivery pass, then there doesn’t really seem to be a downside

Barrenfieldoffucks · 10/05/2025 20:55

I do. Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Usually covers most eventualities.

Eh? It's absolutely more cost effective for me - I'm an 8 mile round trip to the nearest corner shop and a 28 mile round trip to the nearest supermarket.

Plus supermarkets are designed to make you buy more stuff in store (Aldi middle aisle anyone) so my online shop spend is always less than when I have to physically go in.

leflaten · 10/05/2025 20:57

You'd have the hassle of waiting in for deliveries twice though, which I wouldn't want. We can only schedule deliveries on weekday evenings 6pm so DH can be there to help (need another adult to keep an eye on dcs) and sometimes it's been 2 hours late. Makes it hard to get on with the evening routine when we're waiting around for the Tesco delivery. We don't find food gets wasted with one weekly delivery - we just accept we'll eat soft fruits amd salads on certain days only.

PlanBea · 10/05/2025 20:57

We get two deliveries a week (Monday morning and Friday morning) but I shop for Friday tea in the Monday shop and Monday tea in the Friday shop so if we have an errant substitution it gives us a bit more flexibility and more chances to get the missing offer. I'm not sure if it is more cost effective than going into the store as some of the value range isn't available to buy online, but it does limit the impulse buys so I figure it balances out! The lack of fridge Jenga is also a good bonus.

I am disabled and the cost of the pass is just one of those disabled costs for me, there's no way I could manage going to the supermarket multiple times a week, or managing a whole weekly shop on one go, so the delivery pass is a must here.

Lovelysummerdays · 10/05/2025 21:02

I get two a week, I prefer it as we don’t always get through stuff at the same rate. Some weeks we race through milk, bread, bananas other weeks we don’t. Also stuff often comes out with a 2 day use by which is problematic if shopping for the week. I do divide cupboard/ cleaning stuff/ freezer stuff I’ve the two shops.

CatsorDogsrule · 10/05/2025 21:04

I live rurally and have an Ocado mid-week pass, so get Tues and Thurs, after previously making do with just a Weds as I can easily meet the £40 minimum for each.

I also have a Tesco after 3pm pass, so often get one on a Sat or Sun too. Although my local Tesco (10 miles) now has Click and Collect, so I do this sometimes instead if I'll be in the town for something else, as the delivery slots usually need to be booked a week in advance. Certainly not more cost effective to go in store myself several times a week when shopping for a large family.

doodleschnoodle · 10/05/2025 21:06

That’s a good idea actually, I think we will try it. Might avoid the last few days of the week where all the good stuff is gone and DD1’s play piece for school is like a broken cracker and a piece of carrot.

Radionowhere · 10/05/2025 21:09

No, not for us. I've gone back down one a week. I buy less junk over the week with only one delivery.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 10/05/2025 21:13

I get one a month! But I have a co-op, big Tesco and small Tesco within a 15 min walk for top ups.

I used to have a delivery pass, but couldn't get my brain around weekly shops for some reason.

Benefits of my way are I have to walk to the shop regularly which is good for me.
Negative is that I probably spend more.

Mines never late

ravenclaworslytherin · 10/05/2025 21:17

I think I may try twice a week now. I hate trying to figure out what I need for an entire week ahead. I usually forget things.
I don't have access to a car unless husband is off work which as he does shift work could be abything between 4 and 11 days, so going to the supermarket for a big shop just isn't an option

Yes this. Means I can get the best value by having 2/3 options. And at the moment Ocado and Waitrose are £40minimum spend. Means I’m not popping into the shop. On my way home from
w a couple of times a week which saves money and time.

sunshineandshowers40 · 10/05/2025 21:23

Thanks this, I'm going to try setting up 2 regular deliveries a week. At the moment I do around 3 a fortnight and top up in between.

mindutopia · 10/05/2025 21:53

I personally only do one a week and then stock up with a few extra things towards the end of the week. I don’t find I have any trouble with food waste. Food definitely doesn’t go to waste in our house! It gets eaten. With a little bit of forethought, we just have fresher food earlier in the week and things that are longer lasting towards the end of the week.

I shop at Tesco. I just did our order for through Thursday dinners (Dh in charge of Friday). Cost me £100 for 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 primary age one. I wouldn’t want to spend another £50 on fresh fruit and veg at the end of the week. One of us can just stop and grab some salad, if needed.

pambeesleyhalpert · 10/05/2025 21:54

k might start doing this. I hate doing a full week shop it takes so long
