I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my kitchen spot. Dd2's been down already to feed the kittens and make herself some toast. The three of them have gone off back upstairs - presumably back to bed.

Dd's off out for a Tesco meal deal picnic with one of her best friends later on. They do it every couple of weeks, so long as the weather's not awful.

I'm off to the market for some fresh fruit and salad & Dd1's coming with me (I did ask dd2 but she wanted to meet her friend!). Since the weather's nice, I think we might have a steady walk into town, and stop off for a drink somewhere we can sit outside 🍸.

Depending what time we get in, I might do some crafting of some sort for a couple of hours. I have A Squash and A Squeeze peg dolls on the go, for a display at work, and a crochet project I need to work out what size to make by measuring myself, so probably one of those.

Then it's leftover Chinese for tea & maybe an hour in the garden with my book after a shower.

What about all of you? 🌞

Morning All.
I did park run this morning. Dp is fixing Dnephew car so is at work for the morning. DS1 has gone with him to get a break from revision @frozendaisy I feel your pain, I can't wait until the exams are over.
Ds2 is on the trampoline. We're heading into town shortly to get ingredients for Apple Crumble he's making at school next week.
We're probably going to light the bbq this afternoon/evening for dinner. Then drinks and a film

Natsku · 10/05/2025 10:48

I was supposed to go watch DS's football matches today but I woke up in the early hours with an upset belly and its not gotten better so I had to stay home Sad
So they've gone and will be gone all day. DD has taken the train to the city to pick up her new glasses and see her friend, I'll have to stay awake until 11 tonight to pick her up from the station when she gets the train back.

I'm going to try and eat something now and watch a couple of episodes of The Good Place, and hope my belly will feel better soon.

gingercat02 · 10/05/2025 10:55

Morning all. Beautiful day here.
We are just about to go to the garden centre for a garden arch, need to be back by 12 for the online food shop.
As soon as that is away, DH and I are going to a local food festival for a mooch round the stalls, some street food, beers and live music.
DS is going to the beach with his friends
It's like summer today 🌞❤️

HelpMeGetThrough · 10/05/2025 11:04

It’s rock n roll here for me this morning. I’ve got a door frame to paint and then need to replace the silicon seal around the bath and bathroom window. Ball valve in the cistern isn’t quite fully closing either, so I’m going to fix that too. Nobody else notices it, but it’s getting to me now.

OH has put some bedding in the wash, so I’ll wrestle that on the washing line later.

OH is out with the youngest to get some final bits and pieces as he’s off to America for 9 weeks soon.

With them out, they won’t hear the swearing from the bathroom. I’m pretty good at using silicone seal, but it’s a job I hate.

DilemmaDelilah · 10/05/2025 11:06

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I was up, breakfasted and dressed by 9am as per my new regime. Still have toothache and a headache which, I think, is caused by the toothache. I'm having a root canal filling on Monday week which, I hope, will sort it.

Mr Dilemma and I are working on the new small spare room/former office and have had several 'discussions' already! Mr Dilemma tends to get frustrated when he can't do things (the way he thinks they should be done) and then gets very cross. He is also EXTREMELY good at being negative, without being able to be positive. So - perhaps I suggest an alternative way of doing something, or a way to make it easier (I'm all about making things easier) and he will immediately tell me all the reasons why it can't be done that way, without coming up with any alternative solutions. A small example, 'I can't screw this in without the screw falling out'. It's a headboard - it's not fixed yet, he is trying to put the screw in with it vertical. I say 'why don't you lay it down flat? Then the screw won't fall out and you will have something to push against?' Response... 'No, that won't work'. There are useful things I could be doing, like touching up some of the paintwork, but Mr Dilemma tells me that doesn't need to be done yet. So it is better for me to be sitting around doing nothing than to be doing something useful. This retirement lark ain't all its cracked up to be! I can only work in the morning as I need a nap in the afternoon, so it's silly for me to waste my productive hours.

We don't have anything planned for this afternoon (see comment about naps) but we are having roast beef this evening and I want to use quite a bit of the fresh veg we had delivered so that will need preparing. Maybe I will do that now.

Oooh! Mr Dilemma has just found out why some of the painting needed to be done before the headboard was in place (as per my helpful suggestion) .. he's not very pleased. I'm definitely going to do the vegetables!

Good morning all. It’s a lovely day here in London. We’ve a rare Saturday without any plans so have decided to schlep over to Battersea Power Station, as we’ve still not been since it opened. Then we’ll stroll along the river to get to the Southbank as there’s a pop-up food place open for a couple of weeks that DP wants to try, and this is our only time to do it. We might go for a late afternoon drink somewhere too, I expect.

We’ll head back home afterwards and probably pick up something very easy for dinner - maybe a Caesar salad or similar - and then a quiet night in. We have this week’s Taskmaster to catch up on, and I also want to finish my book. I have to work tomorrow so will probably try to get an early night.

Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!

Rainbow1235 · 10/05/2025 11:22

squashyhat · 10/05/2025 11:25

Travelling to Twickenham to see Harlequins v Gloucester. I'm currently on a rail replacement bus....🙄

Thislittlekitten · 10/05/2025 11:26

Morning all

We had a lie in today. Been exhausted with work and kids activities this week.

Did get up at 530 to sort animals then dozed until 10. Bliss.

Just back from walking the dog and going to make a cooked breakfast for me and DS.
Everyone else out. Today’s plans are pottering plans. Water garden. Hang up washing. Read more of my new book. DS wants to just sit and watch a film just now. Although it’s hot outside and I feel we should be out he’s been under the weather this week so I think a rest will do us good. I’ve a stressful week coming up too.

When it’s cooler will take the dog out for a longer walk And thinking a chippy tea!

Peridot1 · 10/05/2025 11:43

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I’m currently staying at my sister’s house looking after her two children and dogs as she and her DH have been away for just over a week. They are back tomorrow morning.

Been up for ages and have fed dogs and nephew and tidied kitchen and tried to vacuum hall but filters were blocked so have washed that. Did a towel wash and that in the dryer. Sis annoyingly doesn’t have an outside washing line which has frustrated me all week!

Hoping to go for a walk with my nephew shortly and possibly lunch out. Niece has been at a sleepover so we will probably meet up with her at some stage to bring her home. Then it’s school uniform washing and fish and chips for dinner. Then I will get beaten at Snakes and Ladders again by nephew before he goes to bed and I have a nice glass of wine.

Looking forward to sister and BIL coming back tomorrow!

DilemmaDelilah · 10/05/2025 11:52

@Peridot1 you are obviously a saint! I could have done with one of you when my children were children.

It is a beautiful day here - Mr Dilemma will be working/swearing upstairs for a while yet, no point in asking him what he would like for lunch because he will just say he doesn't know... I have just had a slice of white plastic bread with a couple of thin slices of garlic sausage in it to tide me over, then when he finally comes downstairs I have some leftover tomato pasta with meatballs to finish up while he stomps around trying to decide what he wants.

I have done this evening's vegetables, I think I will sit outside (not) in the sun for a bit. My meds cause sun sensitivity so I can't actually sit in the sun.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 10/05/2025 11:57

Good morning (just) Lucysmam and others. I woke early and had the bed stripped and the sheets etc in the washing machine then hanging out by eight. Two coffees and a slice of toast set me up. Then I emptied and loaded the dishwasher. After that, I drove to Stirling to meet up with ds. We walked to the café in the park near his house, then walked through the park which was busy with people walking dogs, children playing and a ladies football match. A slow walk through the posh part of Stirling where he lives then I drove home via Aldi as I needed bread and milk.
Later today I have a delivery from Next of new curtains for the living room. The ones that are up, are dark rust colour which are cosy in winter. I've ordered buttermilk colour ones for summer. I'll iron what's on the line and remake the bed. Have a good day all

maddiemookins16mum · 10/05/2025 12:03

We had a cooked breakfast (a bit of a treat on a Saturday for us), I did a tidy through and DH went to get two new tyres on my car. We’ve done some gardening and are about to get showered and changed and go visit my BIL for tea and cake and will chill in his garden for a bit. Spaghetti Bolognaise for tea around 5pm and then we’re off to a Quiz Night at 7.30pm.

Deathraystare · 10/05/2025 12:07

Working this afternoon. Dragged my hefty bag to the launderette this morning. Got into work and really wanted to lie down and sip a cocktail but hey ho! At least the sun is shining!

DinoLil · 10/05/2025 12:17

Afternoon!
Hope you're all okay?
I'm dealing with a lot. I have six friends with cancer, three went in for surgery on the same day this week. Also father and my friend whose grandson has leukaemia.
I've had another friend with some problems who needed a hand on the phone this morning, and another friend who is dealing with stuff and needed to chat. Oh and another friend who's wife probably has dementia and he's struggling to cope.
I'm feeling a bit drained.
There's a free festival on today, which I can hear because my doors and windows are open.
I'll take doggo out for a walk this evening when it's cooled down a bit.
Other than that, I'll do some crafting. The local charity lady is coming this week to pick up about 200 cards I've made. I'll also eat crisps, order from Uber Eats and sit in the garden.
Thanks for letting me vent! Enjoy your weekend!

Moier · 10/05/2025 12:25

Good morning.
Hospital appointment this afternoon.
Sister taking me ( eyes.. so will be sore.. must remember my sunglasses).
Going to Matalan for new suitcase ( hopefully in stock). Fed up of hard shell breaking .. IT ones.. going for a fabric one .
Then a few bits and euros.. Cyprus break next week.
Might pop into Acupuncturist and see if l can get a top up for my hip or book an appointment.
It's excruciating brutally painful.
I am having more fluoroscopy injections .. but could only get in after my hols.
Tomorrow will be a drive out to The Dale's.. stopping in a country pub for lunch.( Hate staying in on Sundays).
Have a great weekend everyone.

mamaduckbone · 10/05/2025 12:37

A bit late for good morning but happy Saturday @lucysmam and all.
I went for a run and a coffee with my friend first thing, breakfast in the garden with Dh then we've been into town to do some bits.
This afternoon I need to make a carrot cake for a friend's 50th (it's the only cake he likes) then we're round at theirs later for birthday drinks and food.
Ds2 is revising for a big week of 6 exams including English and maths - good luck to anyone else with dc in the thick of GCSEs.

Chelsea26 · 10/05/2025 13:26

Afternoon all! What a lovely day!

I’ve been up since 7:20 as I had my nieces and nephews staying last night as both my brothers were at a party.

When DP and the older kids got up we had bacon, egg, beans and cheesy hash browns for breakfast in the garden.

Now DP has gone to play cricket, DS1 has gone to play gold, my brothers have come to pick up their kids and so it’s just me and DS2 left. He’s in the shower and I’ll go in after him. He was going to meet his friends in the park but he is thinking of bailing as he slept on the floor last night and is tired - bless him!

The boys are off to their dads later so I’ll probably wander down the Cricket Club to meet DP and drink wine in the late spring sun!

Peridot1 · 10/05/2025 15:35

@DilemmaDelilah - I know! To be honest the children are almost 8 and almost 16 so not too difficult to look after. Doing the school run again has been odd though as haven’t had to do that for about 6 years!

@DinoLil - that is a lot. Hugs. I’m not surprised you feel drained. I have a few friends going through various issues too and a sister and it’s scary and worrying and draining.

lucysmam · 10/05/2025 15:56

@DinoLil I'd be drained too! I hope you get some time in to relax a bit too!

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie thank you! They look tasty & quick. I'll try them one evening this week.

Well...I decided, on a whim, to pick up a Bleach London semi-permanent PINK hair dye on our way back for the bus. It reckons it's for blondes and brunettes 🤔. I'll either have pink sort of curls (post chemo regrowth), or look like a fool! We'll see later on 🤷‍♀️

Morning all,
One to my second gallon of coffee already, school shirts drying and bleaching in the sunshine.

Just rousing eldest and then its:
revision, revision, revision, revision
food
revision revision
bicker over revision
revision
food
snacks
yes you can have a break
revision

losing the will to live
think "I reckon I could sit GCSE Comp Science at this rate"

and I might as well just copy and paste this for tomorrow's post, and next weekend!

I feel your pain!

Ds2 meandered downstairs at about 1pm
and still hadn't made a start, then announced he's going to the gym at 5.30 but will do more when he gets back.

I'm taking the 'ok darling, whatever you think' approach at this point.

To be fair, when he gets going he's quite focused but I'm doing a lot of biting my tongue just now as he just gets stroppy if I interfere.

DilemmaDelilah · 10/05/2025 16:44

@lucysmam Oooh pink! Nice. I'm grey so I decided to go purple using the purple shampoo stuff. One of the nurses on the cancer day case unit had purple hair and I rather liked it.

lucysmam · 10/05/2025 16:47

Did it dye ok @DilemmaDelilah ? I'm a bit dubious as to whether it'll come out alright but it can't look any worse than it already does & it's semi permanent so will wash out.

Has Mr Dilemma recovered from his grump about you suggesting certain areas would benefit from painting first?

OP posts:
DilemmaDelilah · 10/05/2025 16:49

@frozendaisy I had an XH who was studying for horticultural exams so I was helping him. I reckon I could have got a better grade than him by the time he took those blooming exams! Maybe you should enter for the next round of GCSE Comp Science exams!
