Wearing this shade to a wedding?

Attending a wedding in a couple of weeks and I've fallen in love with a powder blue dress. However it's rather pale, I'm worried about the whole 'not wearing white / similar to a wedding' rule..

I thought I could accessorise with a coloured bag to help?

What do you all think? Can I wear it?

It looks powdery blue to me OP, as long as bridesmaids aren’t in that colour I’d wear it!

CombatBarbie · 08/05/2025 20:02

Def check the bridesmaid/table decoration colour first.

Asking the question.

To be fair, the invite usually has the colour on it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 08/05/2025 20:38

One of my fave colours. Would defo wear it.

I always thought that. However since wearing same dress to two weddings (not what I thought was a type bridesmaid colour) and matching the bridesmaids both times, I’m starting to think that doesn’t work any more

SpookyMcTaggart · 08/05/2025 20:57

It's obviously blue, not white or cream, so it's fine to wear. It looks nice!

Snickersnack1 · 08/05/2025 21:02

Can you post a picture of the whole dress?
From the little clip you’ve put, it sort of looks like there is a train? Is it wedding-dress-y in style?
While it is blue, colour intensity can vary across screens and in harsh daylight it might almost look white. If it’s crossed your mind that it might be unsuitable, and you have to ask, trust your instinct and proceed with caution.

LeavesTrees · 08/05/2025 21:04

I think we need to see the whole dress, it’s hard to tell really from the little bit we can see.

You can only see the front of the dress, how can you see if it has a train? There is a ruffle at the front.

OP, I think it’s a perfectly acceptable colour. A bridesmaid dress could be any colour! I’ve never asked the couple what colour the bridesmaids are wearing as often sometimes you’re not that close. It’s usually pretty obvious who the bride and bridesmaids are, even if other guests are wearing a similar colour.

Snickersnack1 · 08/05/2025 21:12

@Atarin Well this is strange, I wonder if there’s an optical illusion going on here, or if we’re seeing different parts of the picture?

What I can see looks like the hip/ thigh portion of a form-fitting dress, with a sort of ruffle attached to the side, a bit like a gathered train, and the left hand hanging down to the side, possibly holding the ruffle / train.

monktasmic · 08/05/2025 21:17

Agree with snicker snack - that could be so pale as to be bridal, add on a train (I think I can see a train) … can we see more of it?

Edited

Maybe it’s just a discrepancy on the definition of a train. I thought it was only at the back of a dress that trails behind the wearer. I’ve never seen one on the side!

Initially I thought the pleat part was on her stomach!

Bountychocolate · 08/05/2025 22:33

It's not a train - it's got a flamenco-style frill on the front! That's the best I can describe it 😂

So its a white dress with a blue bit?

Can I ask what exactly you mean??? I've never heard this before.

Does the invite say ' Our colour theme is pink and our bridesmaids will be wearing dusky pink rose coloured dresses'?
OR you are guessing the colour from the colours on the invite
OR some other reason you can pick the colour from the invite??? 🤔

minnienono · 08/05/2025 22:43

@CombatBarbie

i married last year and i can assure you i didn’t put a colour theme on the invites - they were simply the template I liked on Canva .

unless you are a crazy bridezilla you wont care anyway, if you wanted to wear i could not have cared less but as it was autumn nobody chose pale colours

When I got married the fashion was to use the wedding colour on the stationery. It doesn’t seem to be the fashion any more, though

My invitations had organza in the colour of my bridesmaid dresses/ colour scheme, almost like a seal type thing. It was a long time ago, I’m not sure it’s a thing as much anymore but in was quite common about twenty years ago.
OP the dress colour is gorgeous and not remotely white so totally appropriate.

JDM625 · 08/05/2025 23:30

@123ZYX @Chocolate85 Thank you for explaining using the colour theme on the invites as a clue to what the BM's colour might be.

Ideally, I would have done similar and had a much more co-ordinated colour theme. Due to multiple reasons, I ended up with an emerald green ribbon on the invites, a grey/silver matron of honour dress, pink/green/white bouquets and black/white favours. 😬

Eggybreadwithnuts · 08/05/2025 23:31

Its gorgeous, wear it 100%

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 08/05/2025 23:37

Yes wear it it’s blue not white. I’ve been to weddings where people have turned up in near identical dresses to the bridesmaids does this really matter at all unless you are going to hang around them or try and jump into the photos with them? no not at all :) x

mathanxiety · 09/05/2025 00:03

I'd wear it with footwear and accessories including headwear that made it clear you weren't going bridal. Maybe fuchsia, purple, gold...

ByeByeByeee · 09/05/2025 00:05

Looks fine to me tbh. But my theory is that if you have to ask, you probably aren't going to feel 100% comfortable in it. But that's something only you can say

If I were the bride I wouldn't care though if that's what you're asking
