Was I mean with seller?

I have been looking for the perfect pair of ankle boots for ages. Mine which I loved, were completely ruined at a festival back in June, almost a year ago.

Found some for sale in my size, second hand but hardly worn.

They're my usual size. I occasionally have to get a smaller size depending on the fit. I have a pair of boots in this smaller size but most are this size, and I have a pair of heels in a smaller size too-but I have a lot of shoes/boots and most are the same size as the ones I ordered.

Got them and they're too small. They have my correct size marked on them and they're perfect otherwise. Seller said they don't accept returns unless they're at fault and can I stuff them with something to stretch them, or only wear them with tights or pop socks...

I argued that they should haev been advertised as a 'small fit', in their description.

Genuinely what do you think?

Oh give over ! I don’t live in the uk and my mil takes all my stuff back with her to sell on vinted when she’s here. She isn’t the same size as me at all she wouldn’t have a clue if anything is small or big she just goes by the label.

That would be perfectly valid, if it had happened in this case.
But it hadn't.

Probably better to buy from a shop and then you can take them back

Sell them

But they don’t have your feet.

I can try on a dozen pairs of boots of the same size, and they will range from too small to too big. Mine are a weird shape. I have no idea which of them are the “right” size.

This.

The seller may have size x feet and find that they fitted her perfectly but they don't fit you bcause your feet are a different shape. It doesn't mean the sizing is wrong and as they were as advertised, you have no reason to send it back. Sell them on.

Paganpentacle · 07/05/2025 11:31

If they have the correct size marked on them... how is the seller at fault?

SalfordQuays · 07/05/2025 11:35

The thing is OP, you've said yourself that you sometimes have to get a smaller size. So if the seller had said "these are labelled a size X, but are on the small side", you'd probably still have risked buying them wouldn't you? So it's always going to be a bit of a gamble.

I mentioned that I size down sometimes, to illustrate that these boots turn up small. I am not a larger size for the size I usually am and that's why they don't fit, Rather It's the other way around.

I know but you seem to think that because say these boots in a size 4 are too small on you they’ll also be too small on the seller.

I think expecting a seller of a 2nd hand item to take refunds because it doesn’t fit the buyer isn’t massively fair. It’s the risk you take buying 2nd hand - the bottom of my wardrobe is full of jeans I’ve ordered from Vinted that don’t fit (I now pop to the shop and try a pair on first if I see a bargain on Vinted!)

violetsorrengail · 07/05/2025 11:47

You can't really do that as a seller on Vinted, as if you say they come up small and then so own buys them and they're too big, you'll get the blame for giving your opinion. Best just to list them at the size they are and it's for the buyer to take the rest, which is always the case buying shoes online anyway!

MissyPants · 07/05/2025 13:00

If you would have messaged me as a seller (I'm on vinted and eBay) asking about true to size as sometimes boots don't fit etc, then at this interaction I would have instantly blocked you. I would have done this as you are showing to me that you are a nightmare buyer.
Sellers can't help if sometimes boots fit you and sometimes they don't, that's your personal issue.
FYI sellers aren't always truthful either, I buy some of my items from charity shops including shoes etc to sell on, but I don't tell people this.
Online shoe shopping clearly isn't for you, so stop blaming sellers.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 07/05/2025 13:40

The seller stated the correct size which was on the shoes!! Of course she won’t accept a return. Resell( stating they’re a small size) or sell on FB/ eBay

So me as a seller needs to state that they're small for their size but the original seller was fine not to? I would do though in their shoes (see what I did there)...

This is the kind of buyer that doesn’t understand Vinted/Ebay. The shoes are obviously not your size if they don’t fit you. Very unreasonable to expect a return. Sell on like we all have to if this happens.

DefinitelyMaybe92 · 07/05/2025 13:55

Did you buy off Vinted or such like? If so, they’re not a store or a professional seller. They’re just your ordinary person who has advertised them as X size to fit their X size feet. They may personally have a “small”/slender variation of that size, but they wouldn’t necessarily know that themselves. What would they have to compare to/benchmark against? YABU.

Mooselooseinmyhoose · 07/05/2025 09:28

Sorry I think you're being unreasonable. How is seller to know they're a small fit? They have x size feet, the shoes say x size. How are they meant to know it's a small x or a normal x? How much did you pay? I think it's annoying but one of those things. Sell them on vinted.

Agreed. You take a chance with private sellers that it doesn't fit. Just resell.

Totally agree with this. You can’t win either way because it can be quite subjective and the seller has nothing quantitative to base “small for size”, “large for size” etc on, but their own personal use… which, again, is subjective.

80smonster · 07/05/2025 14:14

Totally unreasonable. Use these, they work very quickly: amzn.eu/d/0ERQVZ8

Mylegishangingoff · 07/05/2025 14:15

You take your chances when buying off vinted and the like really. I bought a pair of running shoes off vinted(unworn) recently and I did the research. Googled the shoes and found out that I need to go half a size up in those particular ones. Its the buyers responsibility as far as I'm concerned.
