Was I mean with seller?

I have been looking for the perfect pair of ankle boots for ages. Mine which I loved, were completely ruined at a festival back in June, almost a year ago.

Found some for sale in my size, second hand but hardly worn.

They're my usual size. I occasionally have to get a smaller size depending on the fit. I have a pair of boots in this smaller size but most are this size, and I have a pair of heels in a smaller size too-but I have a lot of shoes/boots and most are the same size as the ones I ordered.

Got them and they're too small. They have my correct size marked on them and they're perfect otherwise. Seller said they don't accept returns unless they're at fault and can I stuff them with something to stretch them, or only wear them with tights or pop socks...

I argued that they should haev been advertised as a 'small fit', in their description.

Genuinely what do you think?

I am a size 7 not all size 7 shoes fit me! It depends on the style and brand, I can try on 3 pairs of shoes in one shop and one will be too wide, another pinch toes and the other fit fine. You're being ridiculous. The seller might also be the same shoe size as you but have different shaped feet so they fit her fine how on earth is she meant to know if they'll fit you? You've already said you have to get different sizes in some shoes which perfectly illustrates the point

And some people will come up with any excuse to avoid taking responsibility for their own error. The OP also says “I occasionally have to get a smaller size depending on the fit.” So knows full well some brands fit differently.

I do, which is why if I had to sell my usual size due to being too large, I would have stated the reason why and said 'quite a large fit' or similar.

Impostersyndicate · 07/05/2025 09:56

What?

You want to return them despite being exactly as described because your feet are too big for them?

No. Don't be so ridiculous.

I think you’re being VERY unreasonable and I hope you’re not thinking of leaving the seller anything but positive feedback. It’s not her fault if the boots are a smaller fit that you would have expected - just sell them on Vinted as others have suggested. Exactly the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago - I bought a pair of shoes in my normal size and was disappointed to find they were a bit too small when they arrived. I didn’t think to whinge to the seller that she should have mentioned they were a ‘small fit’ but left her 5* feedback because the shoes were just as described, well packed, and were posted the day I bought them. I’ve now sold them again on Vinted and got my money back.

I accept fully the 'being unreasonable' however I don't agree wiht 'how would the seller know' comments.

...Because they have feet, and have worn them?

But people's feet are different shapes.
I have wide feet so often have to buy up a size for width and they are therefore a bit long.
It wouldn't occur to me to notice that a pair of shoes was "a bit less long than usual". I would just advertise them as the size they were.

I know, I guess I meant I'd have been clearer if that were me and I were selling some shoes in my usual size, I'd have stated 'selling as don't fit me, too small despite being my usual size, or 'quite a large fit for X size'.

I accept I am BU by the way.

Just responding to individual comments.

If you want to be able to return things that don't fit, buy them from a shop.

Wot? They might be too large for you they might not be too large for me. That’s the point. I don’t need to know why you’re selling them, I just need to know if that size, in that brand, fits me. And if I don’t know, I do my research by checking the brand website. And if I can’t find that information out then I take a punt and accept the consequences if it doesn’t work out.

They did say the reason for sale, which is quite specific.

I am really trying to not buy new this year. It was one of my resolutions (not that I really have them but...) to try to not be so much of a 'consumer' if you will.

This happened to me with my first ever eBay purchase. A couple of weeks ago!

A pair of designer boots. Perfect in every way but too small! I'm always that size in every other shoe so I just had to keep them.

I'm using a shoe stretcher on them and praying they're budge a bit..I can get them on but hardly walk but it seems like there getting a tiny bit looser.

So yeah, I think the seller is right in that if it's marked your size, then they can't take a return.
I hope you can either stretch them or sell them. Disappointing but clearly it happens!

These are an expensive brand that I hadn't heard of before.

I find some designer clothes/shoes come up quite large! One pair of heels I have is in the smaller size. And I have a pair of jeans in a smaller size too from a well-known designer.

But they don’t have your feet.

I can try on a dozen pairs of boots of the same size, and they will range from too small to too big. Mine are a weird shape. I have no idea which of them are the “right” size.

It's certainly a shame, and sizes do vary. Have you tried a shoe stretcher?

I guess the only thing where the seller could be at fault is if it was a US shoe in US sizing? Presuming you're in the UK.

You have to leave stretcher in there for ages, like more than a week.

Digdongdoo · 07/05/2025 10:19

So you're annoyed because you bought shoes and they were the size you ordered?
Just sell them on and buy a bigger pair...

purplecorkheart · 07/05/2025 10:22

You are unresonable. I am a half size in my shoes but most shoes don't do half fit so I have to go up half a size. These shoes seem big to me as I am not actually the shoe size so I would not know if the shoes fit big or small to someone who is the size it says on the shoes

How on earth would they know what size your feet are in relation to their feet? 😂😂😂

So you’re well aware that some brands do not conform to their stated size - coming up either bigger or smaller - and that you don’t know/didn’t check the brand sizing, but you still think it’s the sellers problem?
This is one of the reasons why selling on eBay has become such a ball ache in recent times.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 07/05/2025 10:53

Noodge · 07/05/2025 09:51

Maybe-but if so the seller wasn't truthful, they said they were selling them for a specific reason (related to their feet, albeit not because they were too small)!

Or maybe they fit them fine? Just because you sometimes size down, doesn’t mean someone else with the same size feet has to.

Flopsythebunny · 07/05/2025 10:57

You are being very unreasonable. How the fuck was the seller to know that they were a small sizing for you? They had the correct size on them, so either do as the seller suggested or sell them on. You aren't buying from new from a fucking shop woman!

😂I obviously knew I fucking wasn't fucking buying from a fucking shop nor did I fucking expect the fucking seller to fucking know anything about my fucking feet. I just fucking thought that if the fucking seller is the same fucking size as me, they may have fucking noticed that the fucking boots were a smaller fucking fit than other fucking ones they had in the fucking same size.

(I am joking, by the way, I found this post amusing, I am not trying to seriously retaliate)!

OP posts:
LimeLime · 07/05/2025 11:07

You are being completely unreasonable, you received the boots in the condition and size stated and if that doesn't fit your feet then that's your bad luck.

When I buy something that turns out not to fit, I shrug it off and sell it on myself to recoup some of my loss.

But on eBay the buyer is king and as a seller it really pisses me off when a buyer launches a refund request with the reason that the item was grossly misdescribed when they get exactly what the listing shows and I have to provide postage for them to return the item as well as refund the original payment in full, so I'm down £4 and have to relist the item which never returns in quite as good condition as it was sent. I'm not Marks and Spencer with an unbeatable refund policy I'm just a private seller doing it for pin money.

Don't be that buyer!

I mentioned that I size down sometimes, to illustrate that these boots turn up small. I am not a larger size for the size I usually am and that's why they don't fit, Rather It's the other way around.

EndlesslyDecluttering · 07/05/2025 11:09

This happened to me, my first ever sale, the buyer put in a complaint because an item was too big and I had listed the size correctly with a photo of the label. To justify it they had found a tiny mark, I had listed it as good but worn a few times but hadn't spotted the mark. I took it back, but it was all a waste of time and effort. Pretty unreasonable IMO.

Can you set a blanket no returns apart from if at fault setting? I accepted that time that I should have found and shown the mark (you'd have needed a magnifying glass, honestly) but it was annoying.

hexagongoldbox · 07/05/2025 11:13

Oh give over ! I don’t live in the uk and my mil takes all my stuff back with her to sell on vinted when she’s here. She isn’t the same size as me at all she wouldn’t have a clue if anything is small or big she just goes by the label.
